She came highly recommended, and she is very respected by other staff at the foundation. Dr. Smith is a general practitioner, who can advise you on a myriad of ailments. She has a good "bedside" manner, and is easy to talk to about your health issues. She has quite a number of patients as she is one of the most popular physicians, and the staff in her office is kind and helpful. And because I prefer a female primary care physician it works.

Great America can be a fun place to visit, but rememeber it is a theme park, and it has all the issues that one associates with such places -- over-priced amenities, huge crowds, long lines, and a big-ticket admission. That said, if you enjoy theme parks then you'll have a good time. It has some good rides, and there are also live performances and other events that take place at the park. It's conveniently located on the peninsula, and easily accessible to most (You can even take public transit.) If you can get past the cost, you can have fun. (Try buying a multi-use pass at a discount if you plan to go more than once in the season.)

Stanfordians and area residents don't have to travel all the way to San Francisco to visit a world-class museum, there's one right in their proverbial backyard. The recently expanded and renovated Iris and B Gerald Cantor Center for the Visual Arts, which features one of the best Rodin collections outside of his studio in Paris. It has 24 galleries plus sculpture gardens, terraces, and a lovely courtyard that is perfect for picnics. There is a museum shop/bookstore and a café on the premises. Admission is free, and the museum puts on many programs geared toward educating youth.

Hopefully the new high-traffic location will benefit this great bike shop. (I always thought that other building, a converted bank, was rather strange.) Bikes, Bikes, Bikes! If you are into bicycling - whether mountain, street, or other – this will be your kind of shop. It has everything – all the brands you recognize, and probably some you don’t. Are you a little rusty on your bike knowledge? Ask away, the staff is knowledgeable and professional.

One of my favorites museums, not only for its stunning location right on the San Francisco Bay that give one spectacular views, but also for it’s wonderful collection, and impressive space that caters to traveling exhibits of world renown. Founded and championed by a art patron family, it is something to behold, and quite a spot for tourists and locals alike. It can be reached via public transit (Muni).

Quite a fun restaurant with a decent selection of favorites, and a friendly staff. There are two locations that I know of in the area, this one, a standard on El Camino Way in Palo Alto, and a newer locale in downtown Los Altos. Menus are the same at both. Prices are moderate (Lunch prices are slightly cheaper.) Not many vegetarian selections as everything seems to be people with chicken, fish or beef, but the complimentary chips and salsa are generally delivered to your table piping hot and fresh. Family-Friendly.

The store itself isn’t bad, and it has a decent selection for it’s modest size, but I wouldn’t advise your trying to trade or sell books here, if you’re in the market for such a thing. The book buyer that I dealt with consistently offered very under-market amounts for items that I knew would be sold for four or five times as much. And this same thing has happened to several other people I know who frequently buy, sell, and trade books. So shop there if you must, but don’t take books there to sell or trade for store credit. Caveat emptor!

It is an eclectic little “foreign-language” store that has an interesting mix of books and videos, plus strange little knick-knacks. It's in a weird little store front that you might miss if you didn't know to look for it. It’s a nice to place to browse, or at least peep into the windows. Your might find some interesting items on sale – they recently had a great sale on videos for $1.

With a name like this, you know this is a bookish person’s book-place. This is the first used bookstore I found when I moved to this area, it’s within walking distance of Stanford campus, and close to several public transit stops (VTA, Marguerite, and Caltrain). Although dimly lit in areas, it is very densely packed, and full to the brim with book on all sorts of subjects, although the store is particularly strong in the area of Science Fiction. The owners both know book very well, and are fair in the amounts offered for buying or selling. A must visit for any bibliophile!

Located in downtown Palo Alto on University Ave, the Med/Tech store as it’s called by those in the know is specifically geared toward Medical and Technical books. This store carries a small amount in other general subject areas, but its purpose is to provide the tools and study aids needed by the Stanford, Medical School and Hospitals. If you need a stethoscope, this is the place to go.
