A private art gallery in Los Altos that is available for viewing by appointment, this is a gem waiting for you to discover it. The owners are nothing short of spectacular! One of the owners is an expert in the art of the Yoruba, and gives classes and lectures, in addition to being an artist in her own right. The gallery has some great pieces of certified-authentic African art. They also sell and showcase the signature line painting of one of the owners. You are guaranteed to get quality service here.

This is the sports apparel store on Stanford campus, appropriately situated right next to the athletics department running track, Angel Field (thus the name) and other campus athletic facilities. It’s not that big, but it carries a good selection of Stanford-branded sports stuff, including hats, shirts, and shorts. If you want something that says Stanford sports (whatever the variety) start here first. You may also run into student-athletes here as it is right near all the athletic facilities, and carries gear they use. Not a bad selection, but it can be pricey!

What it lacks for in pricing (everything is over-priced as with most convenience stores) it makes up for in location. It carries all the little things you didn’t realize you needed until you’re trapped on campus with no way to go to a real store. But that’s how convenience stores get you, they know you’re a captive, trapped audience. The manager is great, and although the staff rotates with the season (it employs students) it’s a neat little shop. Open late.

Knitting is so in nowadays. Everybody’s doing it, including every wannabe celebrity. But that doesn’t change the fact that knitting is cool and very practical. (I love cable-knit sweaters, and hand made cable-knit sweater cost hundreds of dollars each. So make your own like I plan to!) This great shop located right in downtown Menlo Park is a knitter’s haven. Buy some yarn and sit down and knit in the store. There are round tables set-up just for this purpose. The shops also provides expertise in the form of classes and helpful sales associates. Learn to knit is a warm friendly environment and make new friends while you pearl!

This is a University-owned facility under the direction and supervision of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. Although it’s a private course open only to members and their guests, the putting greens, the Stanford Grill Restaurarnt, and the pro shop are open to the general public. If you live for golf, you’ve got to visit this course at least once. It’s the home course for the Stanford Cardinal Golf team, but also play host to numerous charity tournaments, and other events that have a public audience. Schedule a tour at the very least, or signup to take a golf class through the university and actually get to “play the field.”

Yes, I shop here but I don't have to like it. The Stanford Shopping Center has little character beyond the advert that it has most of the upscale stores under it's roof. It got rid of all the store with any independence like Woolworth's, etc, and replaced 'em all with newer and bigger iterations of the big consumer machine. It you enjoy getting dressed up in designer duds just to go shopping, you could probably make friends here. There are still a few interesting stores, and some nice markets, cafés, and a restaurant of two. The bookstore , and music store are also nice. I will give them credit they put on a great number of programs and charity events, many aimed at helping kids.

On Stanford University campus, this restaurant (formerly El Pollo Rey) is now a privately owned spin-off restaurant thatwas part of the Una Mas!/Pollo Rey chain. It's great place to go if you want a variety of food (it has American, Mexican, and Asian cuisines). It’s reasonably price, and so is a favorite of both staff and students. The portions are generous, and it’s pretty tasty for fast-food. It’s also setup as a sports bar of sorts. There are televisions in the eating areas, so many students come here to watch games and grab a bite.

This little shop has seemingly been around for ever and with the same person running it! It always seems to have some beautiful blooms sitting out front, and I’m sure you’ve seen it if you’ve driven down El Camino Real in Palo Alto. It’s sort of a brown hut, and has roll down door that are pulled open to showcase the flowers. A wonderful neighborhood shop that is popular with the locals. Order, buy and send flowers locally, save money and help your community!

Another upscale supermarket with three locations on the peninsula, it is family-owned. They have a great bakery department and dairy section. The place is full of high-end items, specialty items and imports. And the prices bear this out. It’s a fun store to shop in but I wouldn’t want it to be my only avenue of grocery. It’s a great place for spot shopping, if you’re in the market for something special. It’s known for being in affluent markets, so less expensive items can be found elsewhere. Draeger's bills itself as "the world's premier resource for the finest international foods, wines, gift baskets, cookware, and cooking & wine classes."
