The store has a nice setup and feel, although it’s not as big as some other smoke shops in the area. They carry a variety of products from the high end to the “poor man’s smoke.” They also have the latest smoke “club” magazines (and have been known to clear out the inventory by putting extra copies of back issues out as freebies for the passerby). You can also get humidors, lighters, and all the necessary accoutrements here, too. Wander by in the early evening and you may see a few folks lounging in the comfortable chairs puffing on cigars and chatting. It’s that kind of place.

This shop is a women’s home and wardrobe center that is in newly expanded environs. It carries clothing and furnishings in an Italianate-style that almost borders on the cheesy (my opinion). If you can’t make it to Italy then this might be a substitute. The store has an interesting array of items – vanities, trinkets, jewelry, furnishings, and women’s apparel. It’s not to my personal taste, but this doesn’t mean that the offerings have no place in someone else’s wardrobe. It’s in a good location for foot-traffic at least.

Shadzz is a cool card, gift, and trinket shop right in downtown Redwood City. It carries novelty items (like those Italian charm bracelets that were all the rage a while ago), as well as the more run of the mill card and balloon offerings. It you need a gift for a special occasion, or just because, then this is a good store to find it. The shelf a jammed-pecked with items that are sure to fit the bill – stuffed animals, trinkets, ceramics, etal.

The shop actually occupies two co-joined store spaces on Main Street in downtown Redwood City. It is packed to the brim with all sorts of random things that possibly have some value or interest. If you don’t mind searching, wandering, browsing, and picking through dust then you may find something you didn’t even know you needed. The shop has been here a long time, and it’s obvious if only by the sheer volume of stuff packed into the space. If you can find your way in through the maze, you might stay a while.

The consignment industry seems to be undergoing a reinvigoration of sorts, thanks in part to the flourishing of online auctions. Case in point, this store just recently opened in downtown Redwood City. It’s a moderate-sized store (this space was formerly a local dollar store) that has a teeming hodge-podge of items. Let’s hope this business fairs better than the previous tenants. The shop window display feature all sorts of items from the mundane (couches, and end tables) to the fabulous (interesting knick-knacks). This is just antiques but a smattering of everyday furniture and household items, clothing and such. Some good deals to be had!

The store/hotspot seems a bit underdeveloped – maybe barebones is a better description (It is called a pit after all). That said, if you’re into PC Gaming, surfing the net, ice cream and candy, then this may be your pit. It depends on how you like your entertainment – billed as a one-stop game shop the locale features hi-speed internet ($10 for 4 hours), pop, candy, ice cream, and the latest PC games for your pleasure. It also sells game tees and other game label/brand items. It’s a nice thought, but as everyone seems to have internet at home it may not be the height of “fashion.” But as a group experience with a couple of friends, it might be fun.

Scout’s House is a full-service rehabilitation center for animals. When animals have problems due to age, injury, or illness, it is sometimes necessary for hem to undergo rehabilitation. The center helps animals to cope with lots of issues like arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, traumatic injuries, obesity and weight control, and even sports conditioning. The center has facilities for Pet Day Care, and also 24/7 hospitalization, with state-of-the-art equipment throughout. Physical therapy for pets speeds up rehabilitation. No wonder the center’s motto could well be “we’re here to heal!” Show your pet some love!

I've always been fascinated with hand-crafts, whether sewing, quilting, stitching, or else. I found this store while wandering in Menlo Park one day. It’s got a wonderful space where a person can come in and not only pick up all the items need for a particular craftwork, but also work on the project in-store (at a stitch-in). There always seem to be a few people inside doing needlepoint or some such. They also offer classes, and host theme-specific craft shows and displays. It’s a wonderful place to go if you like to make things with your hands.

This is a family business. It handles a little bit of everything – while the location houses an eclectic mix of antiques, collectibles, and odd items, it also functions as a home-wares consignment shop, and a drop-off location for selling items on eBay (this seems to be a value-added service that most consignment=type organizations offer these days). The business employs certified estate appraisers, and even features live internet auctions, as well as live auctions on-site. They sell everything including the well-appointed antique kitchen sink! A great place to stop-in and browse, but don’t trip into any of the myriad fountains lining the outdoors yard space.

It’s known for its custom framing operation (it started as a frame shop), but it also has the distinction of being the largest art gallery in Los Altos (yes, Los Altos is fairly small, but choice). ZYT Gallerie does have top-notch framers, and it also hosts some very interesting art shows. If you’d rather not bother with a custom-made frame, you can also purchase nifty do-it-yourself frame kits. The Gallerie also sells a variety of artwork that ranges from the inexpensive to the upper end. But once you’ve got your choice selected, you can get the piece framed just as you like it all in one stop. (The 30 years is the gallery anniversary, the frame shop has existed longer.)
