We decided to come here after hearing about the bar's country/western bent, because wehad some new material of that sort we wanted to try. Sure enough, the crowd was older and scragglier, but the house band was nice enough. It seemed friendly to the tried & true patrons -- they were steaming up hot dogs the night of the Super Bowl. I'd catch it for one of their country open mic nights (or any other open mic), but just to go there to grab a beer, you might feel a little out of the loop.

Come here for bowling and beer. There was a time when a third "B"could be added to the Fireside's attractions -- "bands," but after the bowling alley's hiatus, there's been a bit of a struggle in reclaiming its status as a venue. I only know it as a place where the bowlers get busy. The alley is laid-back and wide open, where the funky old shoes can fly off the shelves. Great for a friendly, no-frills, neighborhood game.

Byron's -- home of the Dogzilla. I really enjoyed the look of this place when we rolled up on it, all red, black and grey -- didn't look like a place to get a dog as much as an auto repairshop or something. The inside layout has hardly changed from its starting days in 1975, so you can get a slice of nostalgia with your greasy spoon fare. The dogs are done up like salads -- the pies are loaded with cheese & pepperoni. And no mere bread roll can hold in the Italian beef. Stop in if you're passing by -- good, cheap grub in a quirky setting.

The name is no misnomer. Winding interior dining space, and right downtown by the big ugly red Lego building. A definite touch of class. Assorted breads & crackers before you eat. Exotic menu offerings, such as a Martini Salad with vermouth dressing. While the menu items were a bit more expensive than what I was looking for, (though likely worth it), I got an appetizer -- a literal bucket of ribs & fries. As I'm not experienced as I'd like to be in the field, I'm giving this a very tentative Best Ribs in Chicago. I know I haven't tried them all, but these were just awesome. Classy all around; I can't wait to return and explore the rest of the menu.

Busy downtown hole in the wall -- one of the "filecard lunch joints" along Jackson west of State. About the only place around my school I can go for a real burrito -- points on that alone. Don't expect anything terribly exotic here -- just great standbys for fairly cheap. What they don't have in menu they make up for in atmosphere -- terra cotta colored walls, fancy custom signs, and constant dance music. Friendly service -- order at the counter and pick it up, my favorite way to eat. Could use some more operational hours.

This is probably another place that you'll probably end up attending, just because they have your favorite band. Just try to bypass everything and go straight to the concert floor.

A hostile takeover of your high-school gym. It's standing-room only on the hardwood floor, which stretches across the second floor. Ample stage space leaves plenty of freedom for bands. The acoustics, like your high school gym, are a bit boomy.
The standing aside, seeing a show here can make you a bit weary. Logan Square Auditorium is without a face -- there's no marquee or information desk, just a haphazard crew whose members seem to take on all duties. I'm guessing it's because of this that the shows tend to start late.
The information you do get is printed up on tiny cards, just a massive list of future acts. The LSA does get points here for curatorial skill, as some really rare acts play here.
You'll probably end up seeing a show here because nobody else has booked them. But it's very possible to enjoy your show in this space.

I went here for an all-ages show, relegating me to the back room separate from the door. At the rear was a good-sized stage for the room. Right of the front of the stage was a huge leak in the roof under which several buckets were placed -- built-in crowd control?
Though deep, dark, dank, and damp, the Beat Kitchen made for a good venue with good acoustics. Around closing, the staff got REALLY pushy and rude with the all-ages crowd.
Come if your favorite band is playing here (and they do book some GREAT acts), but don't make it your regular place.

The place to throw a fun, family pizza party on North Milwaukee is Pete's, where great pizza is truly better enjoyed dine-in.

The place to go for saucy, stuffed pizza monstrosities that will definitely satisfy is on the busy corner of Congress and Dearborn. Great for a special occasion. Large dining space and good service. One of my favorites is the variety that includes whole stuffed olives in with the fest of the toppings.
Worth the wait, and worth the price. This is the kind of place I'd want selling slices around the corner from me.
