Rebecca Haas is my realtor and I recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone who is looking for residential or commercial real estate in the Seattle area. I didn’t know what I was doing when I wanted to buy a house. Rebecca and her crack team were right there with me helping me with everything from finding the right house, to making a strategic offer, to recommending an inspector, contractors, and electricians. Rebecca will work hard for you and fight for you! This woman is a firecracker! She’s also a professional who’s got all the details covered. She’ll make sure you’re keeping on track too. I really appreciated that. No losing the deal by missing a deadline. It also doesn’t hurt that she treats her clients very well. The last party of hers I went to featured an on-site sushi chef! If you’re in the market, drop her a line. You’ll be glad to have Rebecca in your corner. http://www.teamreba.com/

Hazelwood, run by a couple of Seattle musicians (Ben Shepherd and Drew Church), is a small, yet inviting bar in old Ballard. Red velvet and a chandelier give the space a warm feeling. At the downstairs bar, you'll usually find cool neighborhood folks hanging out on the barstools. The upstairs area is full of comfortable sofas and space for a DJ (Sunday nights w/ Johnny Horn of KEXP). Really nice space to hang out. Upstairs also features a peephole. Press the red button. I don't want to spoil the surprise for you. :) Can get uncomfortable when too crowded. All in all, a great neighborhood bar. On NW Market at Ballard Ave, next to the tattoo shop.

You won't believe how happy I was to find out that there is an L & L down in the south end (well, so south, it's Renton). The L & L chain started in Hawaii and serves up the unique Hawaiian-style plate lunch: a main dish served with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Any Hawaii transplant will find comfort in the familiar menu. My absolute favorite is the BBQ Mix plate (beef, chicken, and short ribs). I've found at Lynnwood and Renton that they don't cook the meat long enough. I want a little burn on my BBQ! Still pretty tasty though. Another complaint is I have is the strange sweet/sour sauce they serve with their Chicken Katsu. The standard Tonkatsu sauce would make this a much better dish. Instead, try the Chicken Cutlet with gravy. Also a winner - the Loco Moco - a plate lunch served with fried eggs on top of a hamburger patty smothered in brown gravy. Yum! I feel my arteries clogging already! Portions are big enough to share or try the mini plate. http://www.hawaiianbarbecue.com/

The no tipping policy will get you in the door, the wonderful staff and excellent service will keep you coming back for more. I've had a couple of hair cuts here and have been pleased both times. I've also had a manicure which was okay. I'm not the biggest fan of manicures because I always feel like I can do it better myself. Oh well. Anyway, the salon layout is open and comfortable. As mentioned in another review, you are offered a beverage as you wait for your stylist. They stylists are hip, but friendly. You can get discounted services by trainees, also be sure to check their website for the daily specials. http://www.studio904.com/pages/dailyspecials.html I also appreciate the fact that Studio 904 does a lot of community service. No pushy post-service sales either. Hmm, it's about time for me to make another appointment! http://www.studio904.com
UPDATE: I'm not changing my rating. I went back for another cut recently and chose a "protégé" stylist this time ($30 for cut plus 15% birthday month discount, yes I'm cheap). Got the usual fine service and received another good haircut. I did have to ask the stylist to fix some of the framing around my face, which he did. They "teamed" up on me to blow dry. Having two people blow drying your hair is kind of weird at first, but it did go much quicker that way. Still very happy w/ Studio 904.

This spa is a little fancier (newer) than Olympus in Tacoma and offers a few more amenities including work out equipment, juice bar, and Internet access in the common areas. Men and women's tub and scrub areas are still separate and lay beyond the locker rooms. There is a hot room in the common area, but the rest of the saunas, hot rooms and tubs are separate for men and women. The cafe is also in the common area. The Korean food was delicious. You must wear t-shirt and shorts assigned to you when in the common areas. Reminded me of my high school phys ed uniform. My scrub was excellent and the hair wash/scalp scrub was a very nice touch. Entrance fee (allows use of facilities): $25; fee for groups of 2 or more: $20/person; Body scrub for women: $50 http://www.newlifefitnessandspa.com/

Katy L got it just right! Olympus is a wonderful Korean-style spa for women only. Get over any body conciousness. Get naked and get scrubbed! Throw on a robe and grab some Korean food in the cafe. Hot rooms are also relaxing and wonderful. Drink plenty of water. They've opened up a second spa in Lynnwood. Haven't tried it yet, but the pictures make it look a little newer and fancier than the original Tacoma spa. I won't waste my money in European spas again! http://www.olympusspa.com
