Donnell Public Library is most definitely one of the cities most underused resources. Why go to blockbuster and spend a fortune when you can take out videos there for free. They have a very vast selection of a variety of movies. I enjoy coming here when I have the time on my lunch hour. I often find something interesting to take home.

The Jacob Javitz Center has always been an interesting place to go with the family. Not only is it huge and has lots of space they usually have interesting events going on. One time I took my family to see a travel exhibition they were having. It was a lot of fun. You can usually check their website to see the kind of events they will be having over the following months.

Entertainment Outlet is a so so DVD store that sells new releases and popular DVD's. The top floor hosts all the popular stuff. Go downstairs and you'll find a bunch of less recent and/or popular DVD's. The basement is a very disorganized and some of the DVD's are missing covers but dig along enough and you'll find some very interesting titles at very cheap prices.

Tai Pan Bakery has delicious pastries, chinese breads and wonderful buns. They also make regular hot food such as noodles, rice and teas so you can sit down and have lunch. However it tends to get very crowded so it may be wiser to take your food to go. The prices are okay but Tai Pan is one of the better bakeries and recent luncheonettes in Chinatown

Since Strand's renovation they have definitely become a more cleaner and a bit more organized than they were in years before. The prices are still some of the best around the no matter what you are looking for it is almost impossible to leave the store without one or two new books. Piece of advice: Avoid the elevator. It takes too long.

Golden Carriage Bakery, located in Chinatown, has very quick service, delicious baked goods and prices that won't dent your wallet. Besides the usual buns, cookies and cakes Golden Carriage also makes sandwiches and drinks with strange ingredients such as lychee. One of my favorite snacks is the pork buns.
Don't eat your goods inside though. The bakery is a dark and dusty.

Every summer when the weather turns warm I pack the family and take them to the Amusement Park in Coney Island. The kids always love it and the beach is nearby. I personally love riding the Cyclone. My kids love the tilt a wheel and anything that spins really fast. There's even a kiddie section for tots. A word of caution. Avoid the overpriced food and bring sandwiches and water bottles from home.

FAO Schwartz is not only fun for kids but for adults as well. It's a creative and cheap way to have fun with your family as long as you make sure to tell your kids that they can't bring any of the toys home. I especially enjoy the giant keyboard from the movie BIG although I can't do the chopsticks as well as Tom Hanks.

The baked goods are very good and canolis are delicious and they only cost $1.00 for the small ones and $1.50 for the big ones. Tropiano's is located in a not so secluded street on Forest Ave. It's one of the better bakeries in Staten Island.
