Rey's Restaurant 8/11/2006

Tonight me and my husband decided to try something new. We went to Rey's in Raleigh off of Buck Jones Rd. It is the same location where Ruth Chris steakhouse used to be. I came across the restaurant from citysearch which rated 9.7 I think. We made a reservation for 7:30 and got there early and they took us in right away. Great booth seat. We were constantly waited on, great service, very polite staff. The atmosphere was very upscale and beautiful for a night of dressing up and dining out. However the food was a disappointment. We ordered the Shrimp New Orleans (special not on the menu item). It was okay, nothing spectacular. New Orleans shrimp should have a thicker sauce. I ordered the French Quarter chicken (chicken stuffed with herb cheese topped with crawfish) and my husband ordered the pan seared black grouper topped with crawfish. My husband was so disappointed we traded dishes. The chicken I ordered was okay, the sauce did not stand out although the chicken was cooked perfectly and was tender. The fish did not look pan seared but rather poached or steamed. Total price was $52 something plus tip. I don't mind paying a little more, but I expect better food. I will probably give this restaurant another shot with different menu items. The food item I liked most was the complimentary pumpernickel bread with walnuts and golden raisins. This place was packed, so people obviously like this restaurant. But if you expect more, this place will probably not make your favorite list. more
