This place will always be "The Best", did you know that every Thanksgiving Day they open their doors to all senior citizens of Tacoma for a wonderful Thanksgiving Day Dinner with all the works. They have been doing it for so many years. The owners and all the workers and family do all the cooking and serving, clean up and at their expense.
The food is also very, very good. I love the people and food there.

Such a relaxing place to stop and eat, when I entertain we take them here to Katie Downs because they have the best cold crisp salad and it has great dressing on it. I love the sandwiches, they are big and the pizza is my husband favorite, I think they must make their own sauce. Good food, good people.

I have only tried the spaghetti. The first time it was just ok and went back a few weeks later and it seamed the cook may have had a bad day so waited and went back 4 months later and it was bad enough that when we got home we ate about 4 or 5 bites and tossed it out, it had no flavor and we have never gone back. But I have heard from others that the rest of the food is great, them I have heard "oh - I never eat the spaghetti, only the other things". So that's just my opinion.

I have been to the TAQUERIA EL GUADALAJARA quite a few times and have been very pleased with the menu, food and the staff. Everything on the menu is done as it it prepared in old Mexico and I don't believe that you can get anything bad tasting off their menu, I have tried about half the menu and my husband the other half and he is hard to please and he also say's it is great food. The staff there are very concerned and treat you as though you are their guest in their homes, I like that.

I have been going to I Hop from California to Washington and have eaten at other ones here in the Tacoma which were great and just leaves you feeling good. But yesterday was a different story and now we will never put another foot in any I Hops after at least 20 years of going there.
We arrived there at 11:30 am and it looked fairly busy so we had to wait for about 20 minutes, they kept calling other people who came in after us but I told my husband don't fret they haven't got a table for two yet. When they finally got to a table we sat there for just 5 minutes before the waitress came which I thought was fast. Then I looked around and said to my husband "wonder why it took them so long to call us as look there are 4 empty tables here for two people, which they filled while I was talking. After putting in our order we waited and waited, then we saw two ladies get up and walk out when their food came they only tasted it. I said that can't be good. Then all the people that were seated before us were getting there plates. Well it was now 12:50 and we still hadn't got our simple little order or coffee refills for my husband so he finally called the waitress over and asked why are other people getting their food and were not. She said oh and went to the kitchen and said hey wheres my order for table __ __ ? Then you could hear the cook say he put it there whey back so we heard her place the order again and she came to us and said the ham was cold so they had to redo it, my husband said why did everyone get their order whey ahead of us. She kept going back again and again and another 20 minutes went by and now my husband is getting upset and he called her over and said look I want our food or do I need to cancel breakfast and order dinner, and then she got really snotty and said "LOOK ARE YOU GOING TO LISSEN TO ME OR DO YOU JUST WANT TO GO -DO YOU WANT THE MANAGER"? No we just want our food so she says the other waitresses are stealing orders so I said put up a guard or you go guard it I'd like to eat today. Then finally we got our order and my plate had blueberry jam all over the rim but she sat it in front of me and said I can get you a new order if you want to wait. No I snapped I'll eat it anyway. The manager came and she said she was sorry and we could eat free I said no thank you I'll pay my way, she goes ok and that was that. I had only ordered a stack of pancakes, Nothing else and my hubby ordered bacon and eggs sampler and it was 1:30 before we got to eat. That was in Lakewood, Wa
at I Hop on Lakewood Drive SW, my advice is on Sunday go to a different I Hop unless you have time on your hands, oh but the way my pancakes were.

Thinking I had all the gift shopping done almost 6 months ago, I was not even shopping or worried about anything except how to cook a Christmas Dinner with all the trimming for 3 people when I am use to cooking for 40 or more, knowing the last 6 years i ate out on all Holidays. I have my menu done but now just getting it done will be the test for me UNTIL my husband came home yesterday with I have to buy a gift for work and then there is my boss and the list went on. Oh boy what do I do now I need 4 items and where do I go for the last minute things I need, plus I for got about getting a gift for our cat. Well I just happened to notice Walgreen's Drug Store has an on line shopping site and went there and fulfilled all the needs and I can go pick it all up and I will even know which aisle I need to find it on and I wont need to hunt around. Thanks Walgreen's for having a web site and a store to shop in.

I have never had the chance to throw a Christmas Dinner at our house as it was aways just Christmas dinner, not in my younger days either, I had to work every Christmas as Head Cook in Retirement Centers (someone had to cook for them and I always volunteer to cook because if I did not they would get store bought hamburgers) but I would spend hours preparing to feed them the very best and unforgettable Christmas, my menu I would make up and i had to fix for our 240 seniors and then they would have family members show up and that was always around 14 to 28 more people.
Turkey, Baked Ham and Pineapple, cranberry & pecan dressing, mashed potatoes with cream cheese, cranberries, yam and banana mello bake and orange with pecan sauce, hot cross buns, California blend squash veggies, snapped green beans with bacon and new potatoes. (remember now that would be 8 turkeys, and 5 hams) Now the desserts were 7 chocolate cream pies, 2 apple crumb pies, 3 lemon meringue pies, 12 pumpkin pies, 2 chocolate fudge cakes /fudge icing, 1 white cake/white frosting and 6 diet dies of the former ones mentioned. So keeping in mind I did all this in 3 days and by myself, so I depended whole hardly on Sysco products for all my ingredients, they are the best value for restaurants and delivered large quantity of food, and if it were not for then I really don't think that I could have did all that alone. Sysco Products are reliable, always fresh, and easy to use, like there pie crust in a box and the ready made pumpkin in the can and Sysco meringue in a can the diet foods for the pies and their cake mixes. I am more than sure if it were not Sysco Products I could not have done it as well as I did. The guest and the Seniors would always let the boss know that it was just too great and the best they ever had. ( er - they said that every year that I did their Christmas Dinners for 33 years)

I Hop will serve breakfast all day and they are "the norm" in dining out at chains, the food is basic and it all taste the same, but some are better cooks and do better than others and or the waitresses can make or break the monotony of such a place, so yesterday at lunch we stopped at I hop's, http://data.gointranet.com/cgi-bin/unitloc/ihop/locator.cgi?cpage=main.html&cu=sterpstra&cl=668
so when I say that our little waitress was really tops I mean it she was as if she were a family member and she seemed to blend right in with us and she was very kind. (This shows me she works where they have good re-pore with one another). Now I must admit the cook there was also good my eggs were perfect just the way I asked for them and my pancake were done and yet tender, they didn't over load my plate it was just right, I left content and they have good coffee. We had the Rooty Tooty Special and you get three kinds of meat-bacon/ham/sausage and 2 eggs any style, hash browns, all on a platter plate and then two pancakes the size of saucers with really good topping we choose strawberries. All this was a good price of $21.28 including tax and a pot of coffee for two people. So I just want you to know I will be back there the place was nice and clean too. The only two things I could find wrong was the handicap parking was on the side of the building and you had to walk a long way to the front door which was not good if your handicap and it was regular parking in front of the door. The other thing was the coffee pot had a large crack in front and a little dirt where the plastic bottom meet the top, it was coming apart, I guessed they couldn't afford a new pot. But the rest was great to say the least, Here is another link to some news about the stuffed french toast you may enjoy.
