St. Francis Fountain is a 50's style soda fountain/diner, and not in a Johnny Rockets kind of way. You feel as though you've been transported to another time, from the little booths to the candy counter and the wooden phone booth. The food is good too, especially the milkshakes, where they use their homemade ice cream. But a word of warning: weekend brunchtime gets busy, when it becomes a haven for Mission district hipsters.

On the weekends, I love to go out for breakfast. One of my favorite spots is Boogaloos. Although the wait is usually long, the food is great. Their scrambles are yummy, and they make really great potatoes. The decor is bright and cheery and they often have artwork displayed on the walls. It can get pretty noisy in there, however, and sometimes the waitstaff can be a bit rude.

I just attended a graduation celebration at the Carnelian Room, and wow, was I impressed. This restaurant/bar is located on the top floor of the Bank of America building (52 floors up) and there are huge picture windows around the whole place. It was an amazing sight. You could see all of San Francisco from up there. I would highly recommend going there and having a cocktail just to take in the sights.

If you love karaoke but hate the public humiliation factor, then head down to Japantown. At Do Re Mi, you can reserve your own room for you and your buddies to sing the night away in private. Each room has its own karaoke system, couches, and even a disco ball! What more could you ask for? The downside: they don't serve any alcohol. But there's always the option of brown-bagging it, just be discreet.

Sometimes, when you live in an urban city, you yearn for those staples from your suburban childhood. Well, at least I do! If you're like me, look no further than Presidio Bowling Center, where you can bowl a game with friends and giggle when you enter someone's name in as "ASS." Even better, they have a bar where you can get beers in bowling pin shaped bottles.

Living in the Mission District, there's one thing you can count on: good burritos! I always hit up El Metate when I have a craving for Mexican food. It's a tiny place, but you can always take it to go. It's also cheap and the portions are quite hearty.

I went to the Legion of Honor today. I had the day off, and I felt like doing something that would make me feel cultured. I had been to the museum before, but it was a long time ago, so I didn't remember much about it. Wow, was I impressed. Some of the older stuff doesn't appeal to me so much, but there were some really amazing paintings. My favorite was a huge painting of the Great Flood: it was just this immense stretch of ocean with the sunset lighting up the whole sky.

This bar has a special place in my heart. I used to live just a stone's throw away from this dive, and it was my friends' and I's version of "Cheers," if you know what I mean. Although it is a hole in the wall, they have pool tables, darts, video games and foozball, so you're never bored there. It's also roomy and usually not too packed, although these days, people are starting to discover this place.

I absolutely love Booksmith on Haight Street. This is the perfect place to go if you're looking to browse for a new book. They always have great selections featured on their tables, and good recommendations from the staff. They also get great authors to come and do readings/signings, like David Sedaris and Dan Clowes.

I really love sake, so I was excited to check out the Noc Noc, a beer and wine bar on Haight Street that specializes in sake. I met some friends over there and we got a delicious milky sake and some beers. The interior of this place is crazy: it looks like a cave, with big slabs of rock serving as tables. It reminded me of something out of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Strange, but definitely worth checking out.
