For the bowling enthusiasts who need privacy and concentration, this is not the place...but for those who might roll a granny-style shot down the lane after a few drinks, this place is perfect. It is a 21+ establishment, as it also serves as a bar. The bowling lanes are clean, flashy, and modern, and there is even a private area with a few secluded lanes (i assume parties and such can be arranged there). There are also about a dozen pool tables. The prices for both are pretty expensive, but if you work in the bar/food service biz, check it out on monday nights for industry night - free bowling after 9pm. The waits are usually long, so get there early and have some drinks while you wait for a lane. Drinks are expensive too, but the bartenders are usually very attractive women...

This place is a rare hybrid - a sushi and Korean Grill restaurant combined with a comedy club. The sushi is really fresh, but a little pricey. They also have nice specialty martinis and an assortment of good beers. Some of the clientรจle is a but upper echelon, but it's not overwhelming. What I didn't understand were the seats. Half of the room had nice wooden chairs, and upholstered couch/benches, but the other half had plastic padded folding chairs. It didn't really matter much, but it was a little bit of an eyesore compared with the rest of the decor.

Solas is an Irish Pub on Boylston Street, where the stuffy corporate atmosphere usually threatens any kind of variety among establishments. Not so with Solas. It is attached to the Lenox Hotel, but don't feel you have to be well dressed to enjoy some great Guinness or Smithwick's. Their spinach and artichoke dip is out of this world, with a dash of nutmeg on their pita chips. It tastes so much better than it sounds. Burgers and pub food is also good, and the Irish barstaff is pleasant. To go out for a smoke, they asked me to pay my tab...I guess they were worried that the guy without a suit might skip out on $12. Can't blame them.

This place is certainly spiffy. I was having a few beers in Solas when I asked the bartender where the bathroom was. She told me to go out this door and down the stairs...and I found myself in the Lenox Hotel Lobby. I thought she was playing a trick on me, but there were bathrooms in the lobby. Each urinal had a little flatscreen monitor. Even though I was in jeans and a T-shirt, I was treated cordially by staff and patrons in 3-piece suits. Nice to rub elbows sometimes...

I'm a pretty big fan of Trader Joe's, but for all of their selection and great prices, sometimes the Laissez-faire mentality gets to me. It's not so much on the floor, but at the registers. One time I was behind an older couple, and they were talking about how they were somehow involved in the art world. The kid behind the register took it upon himself to show them a piece of register tape that he'd accidentally sprayed with antibacterial solution. He thought it was awesome, and either the couple though it was neat as well, or they didn't have the heart to tell him to take up finger painting. "Yeah, I'm an artist too", the employee said. It took 5 minutes too long for their transaction to complete, and waiting in line with groceries, that's a long time. Kill as much time on the floor as you want, chat it up, but when there's a line of customers waiting to pay, don't waste their time with your corner-store chit chat.
And their fresh meat and fish selection is lacking...everything is frozen.

The angora has some good sandwiches, and it's usually pretty fast. One time, however, I decided to get a calzone. I ended up waiting nearly a half hour for it to be made even though I asked them and they said it would be less than 10 minutes. When it came out, it was huge, and cheesy and came with manufactured marinara sauce. Nothing special, but it was big enough to keep me full for the next 3 days. Their cold sandwiches and things are really good, and take a considerably shorter amount of time to create. Inside and outside dining.

Regina's has been lauded by almost everyone as having possibly the best pizza in Boston. I have to agree. I had their Original North End recipe pie as well as the Pollo Regina...one seemed like the staple and one, a house signature. It was awesome. The Pollo Regina had the most delicious ricotta cheese I've ever tasted. It was so fresh and creamy. And on every booth there is a bottle of spiced olive oil, parmesian cheese, hot pepper flakes, oregano, anything you could imagine possibly necessary for a slice of pizza. The crowd in this North End location was charming too. A few of the elders sat at the bar, where they serve bottles of Ballantine Ale!!! The jukebox has Italian classics from Sinatra to Dean Martin. It's a great pizza and a great experience. And wandering around the North End afterward in search of pastries is reason enough to make the trip.

This place makes a good everything. Loads of fresh veggies and meats with an assortment of tasty breads, Darwin's can make just about any kind of sandwich you want...but come to think of it, i've never asked for a grilled cheese on white....If you're walking on Mt. Auburn, near Harvard sq., Darwin's is the store with the big BUSH beer sign hanging outside. Half of it is dedicated to sandwiches and the other half is a coffee shop, but the place also serves as a convenient beer shop. The selection isn't huge, but it's enough. Beer and sandwiches...too bad you can't buy a beer while you eat in the shop; they only have a merchant's license! Most times their seats are all full anyway. Around lunchtime, expect a winding line to wait on.
One time I ordered one of their veggie sandwiches and asked them to include turkey on it...They charged me for the turkey but didn't put it in the sandwich. It was my only negative experience.

The Spirit of Boston is a cruise ship that sails the boston harbor and docks downtown by the world trade center. I've been on it only for a private party where there was a buffet and entertainment, including a rental casino (for play money) on the lower indoor level. The boat sailed around the harbor and you could see how wonderful boston's skyline looks at night with all of the lights. It was a fun night, and a bit different from the norm.

The Sil is on Brighton Ave. at Allston St. Sometimes it smells like urine or vomit, but most times i just smells like dudes. Pitchers of Pabst go for $6.75 and bud light is something like $8, so you can drink for a while with some friends and not be too far in debt. The best part is probably this bar's dart room. A whole room dedicated to 4 or 5 boards, with a few electronic scoreboards for the alcohol induced mathematicians. There's even a teenie window to the bar so you can order your drinks without missing a toss. They also have Keno and an instant lotto machine...and free stale popcorn!!
