I can't believe I lived in Boston for four years before I ate a cannoli from Mike's pastries. If you've never tasted one, it sounds weird; there's the whole sweet cheese filling thing and the whole not-so-sweet shell thing... Just trust me on this one, it's perfect.
Furthermore, Mike's has gelato, biscotti, cake, marzipan, homemade peanut butter cups and those little green and pink leaf cookies that they used to give us in Hebrew school. What's not to love?
Well, the crowd isn't fun, especially on a busy night. Give them credit for this, though - if you sit at a table, a server will get to you, take your order and maneuver it back through a throng of sugar-cravers in pretty decent time. Or, if crowds aren't your thing, Mike's delivers through the mail for a somewhat hefty premium. If at all possible, my advice is to walk there, though - what better way to justify those extra calories?

You cannot finish your food. No, really. A jumbo calzone defeated me, one of my housemates and my seventeen year old eats-what's-not-nailed-down cousin. Those plates of fries? They overfloweth. The food is good, though I wouldn't say great. Eating too much of it doesn't leave me feeling at my best. Then again, that may just be a sign I need to exercise a wee bit of self-control. The staff is reasonably friendly and there's a TV in the corner and lots of nice seating by the windows. Also, the cannolis are delicious.

I'm not quite as big a fan of Sicilia's as are some of my friends, but they're certainly deserving of their good reputation. When I came to Boston, Sicilia's marked my first encounter with stuffed pizza, not to mention with the calzone. I don't think their calzones have enough cheese in them, and they're rather small, but the Famous Stuffed Pizza is a definite treat - although perhaps a little too spicy for my taste sometimes. The desserts on their menu are also solidly delicious.

I know some people really love this place, and I know it has a bunch of vegetarian and vegan options. Personally, I find it hard to find something on the menu here that I feel like eating. It's nothing that's wrong with the food, exactly, it's just not my style. Even the smoothies aren't flavors I'm into. I admit, I groan whenever someone suggests we go eat there. Maybe it's just my die-hard bland-palate-ed ways.

You know that saying, about how if you knew what went on in restaurant kitchens you would never eat out again? I try not to think about that too much, but those who do won't have any complaints about Anna's. It's actually wicked cool to watch them make the food in front of you. On a practical note, you never have to worry about getting the wrong order, since they ask you exactly how you want your food throughout its preparation. Also, the food is absolutely delicious, and highly affordable.

A lot of college freshman discover Dollar a Pound. Shortly thereafter, a lot of college freshman discover "My Closet is Only So Big and I Will Never Ever (Ever) Wear These Plaid Overalls (No, Really)."
Dollar a Pound is one of the purest expressions I know of the principle of trading time for money. The clothes are literally spread out on the floor. The quality is highly varied. There are no changing rooms. If you enjoy that kind of thing (and hey, I do), you'll love it. Otherwise, maybe not so much.
p.s. don't forget the potential for buying clothes for the fabric - it's really a great bargain.

If you need BDU's, trenchcoats, fishnets, Special FX hair dye and the odd black t-shirt on a regular basis, the Garment District is essential. They've also got an incredible array of shoes, plenty of wacky tights, socks and arm-warmers, clothing made by local designers, vinyl skirts, silly hats and cat ears. They have a large vintage section, too. For Halloween, they've always got a good stock of costumes at a range of prices. In general, the Garment District is reasonably priced, especially the second-hand stuff. Some of it can be pricey, especially the custom-made items.

This Tello's is quite large - it's got a whole basement floor. The basement is where you'll find the shoes, the plus sizes, and a lot of the clearance stuff. I spend the vast majority of my time here on the lower floor. I'm never going to be as small as a lot of the clothes in the main part of Tello's, so as far as I'm concerned, it's the plus size section that makes Tello's exceptional. There are lots of options there, and they are so cute. I've always been able to find something I really liked. One caveat: if you fall in those middle sizes larger than 9 but smaller than 1X, that can sometimes be frustrating, as there aren't always a lot of 11's and 13's around.

I love Tello's so much. The clothes are sometimes ridiculous and they run very very small but they're usually very cute and the prices are hard to argue with, *especially* once you start poking around on the clearance racks. Diligence is rewarded, on that front. The best dress I bought all year cost me $7 off the clearance rack. On the flip side, you get what you pay for to some extent. This stuff falls apart pretty fast. Then again, it's so trendy you might feel weird wearing it in a year anyway. The shoes, though, the shoes are fantastic and good quality, too.
This location is a little smaller than some of the others and it doesn't have the same selection. This is most noticed in the plus sizes section. Still, it's in Central Square, so if I'm passing by I'll often pop in for a bit.

This restaurant is very similar to Stefani's located on Main Street and the two may be affiliated for all I know, but they are definitely not the same. For one thing, here they put the tomato sauce inside the calzone with the cheese. I'm not a fan. Other than that, the food here is fine. I've been in the restaurant and it's a nice place to eat, on a very pleasant street. There are a bunch of awards on the wall, and I don't think they're undeserved. I prefer Stefani's-on-Main-Street, but hey, I'm just brand-loyal like that.
