I've had a few decient meals at Sparky's when it first opened but it quickly decended into complete crapitude.
Initially the hot dogs and fries were good and I was pleased to note that I could get a decient hot dog without going all the way into Manhattan for Crif Dogs. The offerings weren't as creative as Crif but solid.
I'm not sure if they changed management or what but the last few times I went I nearly ended up stabbing the idiot behind the counter after they screwed up a corn dog four times in a row (how do you get a corn dog that's still frozen yet burned to a crisp?) and served me inedibly salty fries.
Perhaps I'm not cool enough to rate reasonble service. Either way I haven't been back.

After some years of searching and eating at establishments formerly hosting chinese take-out joints (you know what I'm talking about... the ones that didn't change staff when they converted) I finally found a decient mexican place in the city.
The menu isn't very large but the food is done very well. There are some vegan options on the menu which was a nice touch. I'm not vege but I tried the vegan options one night and found them nicely textured but a little starchy by the time you get through them. I strongly recomend the fish tacos. Some of the best I've ever had and they're very consistant in quality.
They don't server alcohol but most people bring their own. The blueberry lemonade is very nice if you forgot.

I'm from southern california and I think the food is medocre at best. Bean just up the street kicks Vera Cruz in the soft bits when it comes to the eats. However Bean does not serve alcohol so Vera Cruz has an edge. I'd stick with the bar and maybe an appetizer, but the food generally isn't anything special. Its not bad but if I'm paying NYC prices for food, I want something special.

Verb has some of the worst coffee I've had in a cafe. This is to say that the coffee is passable, but lord, it isn't good. Unless of course you like your coffee extremely hot and burnt. Aside from the coffee, the place has a great deal to recomend. The location is ideal for hipster watching, the food is excellent, and its close to everything bedford has to offer.

The coffee is top notch and the espresso is to die for. The prices are about average and maybe a little less than you'd pay at other local java joints but the quality really does stand out.
The majority of their traffic is in and out so the seating is fairly limited but if you can grab a booth with a few friends, the room is very sunny, well lit, and pleasant with a monthly exhibit of local artistry. Great place to study if you're hanging around brooklyn during the day.

I live around the corner from Warma and it is the goodness and light in my weekend mornings if I don't feel like treking out for brunch. The offerings go beyond the usual eggs and bacon on bread and they feature a large number of tasty sandwiches as well as some mexican specialities. Its cheep, the portions are large, the staff is friendly, and the smoothies are the best thing since air conditioning during the dog days of summer.

If you can manage to get a table, the Corner Bistro is the perfect location when you want a beer and a burger and don't want to think too much about it. The bar itself is narrow and the traditional dark, indestructable wood interior common to any other non-discript pub in the known universe. The TV's above the bar are always tuned to some sporting event. And the line is always long which is the only downside.
If you're willing to wait or you manage to get out early in the evening, its well worth the trip. Don't expect anything fancy, just a good burger, a cheep beer, and some fries.

I used to love going out to the Raven. The crowd was low key. The drinks were strong. Sadly, the interior was combustable.
Check out their other bar in Greenpoint, The Boulevard Tavern.

Just because you're vegan dosen't mean you have to pass on that nasty deep fried heartburn and Foodswings is there to deliver. The food is very, very politically correct as every item in the store is 100% vegan. No animal products are present so those with extremely stringent dietary standards can eat without a single worry in their heads.
This is a fast food joint so don't expect a healthy, well-balanced meal. The best bet is the drumsticks which are deep fried and many of the other items are either fried or extremely oily. Like I said, its fast food. If you wanted healthy and organic, you'd be waiting for a table at Angelica's Kitchen.
This isn't to say it isn't tasty and many carnivores have expressed approval at their selection of fake meats. Its a fun place to eat out and it should please everyone not watching their cholesterol.

A block away from Adorama, Calumet is a national chain that runs in line with the offerings and prices of the better known NYC photo stores, B&H and Adorama. The store itself is attractive, well stocked, and the staff is generally helpful and friendly. The big difference between Calumet and its competitors is that the store is quiet. If you need assistance making a purchase or just don't like dealing with crowds, you'll prefer Calumet to other stores in the city.
The prices tend to be slightly higher than the other stores in the city but very close. On some items, the price is actually better than its competitors (I found it was the best price for the Epson 2200) so be sure to shop around. The hours are also slightly shorter but they are open Friday afternoons and Saturday.
As the chain is national, be sure to call ahead if you want to purchase an item as the website may not match the store's inventory, especially for used items.
