I haven't purchased one of the home grown bikes that they offer at the shop but I have availed myself of their repair services a number of times. The last time I stopped in I had my handlbars replaced which was done within an hour and for a very reasonable price ($10-15 labor) so I've been generally pleased with the service and attitude of the shop.
As I mentioned, the shop specializes in their own home-brew bicycles so the only name brand they sell is Redline and their 9-2-5 model. Otherwise, they offer a fairly nice selection of bikes which can be built to your specifications for well under $1000. Check them out at nycbikes.com

I read a great deal of mixed reviews on freewilliamsburg.com on this place before I stopped by in search of fish tacos. While I wasn't dissapointed, I wasn't thrilled either and wasn't impressed by the portions. The service is friendly and prompt and the location is pleasant enough, but I found the tacos to be on the small side and while they were ok, they weren't exceptional. Not bad, but I won't return with Taco Chulo around the corner.

I ate at Zen Palate a few times during my year of strict vegetarianism and my experience is mixed. There are a few items which were always outstanding but often when I tried one of the specials, they flopped. I've found that the dishes with sauce tend to be soggy and often unpleasant. The noodle dishes are often excellent and I can't recomend the key lime pie enough.
The great location at the east side of Union Square does make it an idea stopping off point for an early dinner, but I would recomend getting there early as it can get rather crowded. If you're ravenous while in the area and prefer strict vegetarian dining, its worth stopping in. Otherwise I'd suggest making the trek out to Angelica's Kitchen, Kate's, or Red Bamboo.

I can't eat the cupcakes here as my sugar tooth capacity were overwhelmed in the first bite. This isn't to say they're not good, they should only be given to someone with a suitable lust for a peak sweet experience.
One thing to note is that they do not keep very well. By the next day the frosting is unpleasantly solid sugar and the cake is stale. I tried to be thoughtful and bring one home for my roommate but she found them inedible when she came across them the next morning.
I realize I may be the only one to discover this trait as everyone else rarely gets more than a block away before they dissapear.

If you can deal with a NYU frat crowd and really enjoy beer, this is an excellent pub to stop in.
The place generally gets crowded and noisy most nights so coming out early is advisable. The selection is extrodinary, I believe there are over 500 beers sorted by country or state (if American) and there are a large number of beers on tap. The food is nothing special, just good solid bar food but its well done.
The only downside is the crowd which consists of idiot fratboys and their females tossing back budweisers.
Who the hell goes to a pub that prides itself on its beer selection and drinks bud?

I've been generally pleased with Heartland but not impressed in the least bit. The selection of brews are nice but not extrodinary and the food is good but not great. I've been to a number of brew pubs and while none of them have been bad, Heartland fails to stand out from the crowd.
If you're looking for a frat crowd this is your baby. Personally, I'll stay away.

A friend took me out here a few times for their lunches. The price was very reasonable for a quick 3 course meal and I generally found the food to be nice, nothing special, but nice. Things were brought out quickly and its an ideal place for a quick lunch meetup with friends. One work of caution, avoid the pasta with oil rather than sauce... they're very heavy handed with the oil and I found myself feeling unwell afterwards.
The space is attractive and larger parties can be accomidated.

If you already know what you're looking for, this is the best place to go for any number of supplies. The selection of paper, pens, paints, and anything else you're likely to need for your creative needs are here. Prices range greatly as they stock a large range of products from very cheep kiddie quality to shockingly expensive and a number of levels inbetween.
The store does take a bit of getting used to as the layout isn't necessarily logical and the employees can be best described as oxygen thieves. You're usually better off asking a fellow customer and hope that they just happen to know what you're looking for.

The reason I keep checking back at Canal is the basement where the discounted jeans are. The styles are definately out of season and some of the cheeper racks are refurbished but if you're looking for jeans to god forbid, get dirty in, this would probably be your best bet. I've picked up some jeans for $5 a pair. Think I cried when I got chain grease from my bicycle all over them?

I was originally drawn into H&M by the relatively low prices for men's fashions that didn't toe the usual urban and sports lines which most other clothing stores followed. The variety of offerings was nice as well as it gave me a choice between the cheeper casual lines as well as the more expensive formal business wear (which was still very reasonably priced). Even though I'm a small size (right on the bottom end of the sizing chart) I was always able to find a few items which I actually liked.
However it seems that the buyer for the NYC stores decided that they no longer needed to distinguish themselves and they converted the casual lines over to frat boy central. I'm still able to find things in my size but not as often. The more expensive lines are still nice looking... but they don't cut them as small as the casual lines so I can't find anything. Bastards.
