I was taken here for a pre-Christmas dinner, and was pleasantly surprised! I'd never been to this area of Brooklyn and had no idea what to expect. Once inside, we were surrounded by luscious decor, and very amicable hosts, intent on being sure we enjoyed each part of our meal.
The menu selections were wonderful - foie gras, fish, lamb, chicken, great variety, and excellent food! Escargots made the right way, service was perfect, each course was served at the right time, the wine was perfect with the meal, an all around great evening, would definitely go back, and try their sister restaurant chez lola.

I happened into this bar on New Year's Eve after doing the fun run in Central Park. It was strange walking into a bar with such bright lights - I'm used to the atmosphere being a little darker. That aside, it was a nice mellow stop, away from long lines, trendiness. We were able to get a seat fairly quickly, and got waited on fast as well - hey, who can complain about a nice pint of Guiness? (Though, I will say it tasted less creamy than others I have had...)
If you're looking for a place that's a little less trendy, and where you might be able to hear each other talk, give this place a try.

If you're looking for a worthwhile savings account, look no further than ING. Their current interest rate is 4.5% and it’s always higher than your average bank. There are no fees, and you can earn money for referring your friends. You can set up a regular transfer of funds from your bank account to your ING account, and transfer money back whenever you require. (Note, when you transfer money between an ING account and a bank account, it takes about 3 business days. Important to note if you’re about to make a payment that depends on the funds.) The savings rate just keeps going up and up, it’s a win-win no matter how you look at it, and you’ll wonder why you haven’t invested in one before now!
Security is excellent – they just upgraded it to a 3-step process. To open the account go to www.ingusa.com (CONFIRM) send a voided check from the bank account you want to link to ING (or is it $5?) to the address on the website and in a few days you’ll be all set up!

This is a great Tribeca restaurant I just came across in the last few weeks, and the food is so good I can't stop going back!
Thirty Five is a Thai restaurant on Lispenard Street, between Church and Broadway. It's worth turning onto this tiny street for a great meal!
The lunch special is a fantastic deal - for under $10 you get a choice of a hearty appetizer - lemon grass soup, salad, steamed dumplings, spring rolls....AND an entree like Pad Thai, or several delectable curries and stir fries with your choice of chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp.
EVERYTHING I have eaten at this restaurant has been fantastic - favorite appetizers so far are the spring rolls, the steamed dumplings, duck spring rolls, and thai buffalo wings. The curry entrees are a perfect mix of vegetables, your choice of meat, and Jasmine rice - all mix together in a perfect blend of flavors, and your choice of hot, medium or mild.
The stir fried Basil is another excellent entree, and next time I go, I'm trying the Pad Thai - I heard another patron say it was delicious.
Don't be fooled if there are only a few diners inside - the restaurant is fairly new, and it's only a matter of time before you'll have to wait for a table.

This is a nice addition to the neighborhood, especially since losing Paper House Party Store - they have a great selection of cards, wrapping paper, party goods, and general merchandise.
We picked up a fake christmas tree plant that's perfect for a small city apartment. They had a full aisle of christmas cards, and many loose ones, also for birthdays, etc. If you need any kind of party goods, this is a good resource.
They have a few toys for kids, too. Finally, a store on 86th street that doesn't duplicate one that's two blocks away! (i.e. Starbucks, electronic, gifts, etc.!)

One thing that seems consitent with Verizon is excellent customer service. I recently switched my service to them, in party because the staff was so helpful and friendly, even gave me a discount on a phone which was about to go on sale the next day.
The coverage in the city seems excellent, and if you want to pay a little more, you have access to a whole world of entertainment - songs and games to download, etc.
One downside - phones run on CDMA, no SIM card, so you can't take them overseas, but if you use your phone mostly locally, this won't cause you any problem.

This is a great Barnes and Noble - coming from the city, it's nice to be in a B&N that's laid out on one floor in an immense store, rather than on multiple floors where you feel like there's clutter everywhere.
In this store, everything's laid out pretty well, staff is very helpful, and can tell you where each section is. THey have an excellent selection of craft books, fiction, computer, and a huge magazine section.
Of course, there is the mandatory Starbucks in the center of the store, in a very pleasing atmosphere where you can relax for a few mintues in the middle of your crazy shopping day.
Checkout seems pretty efficient, I've never seen a long line. Overall, a very pleasant shopping experience.

This mall may be on it's way out, but I was shocked at the limited merchandise supply, the disorganization of the store, and the lack of sales rep's knowledge about their inventory, and lack of interest in finding out if they had more available.
It's barely the end of December, and this store was already stocking sleevless and short-sleeved Ts! I know it's warm out, but, hello, it is winter!! THey had almost no women's long-sleeved cotton shirts available and the store was just drab and depressing.
Again - maybe the mall it's in is on its way out (it's one of the oldest in Newburgh, and becoming surrounded by bigger and better ones) but I'd recommend trying a different Old Navy if you're in the area.

THe name on the door of this store got me all excited to rummage through racks of crafting supplies - storage boxes for supplies, jewelry-making supplies, etc. Instead, it was one of those stores that sells scented candles, and crafts - the kind that look typical American wood-crafts, but there's so much of it it seems unoriginal, and unexciting. And not the unique ones, the wooden santas, horses, things that would end up sitting in your house getting no use.
The staff, however, was very friendly and helpful, I just couldn't figure out who on my Christmas list might want something like this in their house. if you do know someone that likes cute wooden crafts a great deal, you might want to take a look here.

It always disappoints me that we don't have Michaels craft store in the city. This place just has EVERYTHING. OK, if you're an avid crafter, and you know about and have easy access to the flower market, fashion district, or Pearl Paint in the city, maybe you can pay a little less, but Michaels does a pretty great job of covering every craft area you can think of, and inspiring you to pick up another hobby!
Especially if you're looking to give people a gift you made yourself, you can find all the fixings you need here - jewelry, sewing, painting, paper crafts, fake flowers...if the person you are buying a gift for is at all into crafts, this is an excellent place to shop, and they don't seem to be too crowded right before the holiday!
I found a lovely sewing basket for my sister-in-law here, and it was exactly the same as one I saw in the city for $15 more! The layout of the store is pretty good - wide aisles, seems clean and organized. If you need findings for jewelry, tissue paper, all to the right of the door, followed by sewing fabric and needs, and it goes on and on and on.
On the left-hand side of the store is an enormous paper section. Everything to make it easy to cut out shapes from paper - if you know anyone who likes scrapbooking, this is a haven for them. They sell machines that cut, templates for the machines, you wouldn't believe all the different gadgets out there for paper nowadays.
Another excellent section is the rubber stamping section and even picture frames, they just have it all!
Only drawback is that the staff is not overly knowledgable about crafts, and they can't seem to print gift receipts, can be very disappointing at times!
