DSW seems to collect all the sale shoes that department stores carry, but in one location. It's hit and miss, though, on finding a pair of shoes that A) fits well B) looks good and C) works with your budget. Of course, the A and B are often easy for me; it's the C that is never really present.
Good for browsing and selection, not so good for prices and the checkout line--which is ALWAYS long and there only ever seems to be 2 cashiers. Last 2 times I went, I spent more time in line than looking for shoes!

High-end styling products that work well but are expensive. My experience though is, the more expensive, the better they smell.
Both women and men are cut and styled here.
Conveniently located one block west of the Diversey Brown Line, just past Starbucks.

If you go for one reason, go for the beer. If you go for two reasons, go for the beer, and the mussels. The mussels are the best I have ever had.
The only negative I have experienced so far has been the wait. How many people need to eat dinner at 5PM on Saturday anyway? (of course, I'm only going at that time to drink!)

I recently bought a road bike from here. Manuel (ch sp.) helped me through the process of experimenting with bikes (I got to ride 2 different styles down to the lake front for awhile--they only asked to hold onto an ID and credit card), appropriate fit/sizing, the merits of clipless pedals vs. clip-in, types of shoes, pumps and locks, and clip-in shoe training (in store with the bike I picked out on a stationary stand). The process took almost 3 hours, and could have gone on longer, but I needed a break! Manuel was very patient with me, and a lot of fun (they all have a bit of the comedian in them at Johnny Sprockets).
The prices were decent and what I expected--they definitely didn't seem to be trying to hose me, or upsell me on items. However, even though I'm kind of a shy person and didn't ask for a discount or a freebie for buying so much stuff, I was a little disappointed that Johnny Sprocket's didn't offer to throw in a free flashing light or water bottle and cage.
Purchase included 2 free services/check-ups in the first year and I expect that if I continue to give them my patronage, other discounts may be forthcoming. The staff seemed in general was very patient and willing to work with all the customers I saw in my 3-hour buying spree.

I enjoy eating at this old world-style Italian restaurant. There are always plenty of selections, from the regular menu to the daily specials. I usually order something my server recommends, because I have a hard time decding.
The bruschetta is particularly tasty and the mozzarella has good texture/flavor. The wine/drink selection is extensive; the bar area and service is very good if you are just looking for after work/pre-event drink.
Live music can be heard some nights. Parking is valet or street, which can be diffcult as this is in Lincoln Park where it all seems to be permit or meters.

The pizzas are very good--I like the 'Shrooms. The grilled calamari appetizer is also a good bet. Some of the pastas are better than others, the same with the sandwiches. I recently ordered the spinach ravioli which I did not care for. The cheese in the sauce was flavorless and "gritty;" it may have been ricotta, which is what the shells were stuffed with. The shells were large rectangles and the pasta used was firm but also flavorless. There was a lot of spinach, however, in the shells and topping the entire dish, and that was good.
If you are in Lincoln Park/Lakeview, the delivery time is okay, averaging between 30 and 40 minutes. North of Addison, the delivery time increases to an hour or more.
This is definitely not high quality Italian, and is more expensive and not as good as Pasta Bowl.

While Map Room, with its extensive beer offerings and beer education, is still a great place to hang out solo or with friends, it isn't ALWAYS a great place to hang out. This mostly occurs on weekends when young twentysomethings, or those pretending to be young twentysomethings, converge at this bar in their chunky square glasses and blazers over layered shirts...you know, the ones who are trying really hard to be different and fit in at the same time. I'm not saying this happens all the time; what I am saying is that there is no predicting.
The bathrooms are small, but generally okay in the cleanliness department.
Map Room also seems to be a good place to meet people, either platonically or romantically.

The interior is nothing special and actually kind of depressing, as is the bathroom (which also has a moldy smell). So maybe you'll want to get take-out.

Yes, I know. Portillos equals hot dogs. But the chicken chopped salad is amazing!
Portillos has fast and efficient service, and the restaurant, while loud, is clean and has a lot of seating.
At some locations (perhaps all?) the 2 line service for hot dogs vs. the salads/pasta is so discouraging. I often enjoy a hot dog with the works and a side salad, but I don't like waiting in 2 lines and paying twice.

Bar1Events offers both Euchre and Softball leagues at its 5 bars (McGee's, Duffy's, Durkin's, Wrightwood Tap and Jack Sullivan's). Each of these bars sponsors softball teams. Euchre leagues are held at Durkin's, Duffy's and McGees, one league for each night, Monday thru Thursday.
Bar1Events also sets up special events and music groups.
The leagues seem to be well-run and the bars always have great drink and/or food specials for league participants.
