I take Metra daily and they are more often on time than not. But I often feel that Metra does not treat its daily riders as well as they could. Ticket prices went up recently and, with having to take CTA too, my budget is a little strapped.
Of course, there is a "link-up" card, but if you ever go to the RTA web site, you will find it difficult to find information on this service.
Generally clean--just don't use the bathrooms--except when Cubs and Bears fans ride. They spill beer and leave cans rolling everywhere. I think there should be 1 car especially devoted to them, so the regular riders can read, sleep, chat and listen to music in peace!

To the Zoo. It's free, makes you feel you're doing something worthwile (especially if you make a donation) and give you and your date plenty of opportunities to talk and things to talk about. Just don't go on a Saturday during the summer--you will not be able to move a foot without being run over by a stroller, a kid running around with no parents in sight, or people who just aren't courteous enough to watch where they are walking.
Plenty of parking and also close to the lake--can you say picnic?

Does anyone ever work here? I enjoy picking out clothes and equipment, because no one bothers me, but when I want to try the clothes on or check out, I spend at least 5-10 minutes looking for someone! Are the security cameras that good?
Prices are just OK. Most items can be found online for much less. So use this store for trying on, trying out, before ordering online. Or for those last-minute needed things like swim caps or sports nutrition bars.

Inside, of course, there are rare books and maps and exhibits, which are worth the trip. There are also events held here--I strongly suggest attending one because the content is superb (whether lecture or string quartet) and the southeast room (don't remember the name) that many are held in is sumptuous.
The book/gift store is small but jam-packed with books, stationery, book-related gadgets....really too many things to count. You need at least a 1/2 hour, if not hour, in this store. And make sure it's a payday.

The curators do lovely work in the organization and flow of the works. I particularly like the few Georgia O'Keefe pieces--they are stunning and highly recommended!
The gift shop is also a good place to pick up atypical and often unique presents.

I used to live across the street from this location--I was always there for a quick meal, a drink at the bar and/or playing NTN trivia. The bartenders are friendly, but not too chatty, and mix up great drinks.
There are typically specials, food and drink, although the prices are decent overall. They also have patio seating in the summer, which is set back from the street and not as noisy as some outdoor eating areas.
My menu favorites are French Onion Soup and the burritos. Of course, the pizza is pretty good too!

The French onion soup is superb--the cheese is always layered thickly. I also like the pizza bread.
This location is quirky and cozy, casual and friendly--you have to stop in to see why. Menu is extensive and great for sit-down or take-out.

You're better off buying an apple and some string cheese.
My local Chinese place has fruit smoothies. Ingredients: Fresh seasonal fruit and ice. No powders, no syrups, no artificial anything. Check it out: Wing Lee, Montrose and Damen.

I also like the Belgian beer selection, which keeps getting better, everytime I go in.

I generally avoide the buffet, but the menu items are consistently good--from the dolmeh to the lamb shanks to the kefta.
Great for large and small groups. There is parking across the street but it fills up quickly. However, there is usually parking on Ashland a block west of Clark.
