Pizza Capri is all about salads, sandwiches, pasta and pizza. I typically wander in to get a Zorba the Greek, thin crust pizza and Grecian salad with grilled chicken. However, pasta lovers will want to try the Tequila lime chicken fettuccini. It’s amazing! So if you're looking for a great place to meet friends for lunch or dinner, this is it. Keep in mind, prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for so go ahead and splurge a little.

Zest is all about flavor! It’s like taking a culinary journey around the world without leaving Chicago. I love the modern décor and chartreuse leather chairs. But most of all, I love the food. My personal favorite is the grilled pizza of the day! But you have to try the Caesar salad with spiced grill chicken breast. And if you decide to drop in for dinner try the Filet Mignon and mashed potatoes with grilled balsamic glazed red onions and blue cheese butter. Although the restaurant is connected to the Inter-Continental Hotel along Michigan Avenue, it’s anything but a tourist spot. I generally wander in after a long day of shopping, but anytime is good time to stop and eat.

If you’re looking for southern comfort food—this is it! The setting reminds you of local place along the Louisiana bayou serving traditional Cajun and Creole dishes. My personal preference is more along the “down south” Georgia kind of southern food. I generally start with the fried green tomatoes and peach chicken wings, followed up with fried catfish fillets and greens. However, I’m not excited about their peach cobbler because I’ve had better, but they have a peach smoothie, served in a jar, that you’ll love. My advice, prepare to wait whenever you go because this place is always packed! If you’re looking for a simple place with good food at modest prices—you’re search is over.

If you love Thai food, you must try Thai 55 in Hyde Park. It's simply terrific. I discovered this little gem while having lunch with a friend. I’ve been hooked ever since. My favorite, the Bangkok chicken over fried rice. They also have great smoothies and fantastic appetizers. I especially like their crab Rangoon and egg rolls. Prices are very reasonable and lunch specials start at just $7.

The warm cream pedicure, at the Red Door Salon at Saks Fifth Avenue, along the magnificent mile, is a must for tired feet! This signature treatment will soothe your aching soles, after a long day of shopping! Nail Technician Mary Moore began with the basics before applying a warm cream to my feet and legs. She also wrapped them in a hot towel to seal in moisture. It was like heaven!
The staff is friendly and very helpful. In fact, they offered to run out and pick up my lunch, while I relaxed! Keep in mind, this is Saks and the prices are higher than the nail salon on the “other” corner.

If you’re looking for a great facial, try the Marilyn Miglin Institute on Oak Street. I stopped in for the Perfect Balance Facial, after a long Chicago winter. At this salon, facials include; a detailed skin analysis, cleaning and exfoliation followed by a treatment mask--that didn't cost me an extra $20. The service was great. And my skin was so soft, I felt amazing. If you want healthy, glowing skin for summer--head to the institute! You’ll love the results.

Sole offers manicures and pedicures in a Moroccan themed-setting, while a D.J. spins house music--or so I thought. But they missed the mark in offering that "extra" something. They’ll offer you a complimentary glass of champagne or wine, while you soak your feet. Although, the nail technician was really very nice and the service was fair, I was very disappointed that the D.J. had the day off! Needless to say it was a quiet start to my birthday. I don't think that they lived up to the hype.

If you’re looking for a little taste of something sweet in your spa experience—head to Honey Child Salon and Spa. This luxurious spa prides itself on great service. I love their signature treatments like the decadent beeswax soak pedicure. Olivia cleaned and scrubbed my feet beyond recognition. And the honeysuckle balm really added moisture. But the icing on the cake--sliding my feet into the warm beeswax and paraffin! It was the best. She topped it off by polishing my toes to perfection.
But if you really want to try something different you must get the honey buns body treatment, a facial for your derrière. Christine massaged and rubbed cleaners, creams and scrubs before sealing in moisture with a paraffin wax. This 45-minute tune-up left my buns silky-smooth and baby soft. Talk about a taste of honey--it’s oh so sweet!
