It's hard not to make comparisons of this store to Calypso. Ibiza's been around for much longer and is what Calypso would have been had it not taken off like it did. This store features extremely eclectic clothing for the bohemian in all of us, but it just misses the mark. Where Calypso is light, Ibiza can be a bit somewhat dark, making that feminine, boho thing a little harder to pull off. In addition, the merchandising of the products is a little messy, so you muddle through the products and grow weary of sorting through it.

Lasagna is a restaurant that's serves (drum roll) lasagna! But in spite of its name, that's not all they serve. Not even a quarter of the menu is devoted to the dish, instead deviating to quite a number of pasta dishes, as well as chicken entrées. Everything else pales in comparison.
The seating is a bit cramped, where you can see everything going on at your neighbor's table, and the service leaves something to be desired. One thing that's not lacking, however, are the portions. Upon pain of death would I ever order an appetizer or salad in addition to an entrée, because we're talking a LOT of food.

This is a smallish spot - I can't even say spa - which has a cult following among Upper East Side women. Two women - Irene and Lucy, natch - work out of the location, offering manicures, pedicures, and waxing. This is truly a no-frills experience, for those who want inexpensive services done in a pinch. Don't expect any nice smelling oils and a pretty decor, while they perform your service with a smile and send you off on your way.

As a patient of Dr. Ostad for ten years now, I already knew what women's magazines started saying in recent years about him. He's great. In any given given skin crisis, his calm manner instantly put me at easy while he attended to the situation. Even though he has a tremendously busy schedule (which is the one downside), Dr. Ostad and his staff were so accommodating during the run-up to my wedding, what with the flare-ups that resulted from the pressure of planning.
I see Dr. Ostad for all skin procedures, whether cosmetic or medical. Even in worrisome moments thanks to too much sun exposure, he always put me at ease and made me feel like I was getting the best possible care.

This midtown restaurant and bar is a great meeting spot for after work happy hours and pre-game noshes. It's a relatively new, and welcome, addition to an otherwise unremarkable block. Large and spacious with sleek wood paneling, it's buzzing for lunchtime as well as for after work.
Stout has a great menu, which hits all the spots with burgers, pizza, and salads. But their beer list is even better. Obviously, the name implies a preference for a dark, heady brew, but they feature lagers and lights as well. All in all, their comprehensive beer list covers over 100 different kinds of beers from all over the work. That's not something many bars can brag about.

J.G. Melon is a very popular, somewhat unusual spot for the thoroughfare it's smack dab right in the middle in. Amongst all the boutiques and Euro-style restaurants is this lower-key, tavern-like restaurants where the guys go because they're instantly comfortable and the girls go because the guys like it.
Their small, limited menu focuses on the basics, like burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and salads. It's a very reasonable choice for lunch or dinner. In nice weather, they have a small sidewalk cafe for dining. I personally prefer eating inside, as the sidewalk section is very cramped and not very relaxing, what with the shopping hordes buzzing around you.

Searle is the princess' pick for fashionably trendy clothing in the Upper East Side. Like Intermix or Scoop, this store offers a wide range of looks by just an extensive range of designers, including DVF and Paul & Joe, as well as lesser-known, independent designers. This shop covers you from head to toe, with their shoes and handbags display as well.
But be warned - to acquire one of their lovely items for sale, you will have to max out that credit card. Nothing, except for basic tees and tops, falls in the double digit range here.

Vespa in an unlikely place in the Upper East Side and you can't miss it with the Vespa permanently parked out front, natch. Primarily a restaurant, they serve Italian fare, including pastas, meats and fish. They have a sweet little bar up front for drinks prior to dining, making it possible to wait for a friend in comfort while sitting at one of the little tables up front or at the bar.
But once the warm weather hits, you'll want to hang out in the back garden, whether you're eating or dancing. Yes, dancing. On Friday nights, this place turns into an al fresco lounge with their house DJ spinning music into the wee hours, from Thursday through Sunday. ON the weekends, it's disco, while on Thursday and Friday, it's a clubbier mix that lifts people up off their feet to dance.

I was given a recommendation to come here for a waxing appointment, and in turn, I recommend you don't if you're a seasoned New York spa-goer. By this I mean you like your spa service to be reasonably efficient and done within a given period of time, especially those like manicures and waxing. These two services I consider more as necessities, therefore I don't want to spend hours having them done. That would be opposed to say - a massage or a facial, which are designed to be relaxing.
My visit here resulted in the longest, slooooowest waxing experience of my life. An hour in, she still wasn't halfway done. This is good for someone who's never been waxed and would like to try, or really has a lot of time to kill. But not I, so ultimately, I walked out of there with only leg done, because I just couldn't take it anymore.

Whiskey Ward is a complete and total dive in the Lower East Side. It's hard what to define it as other than "divey". There are bikers, rockers, and the hipsters who aspire to be as badass as the first two. This is not a bar for a first date, or any date for that matter. What it is is a place to hang out, enjoy a drink, play a game of pool, and listen to their jukebox which is truly unlike most others in the city. A lot of rock, mostly of the more obscure variety, is featured here. This is a true monument to Lower East Side bar culture and a last remaining holdout in the face of its gentrification.
