I support whole-heartedly the concept of table side guacamole and the fantastic margaritas, as Dos Caminos has both. As you can see from previous raves, the concentration has been on both. But after that stellar beginning, the main course falls flat.
I'm all for creativity, especially when it comes to food, so I was sorely disappointed by this restaurant. The marriage of flavors and ingredients here always confuse me, and never cease to surprise me, not in a good way. A strange poblano duck special still haunts me to this day. Frankly, if they were to do the guacamole preparation at the bar, I would never both going back to sitting down at one of their tables. You can pretend to have an eclectic palate while eating their food, but admit it, you really don't like it.

The Pink Pony is definitely an interesting place. While the interior and menu suggest a cozy, country-style restaurant, the customers contradict that notion.
I've been here for brunch on several occasions, and was never disappointed. They basically meet the need of a reliable go to for when you're in the mood for a traditional breakfast. However, the customers here are definitely creative types, where I've had scenes acted out by two performers who were rehearsing, all over a plate of Eggs Benny. Another interesting sideshow was a guy's unique attempt to pick up a girl by just walking in and sitting down next to her, despite never meeting her before. Always interesting, never dull, you don't need a cup of coffee at this place.

Unlike other brides, I found my wedding dress on my first dress and it was here at The Bridal Atelier at Mark Ingram. After a few fluffy confections, I pulled on a beaded, deco-style, empire dress that almost screamed "Me! Me! Me!" I say almost, because I still wanted to radically modify the style from a modest cap sleeve to a sleeveless, deep v-neck. Not a problem, said my lovely salesperson Lydia, as she and her team set about making the dress of my dreams happen in under four months.
From start to finish, they were the epitome of patience and professionalism, even when I had second thoughts about the dress. The end result was I spent my wedding night in a elegantly gorgeous dress, which felt like my second skin.

You want to throw out your IKEA furniture and take the next design step? Jonathan Adler is the name from which you should build on.
I love this store as much as I love Jonathan Adler's product. Adler himself is a designer of pottery and has expanded out into home goods and accessories, including accessories and pillows, for starters. His aesthetic is contemporary, without being too stark, and a bit of fun thrown in. I'm saving up for a platinum fish sculpture of his, which would make a great conversation piece on any dining table.
But aside from his line, this small shop features products from other lines as well, rounding an overall interior "look" by giving you options as far as tableware and furniture go. And like Adler, they have sleek but whimsical lines, that don't break the bank either.

Vero Wine Bar is a little slice of happiness found within a wine and antipasti bar. It's sleek exterior stands out away from the more family-friendly, sunnier establishments, providing a cool lounge ambiance for those who want the hipness, but don't want to travel very far.
The food is great and great for sharing, whether you're having the bruschetta, antipasti, and paninis. Along with that is their extensive wine list, either by the glass or by the bottle, making it so easy to while away an evening here just chatting away with friends.

Unless I'm entertaining visitors who are attracted by its "authentic" diner appearance, I prefer to pass on Googie's for brunch or lunch options. The food, in general, just comes off as average to me, regardless of what I have tried. It's passable, but nothing is so stellar that I could actually remember what it is that I've consumed here. Probably an omelet or a sandwich (shrug). And this is why I don't understand the long lines of people waiting for a table at Googie's.

Before I say anything else: this store has everything Pookie & Sebastian has, for at least half the price. Which should be no surprise, given the complaints about Pookie's mark-ups. So if you find you really like the products and want to get what you pay for, Meridian is the place to be.
I also like this store, because it deviates from the outdoor mall that has become 34th Street. They've got that mix of clean basics and jeans, mixed with contemporary fashions with cute details, like pailettes on skirts and updated versions of the beaded tops that were so hot last year. Also a plus is their accessories, which I've yet to see anywhere else besides here.

It goes without saying you eat at Pastis to check everyone else out. Imagine yourself walking on a runway while you're being led to your table. That's the only to walk within the hallowed halls of this bistro over in the Meatpacking District.
Once you're sat down, you will find the food to be very good. Brunch options included eggs and a salmon dish that I inhaled in a most unsophisticated fashion, garnering stares from my impeccably mannered neighbors. But even the fashionably chic are very noisy, as evidenced as Pastis. You can barely hear yourself think and upon leaving, I discovered I had Man's Biggest Migraine from the decibel level inside.

Maybe hipsters never had Cuban food before Cafe Habana? I initially came here because of the hype and the Lenny Kravitz video. You know, the one where he's looking for the girl who works in a cafe? Anyway...I'm not sure what the hoopla about, other than everyone here is very pretty even when they're trying not to look pretty.
Sure, the corn is standout, but you don't have to wait for a table to get that, as they have take out next door. But everything else, like the blackened chicken or the burritos seems no different than what you could get anywhere else. It's not the worst Cuban food I've ever had, but it's not the best either.

La Paella is a sweet little spot just off of 3rd Avenue, tucked away so you barely notice it unless you walk right by. With the soft lighting, countless bouquets of dried roses on the ceiling, and intimate (sometimes tight) seating, this makes for an ideal date place.
As one of the longer-running tapas bars in the city, the menus satisfies. Delicate dishes of their variety of tapas are never overcooked, over seasoned or oily. Everything is prepared to a T and the ceviches are unbelievably delicious as well. With a pitcher of sangria, you may be to full and happy to think about dessert, but that's worth giving a shot as well.
