Unexpectedly pleasant surprise

Wednesday, May 10, 2006
On countless occasions, I've walked by Rafina and mentally told myself to pop in for a meal. When I finally did, I asked myself, "Why didn't I do this sooner???" It's an unassuming restaurant in out-of-the-way York Avenue - bottom line is that you don't come here for the scene. The food, however, more than makes up for it. I'm still dreaming of their marinated calamari appetizer and pita/spreads sampler. And how they make a simple grilled fish taste so good, I don't know. Without the bells and whistles of any sauces or butter, my swordfish was mouth-watering. They offered us a complimentary dessert along with our coffee, leaving me stuffed, happy, and wondering why I hadn't done this before.
