I went to Serious Pie the other day for the first time and i have to say, i was not impressed. I'm a fan of Tom Douglass's other restaurants, but I'll pass on Serious Pie any day and head out to Tutta Bella or Via Tribunalli instead. Here's why:
For a starter, I ordered the beet salad - which was incredibly boring. basically it was yellow and red beets with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and a little bit of mint. I didn't think the mint really did anything for the salad and I would have liked to have a little more salt or balsalmic vinegar. It was just not that interesting.
For dinner, I ordered the buffalo mozzarella pie for my entrée. First off, it was burnt. Second, the tomato sauce tasted like it came from a can. Third off, the mozzarella didn't taste like buffalo mozzarella. Again, kind of boring. However, my mom ordered the cherry bomb pizza which was the best thing about the night.
I was hoping that they could redeem themselves a bit with dessert because they had cannoli on the menu and I absolutely LOVE canolli. But, i was pretty disappointed to discover that the canolli was actually 3 baby canollis, in a cinnamon type shell on a bed of pistachios with a maple chocolate syrup surrounding it. As a lover of cannoli, i was so sad to see a classic Italian dessert altered like this, without any mention on the menu.
So basically, all in all, i wont be going there again and i was really embarrassed that i suggested we check it out.

the previous poster has it right on the money - this place needs a serious remodel/makeover.
Unfortunately, i signed up for a full year membership and i am totally kicking myself now for it. I don't even know where to begin about how bad this place is, but i'll try.
1) the woman's locker room smells like a dirty diaper. it's horrible. the carpet is probably 30 years old, and it just soaks up all the gross pool water and sweat from people. I am afraid to touch anything in the place.
2) the showers NEVER have soap. However, i guess it doesn't matter since i'm too afraid to touch anything in the locker room.
3) the machines are usually never wiped down by the previous user.
4) they have a few TV's in the cardio area but they only play baseball and basketball. Don't you think they could at least put one TV on CNN or some news show?
5) they must not pay their instructors very well, because the classes are boring/lame/not intense/too crowded. The last step class i went to, the instructor had a piece of paper in her hands the whole time with her dance steps written on it.
6) The instructors don't change the routine up very often. So, as a regular, it gets very very boring. After about 4 classes, i feel like I could teach the class.
7) Apparently the instructors don't listen to the radio, or else they would know that their music selection is way out of date. If i hear C and C music factory one more time, i think i might stab myself in my ear.
8) after running through what i ate that day with one of their professional fitness trainers, he told me that i ate too many carbs. I didn't realize that eggs, veggie sausage, a salad with turkey, celery and cucumbers contained a lot of carbs. But, apparently they do and i need to cut them out of my diet.
9) the parking situation is a nightmare.
So, if you want a cheap place to work out, and don't really care about any of these things, than it's probably fine, but come on - at least keep the place clean and free of germs so you don't catch a staff infection like the previous poster.

My husband and i went there the other day because we were both craving hamburgers for some reason. They have 6 or so different kinds on their menu (plus a bunch of other stuff - there menu is pretty big). I had the goat cheese and bacon burger and it was SO good. The bun was REALLY good. They serve it up with home made chips from potatoes, yams, and other root veggies. They were a little greasy, but yummy.
They were also playing one of the world cup games - they have about 4 or so nice TV's throughout the bar/restaurant. A while back someone made a post about where to go see the games in a kid friendly environment, this place would probably ok for that.
So, my only problem was that the bartender was the only person in the front of the house, and there were at least 20 or so patrons in the bar and dining room. He was obviously in the weeds. A really good bartender probably could of handled it. He looked a little stressed. Also, it took 30 minutes to get our burgers, which seems a bit long.
It was pretty reasonably priced and maybe on a day where there is more staff, it would have been a better experience.

However, Tutta Bella is less fancy and a less expensive and has an awesome Tiramisu - plus you get free coffee or espresso with dessert. I also think the staff is friendlier at Tutta Bella than VT.

I can't believe that i have live on Capitol Hill for so long and this was the first time I've ever eaten there! Crazy i know!
Anyway, here goes for the review. I went there for Breakfast on Saturday around 12:00. It's easier for me to just list out the pro's and con's below (me not a very good writer):
Food - yummy - I had the Egg, Bacon and Arugala Sandwich with the rosemary potatoes. It was awesome. The bread was chewy and yummy, the bacon was perfect, and the potatoes were so good. I also had an apple juice (my hangover cure) which was pretty good, but it was more like cold cider than juice. My friend had the regular old egg, toast, potato and bacon breakfast. She said it was yummy.
Service - it did take a little while to be seated and it looked like people were waiting a while for their food. I was a bit hungover, so maybe i was overly anxious to get my food too, but it did seem to me that they could have used another server or person back in the kitchen. But, it wasn't horrible, and perhaps i could have passed the time by talking about more interesting things.
Price - totally reasonable
I'd totally go back and maybe even try out dinner or something there.

Every time i walk into this store i wind up buying something. Initially, i went there to buy some snowboarding gear - they've got a pretty good selection of outerwear, accessories, etc. I've been thinking about buying ski's and they have a crap load of different brands and a pretty good range as far as the price is concerned. They have an on line retail storefront and an on line outlet (evogear.com), so they have a bunch of stuff at really good prices on line and in the shop.
But honestly, the draw in my opinion, is the street wear. They have the cutest clothes and they carry a lot of brands i don't see anywhere else. for example - Bench, Jsus, and Gentle Fawn. They have a pretty good selection of jeans and shoes, plus some swimwear, sunglasses, watches and other cool accessories.
And on top of all that, they have a little art gallery in the back which is pretty cool too.

I forgot how great this place is. I'm not feeling very creative today to write, so I'm just going to list out what I liked:
Service - Excellent. Recommended good food/wine and wasn't overly attentive.
Drinks - Sangria was great. Waiter recommended the Montes Alpha Cab, reasonably priced and delicious.
Tapas - Loved the Bistec and the Crab/Habenero Ceviche.
Dessert - El Diablo. The dessert chef brought it out too. It was soooo good. I would go back there just for dessert. and - it's only $7!
Things I didn't like:
honestly, I cant think of anything except that I ordered a dirty Martini and it wasn't very dirty. Other than that, I cant complain, I loved it. I don't know why I dont go there more often!!!

Wow, I'm really surprised at what great reviews this place has gotten. I wasn't terribly impressed with their food - it's ok though. And yes, their drink menu has some cool things on it (albeit, very expensive). But, I felt that the service was pretty bad and because of that, i will probably not go back. I live in Capitol Hill and really want to see businesses thrive here, but I was unimpressed with the staff. I gave it 4 chances, and i think that's about as many as I'll do. There are plenty of other good restaurants around.
