Feel like the high roller you are at Touchless. Hand your keys over and watch as a swarm of immigrants works over your dirty ride. They work super fast getting your car looking spiffy and smelling clean. Complimentary newspaper comes with the service, so kick back on a viewing bench and watch the action and feel so fortunate you can afford to have others clean your own crappy car.

So there's Zipcar and there's City Car Share. Which one should you get membership in? Both cover gas and insurance. Both have cars all over the city. Or at least all around where I go (check websites for details). The big difference is that Car Share charges $4/hr + mileage (and $2/hr at night), where as Zipcar charges $8.50 (I think that right) and no mileage. So, you gotta think, what am I going to use it for? If you're a gigging musician and want to park outside a club all night and drive your drums home afterwards, obviously, Car Share is the way to go. If you're inclined to do quick trips down to San Jose in an hour or two, than it's Zipcar. Really, the answer is to get membership in both and use the services strategically to get the most out of your transportation buck. Whatever you do, get rid of your frikken car!

One day I'd love to buy a bike from Freewheel. Not to get a good bargain, but to take home one of those gorgeous bikes they have in the window. Wow. If only I had $2000 to throw down right now, I know where I'd go. They've got all the other bike necessities here, as well as a friendly, knowledgeable staff. But for some reason, whenever I go in here, it's $1000+ bikes I get fixated on. I have no idea what it'd be like riding a pro bike like that compared to my junker, but maybe one day I'll get up the nerve to test one out…

Today, I rediscovered the true meaning of burrito. It was after marching in the sun all morning for Carnivale. I was exhausted, dehydrated, hungry. Someone picked up burritos for the group. They were from Castillito, a place I've eaten on many an occassion. I picked a regular veggie from the bag. True to Castillito form, it was nothing special. But damn, it was so good to be eating a burrito after having worked my ass off outside. And really, that's the point of burrito – not some delicacy for hipster elitists to endlessly blog and kvetch over – but the perfect wrap-it-in-tinfoil-and-take-it-to-work-with-you food. The easiest, cheapest, most satisfying sort of working man's meal. And it doesn't have to be a good burrito to do that. With burritos, it's so much less about what is being eaten than who is eating it.

Shakuhachi is one of the hardest instruments to get going on. Sure, playing any music well is difficult, but with the Shakuhachi, you can go years without even getting a decent command of making a note on the thing, let alone learning to play the music. The road to Shakuhachi fulfillment can be a lot smoother with the instruction of a master, and Philip Gelb's Bay Area Shakuhachi School is where you can go if you want to take the plunge and learn the art of the Zen flute. Offerings of fine Japanese teas and his homemade pickled veggies make visits to Philip's studio all the more enjoyable.

Besides heading up the most rockinest improvising neochamber death metal Bass Clarinet quartet (called Edmund Welles) in the entire world, he also teaches great music lessons for anyone who's been thinking about touching up those fancy licorice stick licks, or just starting out…

I understand why Shalimar is a favorite of so many people. Unlike most restaurants in this city serving up subcontinental fare, Shalimar doesn't suck. It's almost like how in NYC you can walk into any nasty ass Indian dive and get great food scooped out of the hot trays for super cheap. Mmmm... Good bread and standards like channa masala and saag paneer. If you're in the Tenderloin, you won't do better. (Unless you eat at Tu Lan, but if you want Indian/Pak you should eat here).

There are very few restaurants that I actually have cravings for, but every so often the Long Life Veggie urge hits me and… well, since it's in Berkeley, usually that means I eat something else… but lawd help me if I'm in the Berks, because then I'm in heaven because nothing can really compare to their super healthy veggie fare. Their various faux meat creations and sauces are a cuisine all their own. If you want something really wild, try the seaweed salad... it's like someone went to the bay, scooped up some kelp and put it in your plate. Very salty and strange.

Does after work beer drinking and pizza get any better than Jupiter? Heck, I don't even like beer and I think their pizza is only just passable for bar pizza, but STILL, I don't mind sitting here with the coworkers and watch them get their post employ buzz on. Especially if it's a nice evening and we're sitting outside in the back.
