I was a fan of Arena Football from its infancy. Way back when Arena Football first came into existence, and before the league was purchased by the NFL, there was a team in Chicago known as the Chicago Bruisers. Sadly, the Bruisers only lasted a single season. That's a shame because my friends and I would get great seats right near the cheerleaders. It was great.
Well, a few years back the Chicago Rush came into town. They are now poised to win their first championship and bring championship football back to Chicago. This team is awesome and the stadium, Allstate Arena, is awesome. Arena football is intense and great. No separation between offense and defense. No sidelines. You can play a kickoff off of the nets. The field is only 50 yards. Tha confined, fights between teams are inevitable.
Go see the Rush. Enjoy.

This Dairy Queen located at the corner of Devon and Canfield in Park Ridge still has the right idea about what a Dairy Queen should be. It should be run by one person, a family preferrably and it should concentrate on ICE CREAM. While this place has changed ownership over the past couple of years and expanded, essentially this is the same Dairy Queen I went to with my family nearly every Friday night as a kid.
It's still only open during the spring and summer and boarded up and closed during the fall and winter. It's still a place where you can walk in and see a menu of ice cream and not one packed with fries, hot dogs and burgers. This is an ice cream place and on a hot summer day you can find the sidwalk of this place crammed with kids and families all eating ice cream as it slowly melts in the sun.
The parking is non-existent. A few spaces in a narrow lot behind the building. You will probably need to park on a street. Seating is limited. What did we do as a family? We'd park, get the ice cream and then ate the ice cream in the car.
It's great, it's small and it's perfect.

This is the library where I pretty much spent my entire childhood. This was the place where I would spend hours after school doing homework and doing all of that research for the term papers I had to write all the time. I also spent time competing with other schools in the Great Books program.
While the library in Schaumburg is bigger and puts this library a little to shame, the Park Ridge Library is excellent and has pretty much everything you would want. You can find every book or magazine you could want and they have managed to modernize just as well as any other library. If they don't have the book there, you can bet they can find it for you.
There's even a part of the library I always liked. Right at the top of the stairs you can find a rack of very used paperpacks. Pick the one you want and put a quarter in the honor-system box and you have yourself a great new book to read. It's simple, but it's effective and it was cool to get books that way.

This is just a fantastic library. The building is practically brand new and walking into this place is like walking into a kind of mall. You walk in and there is a lobby that branches off into the electronic media you can rent and the children's section. Then, you can walk up the stairs into the adult section. Holy Cow, if you can't find your book here then it probably doesn't exist.
This place is just perfect for a library. It has outstanding resources, unlimited numbers of books, videos and DVDs. Even the bathrooms are really nice in this place. Use their online system to find a book at pretty much any library in the suburban Chicago area. If they don't have the been here, they can get it for you.
This place is just fantastic. Try it out.

Jerry's was always the place for myself and my brother to buy our pumpkins every year for Halloween. It was like some plane dropped huge cargo-loads of pumpkins in the parking lot of this place. Once inside, well, you found yourself completely surrounded by more fruit and vegetables than you could ever imagine. The fun part was trying to find all of the various exotic fruits (what is Star Fruit anyway?).
This place is a little nutty. The traffic alone will drive you about crazy as people fight over spaces. Inside, you will find the place crowded. Personally, I would rather fight my way through Caputo's, but Jerry's sheer size means you will probably find the fresh produce you are looking for no matter how exotic.
They used to have great prices on milk here too, but I don't know if that's the case anymore. I don't think any place does anymore.

The changes at U.S. Cellular Field have turned a so-so stadium into the finest place in Chicago to watch a baseball game. Sure, at first, the stadium was just too big and too tall for its own good. Sitting in those seats near the top was like sitting in a seat bolted into the side of a wall. However, recent renovations have turned this stadium into a state-of-the-art baseball-watching experience.
They cut down the seats at the top and put in a kind of "roof" or overhang. This changes the wind-patterns on the field, but ads a homey quality to the stadium. The Fundamentals section in left field is the best place to take rowdy kids during the game. They can hit, run, learn to pitch. It's fantastic and well past anything the laughable Flubs on the north side have come up with. Apparently they feel kids will enjoy the stench of beer, vomit and enjoy urinating in a trough.
The food at the Cell is the finest in baseball. Pizza, ice cream, churros, Polish sausage, gyros are all a few feet away. Plus, if you are in in the concourse to get food, the wide-open structure allows you to still see the field and the game, unlike at the crumbling disaster on the north side.
If you want a true baseball experience, visit the White Sox at The Cell. Enjoy the montage and opening theme music with the great sound system and gorgeous Jumbo-Tron. Enjoy the fireworks. Enjoy ample parking that doesn't involve paying $30 to park in some yokel's garage. Mostly, enjoy world championship baseball.

It wasn't enough for Chicago just to have the best pizza in the world, they then had to have the best stuffed pizza in the world. Giordano's is the kind of pizza that clogs every artery you have on the way down and through your body and leaves you stuffed like a tick after two pieces. What's great about the thick, cheesy, stuffed slices is that they take home well and heat up even better. Better yet, heat them up just a little and eat them just warm rather than hot.
A plethora of stuffing ingredients awaits you. Don't order anything too big because when the 'zza arrives you will want to have plenty of room. Huge, thick crusts, cheese, stuffed with what would normally be your toppings and then topped with more cheese.
Holy cow, this is classic pizza. I discovered it as a kid and frequented it throughout college. You have to try this pizza.

If you are tired of buying your meat from some faceless person at a CostCo near you and want that old-fashioned one-on-one attention like the good old days you need to pay a visit to Schmeisser's. Yes, they are known for their sausages, but my family loves them because it's the best place in town to buy a pork roast.
This is the kind of place where you need to know your cuts of meat when you walk in. Quality is second-to-none and you can tell by the crowds that congregate here. You point to the meat you want and tell them how you want it cut and, voila, fresh meat. No signs tell you what the cuts of meat are, you need to know.
It's classic. It's good stuff. It's quality and it's worth the price.

For anyone who works in law, or is an accountant or needs information about Human Resources law, you can't go wrong with CCH, Inc. CCH used to stand for Consumer's Clearing House, but these days it is known simply as CCH, part of the Wolters Kluwer, Inc. conglomeration of companies.
CCH is the industry leader in providing quality publications for attorneys, accountants and business professionals around the country. Their key product is a annotated and indexed copy of the latest U.S. Tax Code for accountants. While this may not sound like exciting reading or publications, if you are in the business of accounting you can't do better than publications from CCH.
CCH has expanded with the times by offering electronic and online solutions such as CCH@Hand which allows accountants to find the laws and information they need on their desktops without having to leaf through tons of paper.

Russell's has the best barbecue in town. What makes it for me is the sauce. The sauce isn't that gloppy, thick, cement-like sauce you will find at a lot places, plus you get to add as much or as little as you want your self. The sauce is a little thin and watery but has a light flavor with a unqiue mixture of spices and tastes. It's excellent.
Get the barbecued sandwich. Really, there's no point in going here for anything else. You can forget the burgers and all of the rest, the reason to spend half an hour finding a place to park and then standing in line just to order is for the barbecue. Get plenty of sauce because you will want to dip your fries in it as well and then just eat until you feel ready to burst.
There is nothing fancy here. The tables aren't fancy and there is no decor to speak of. If you think having juke box control panels on each table is the height of table settings, then you know you are in the right place.
It's great barbecue and unlike any other you will find. Try it!
