On a whim (a very calculated whim, though), I decided to go get my nose pierced. I didn't tell anyone, I just went. It was my first experience with paying for pain, only I had no idea it would hurt. So I went in, cash in hand, and sat down. The man who pierced my nose asked if I was scared, to which I replied surprisingly, 'Should I be?' He said never mind, counted to three and punched a large needle through my nose. Tears involuntarily came out of my eyes which had never happened before. He told me they were crocodile tears. Huh, I thought. And since then I have adored my nose ring and the story about it. I didn't feel square (even though I was) and my nose healed perfectly (thanks to clear instructions). I'll never do it again because it hurt, but that's my own fault.

East West is a great resource. Not only do they have lots of new age, alternative books, but they have workshops and speakers, too. Right near Whole Foods, Zenith Supplies and Sunlight Cafe, you can feel pretty comfortable in your alternative, spiritual, organic lifestyle. I like taking some time to browse all the books because sometimes I'm just in a self-help mood...everything from tarot cards to divination tools to feng shui to creativity books, it can be too much sometimes!
Then I remember to breathe and release with peace. :)

I'm not the athletic type at all, but when I was training for a triathlon I went to SJnJ and they were really great. Low frills but great shoes. They asked the right questions and every pair I have bought have been PROBLEM FREE (not even when I was wearing them in) and they have been a comparable price. They have different brands too so they're not trying to sell you by brand, but by your running style (pronate, supinate, etc). And they have been consistent, which is why they are still in business.

I like that they sponsor organizations...if you're going to pay $4 for a cup of coffee, might as well be going to something beneficial.

Then there is the pizza. Non-dairy options! They have amazing crust (and bread sticks) and I just love the way they make it.
I also like that you can go online and order that way. No more confusing phone calls (although I'm sure they're used to that). They do call back to verify your order, which is nice too...

I enjoy a little over-stimulation now and again. Being a bibliophile can often get a bit overwhelming (sometimes while I am scanning one book, my eyes are searching for the next interesting cover to pick up)...I try not to go to Elliot Bay when I am in a rush. And I try not to read as much as I can in 30 mins...They carry all kinds of books, even obscure ones, or can get them easily for you. TONS of literary magazines and each section has a wide variety (books on homesteading instead of just green design). They have readings and book signings (it's THE place for the popular authors) and the staff is HELPFUL. I'd work here if I could, but I would probably be fired from reading all day...or maybe they think it's a good thing...:)

The best part? No cat smell, like SOME bookstores.

U Bookstore is a great place for art supplies. When I was in art school I came here more than any other art store because they had the more obscure supplies (electric/battery-operated erasers!). They also validate for parking no matter what you buy. They have a great selection of books and of course textbooks, and I like to look through their magazines for any new ones that aren't widely distributed yet.
They also ship books for free and wrap them too.

Very Ave. I don't like that they serve tea in Styrofoam cups...it's completely wasteful. I think they have as many veggie options as any place else because you can get stuff without the meat.

It's rare that I have such strong cravings or salivate like Pavlov's dog when someone says donut. But Mighty-O must have some strange, addictive substance that makes me crave them so. Being vegan is actually very attractive...they don't taste fake or too sugary. And I too, love the French Toast donut. We're doing donuts for our wedding cake...why eat yucky white icing, when there are yummy, vegan donuts to be had?
The cafe in Wallingford is cash/check only so be prepared. I am craving them now *drool drool*
