Absolute Auto Advances is a garage you can trust.
We have been working with Mike, the owner for over 15 years, first at his old location, and now at this one.
They are a bit off of the beaten path, but they are worth the trip.
The mechanics are very knowledgeable, the staff is very trustworthy.
From the simplest oil change to a complex repair, they will give you the best service.
They give estimates and have always completed the work in the projected time.
The waiting room is small, and right off of the main garage, but if you aren't looking for luxury - but you are looking for honesty instead - they are the right people.

Fitzgerald Auto Malls are a good place for a fair deal.
They have a good selection and an available network to get cars quickly.
They are a no-haggle dealership, and their sales staff are paid hourly, not only by commission.
We have found the salesmen to be very knowledgeable and actually interested in what car would be best for our needs - and not what car costs the most.
The prices are fair, based on what other dealerships sell cars for and what Consumer reports estimates their price at.
However, I recommend everyone to research price before they go - just in case.
The car-buying process is long, coupled with the last-minute attempt to sell you undercoatings and car alarms.
That said, it is much easier to buy a car there than anywhere else we have been.
They also have a service plan, where you can get a loaner for life whenever your car is in for repairs.
This did not turn out to be a good deal for us, since we have a mechanic we trust for our routine repairs.
The times we have gotten service through them, we have been pleased.

It's located near the Amish market on Wisteria Ln.
They are a typical salon, with good prices.
I never have to wait long, even on a Saturday.
They have a good selection of colors, even OPI. They also airbrush and paint on designs for extra money.
A full set is about $22, and a fill-in is $12.
Thier pedicures are the best - with vibrating chairs and a TV in good viewing range.
The staff is friendly, and efficient.
I don't think they use new tools each time, though - something you'd pay more for at a pricier salon.

The Magruder's in Gaithersburg is the place to grocery shop if you want to save money!
Their prices are very low, and they double coupons!
The negatives:
The store is small, and sometimes hard to negotiate a cart through.
They also have a smaller produce section than most supermarkets in the area.
The checkout staff is not always friendly, but they do get the job done efficiently.
The positives:
That aside, the selection is good - and the prices can't be beaten.
The loss-leaders follow a pretty predictable pattern, allowing you to stock up on every day items every few weeks.
The deli meat is very high quality, as is the fresh fish at the fresh fish counter.
Their prepared foods are good too.
The store label chicken is also very tasty, and has won acclaim.
This store even has a wine and beer section!
The kosher section is also of good size, as is the fresh section of peppers and chilies.
A great value if you don't mind the negatives!

The new Germantown Indoor Swim Center is located in the Germantown Soccer Plex.
It is fabulous!
The facility is brand-new (Jan 2006) and the staff is great.
The locker rooms are clean with individual shower stalls (with doors.)
They also have 2 'special needs' changing rooms which they also recommend for families.
The instructors for the swim lessons are very knowledgeable, and are great at instructing on every level - toddler to adult!
The facility itself has 3 main pool areas - a deep water area with lanes (that can also be used for diving), a shallower pool with lanes, and a kid-friendly pool.
In the kid pool the depth varies from 2' to 3.5'. They have several 'water dumping devices' and a waterfall mushroom which are on during Open Swim.
The very best thing, though are the water slides!
They have 2 really tall (2+stories) slides that you need to be 48" for. They also have many slides that smaller kids can go on (adults too!) as long as an adult waits at the end.
The Open swim costs $6 per adult and $4 per child (for county residents.)
It's a great way to spend a dreary weekend afternoon!

The new Moby Dick's in Germantown is wonderful!
This restaurant is very budget friendly.
The quality of the food is higher than what you'd expect from essentially a fast food restaurant.
You order from a central location, then sit in a comfortable dining area to wait for your food to be ready.
The entrées are large, usually 2 adults can share them.
They come with ample amounts of rice and the amount of meat is fair for the price.
The different types of meat are chicken (excellent!), beef, ground beef and others. You can choose your entrée to come as a sandwich (wrapped in a pita), a salad, or as a platter (with lots of rice.)
The pita bread there is divine, and it is fabulous when dipped in the yogurt sauce. Always order extra!
As a family, with 2 small kids, we can always eat there for under $20.
Outside of the restaurant is an eating area, nice for the warm days of Spring and Summer.
If you like kabobs, you can't go wrong with the food at Moby Dicks!

The Red Robin restaurant in Germantown, MD is a great family restaurant.
When you walk in, there is a TV in the floor (!) and some video games to the right. Balloons lurk in the air above, ready for a happy child's hand.
The decor is typical family-restaurant, with pleasant lighting.
They have TV's in the corners, which they will switch to your preference if you ask.
The food is good, and they have the never-ending basket of fries.
They serve soup (the tortilla soup is awesome!), salads, burgers, pasta and chicken.
The prices are reasonable, about $8 for a burger and $12 for a non-sandwich entrée.
The kid's choices come with fruit (usually) and they are great about splitting the kid's meal between 2 small kids.
A few nights a week they have someone dress in the Red Robin costume and come around to greet the kids. Call ahead to ask when!
A nice restaurant for an inexpensive, family friendly meal.

The bicycle staff at Dick's Sporting Goods in Gaithersburg, MD are wonderful.
The store can be a little busy at times, and it definitely has a 'large store' feel when you checkout.
However, the staff in the bicycle dept are worth the effort, if you are looking for a bike.
The staff is knowledgeable, and friendly.
The store itself sells many makes of bike (unlike specialty shops) and they often have wonderful sales.
We bought 2 adult bikes from them a year ago, along with the lifetime-tune up warranty.
It was definitely worth the extra money. We just had our bikes tuned-up, (at no extra cost) and they very easy and professional to deal with. The staff member took the time to ask if our bikes had any specific repair issues, which he then wrote down on the repair form.
They also take the time to make sure the accessory you want to buy is a good fit for your bike. Many women's bikes are small, and some accessories (like) will not fit on them. They can help you figure that out before you buy!
So - aside from the large-retailer feel, the staff and products are well worth the trip!

The Italian Pines Restaurant is a little neighborhood gem tucked away in a shopping center near Lakeforest mall.
The restaurant is small and cozy, with simple Italian inspired decor.
The restaurant is family-run, so we always have the same servers. All of the staff is very friendly and very helpful. It is also kid friendly, even though it has no specific children's menu. They allow us to order a 'half order' of spaghetti for the kids, with no fuss.
They also offer a good value, with most entrees being between $8 and $15.
They serve typical Italian fare, simple, and delicious with many outstanding menu choices.
One of the best items on the menu is thier antipasto - a salad with everything on it (tuna, carrots, salami, anchovies, olives, cheese and more) It is a great start to your meal.
The fresh bread that comes right after you are seated is delicious too.
The menu includes salads, pizzas, soups, pastas and specialties.
A great little relaxed Italian place!

The staff at Performance Bike in Rockville, MD are fabulous.
Any question you have about cycling in general, for kids or adults - well, they have the answers!
When the fit you on a bike, they actually let you ride it (with a borrowed helmet and some ID, of course) out on the sidewalk for a bit. No other bike shop I've encountered will let you do that!
They only carry one brand of bike, Giant. They are a bit pricy, but they do tend to have end of season sales.
They do carry a full line of bike accessories, from packs, to panniers, to trailers, to camel-back hydration systems, to clothing and helmets. They also have a full line of bike parts for total customization.
They also have a bike repair shop, and can build your bike for you - though in the spring it can be a few day wait to actually get your bike after purchase.
All in all - a great resource for bike info, accessories and high-quality bikes.
