You call and actually talk to a person who really wants to help you. When I was frozen out online because of password problems, the tech guy reset it over the phone (once I proved who I was.)
You immediately receive a $300 overdraft credit so that if you make a mistake in your checkbook, the check won't bounce (if the $300 will cover it). After a few years we were upgraded to $1000 overdraft limit.

On the afternoon of Mother's Day a few years ago, our septic system started backing up. We had just moved to the country and my husband had no idea what to do. We had seen Mr. Gardner's truck around and knew he lived nearby. Not only did he answer his phone that Sunday, he was here in 5 minutes to pump out the tank.
He's a great guy who knows his business. You can rely on his judgment and expertise.

I had never been into a Dollar Tree until this one opened in Weatherford. Unlike Dollar General, et al, DT is clean, organized and appears to be well managed. The stock is rotated frequently so every week you'll find something new to buy.
The concept is that everything's only a $1 and that's true. Lots of the $1 food items are off-brand or national brands you can get for less at the grocery store. The grocery aisle doesn't do much for me.
I like DT for its seasonal items. Everything you need to buy to fill stockings, for your child's school parties and to celebrate any holiday is always at DT.
Always check out the scrapbook area on the office supply aisle. Lots of similiar products retail for three times as much at a scrapbook store.

Type of food: Sandwiches, muffins
Atmosphere: Pleasant gift store and coffee house with lots of fun things to look at, a cute knitting store and a large airy dining room. Open early for breakfast and coffee. A big huge favorite with the moms of Aledo. Christian theme that is not overbearing.
Prices: Specialty coffee drinks start at about $3.
Recommendation:This is NOT Starbucks so the lattes, cappucinos, etc. are not made a barista, but rather one of the big automatic machines. If you are addicted to Starbucks, you probably won't like the coffee here.
The gift shop is REALLY well-stocked with lots of books, jewelry and other neat things. Drop in if you need a quick baby gift or something for your child's teacher.

Golden Corrals are all over the place in Texas. It is a all you can eat large buffet restuarant with fruit and salad stations, an entree and sides station and a big dessert buffet.
I can olnly compare the food to the all-inclusive meals you pick from at a Jamaican resort. It a favorite with local fire and police officers, and families.
The food is heavy, typically overdone and just plain nasty. Meatloaf, spaghetti and meatballs, fried chicken and fish, a drying out pork loin - you get the idea. The desserts are like cardboard; however, kids like the ice cream sundae station. The salad bar does have lots of fresh fruit choices and in the off-season, you can eat the price of your meal in strawberries, melons, pineapple, etc.
What is irrestible is the breakfast - tons of bacon, sausage and velvety scrambled eggs. Omelets made to order. Biscuits, gravy and grits, too. In other words - a heart attack on a plate. It is just so darn good on a Sunday morning.

Swiss Pastry is an old timey bakery and restuarant. It's a favorite with elderly lawyers, for example, as well as "ladies that lunch." Not real exciting.
But here is the deal with Swiss Pastry: It's all about the black forest cake which is not really a black forest cake at all - no chocolate except for shavings on the top and certainly no cherries to be found.
What it is, is a large rectangular meringue covered and filled with whipped cream. The meringue is sliced horizontally, with about three layers, one on top of the othe, making up the cake. Somehow, the cake is covered sides and tops completely with chocolate shavings (They must blow it on!).
A Black Forest cake will run you about $20, should be made and picked up the day of your event and must be refrigerated. Sometimes the recipe is reprinted in the Star-Telegram. If you search on Google, you should find it.
Now go order one ASAP. It's a Ft. Worth institution!

I read the previous review and believe every word of it. The ladies at the counter ARE NOT good with instructions. Fancy decorated birthday cakes are not their forte. Not alot of brides in Ft. Worth order a wedding cake from there, for example.
What Harpers does best is the white cake mentioned by Jessica. It is delectable and cannot be duplicated at home.
The BEST thing to order at Harper's are the PARTY SQUARES. These are oversized petit fours with white icing poured on and a bit of decoration.
They are superb for birthday parties and tailgate parties. TCU folks get "TCU" written in purple icing on their party squares and they are so cute. Great for baby showers - add blue or pink or yellow and you have a gorgeous dessert display.
I think the reason the party squares work out so well is that you really don't have to give much instruction - just tell them what you want on the top. I believe they are $2 each.

Before R&K moved into town, Wanda's was a favorite place for anyone craving hot-plate diner type food. Since you can find home cooking elsewhere, pass up Wanda's for something a little more civilized.
Type of food: Fried fish, chicken dinner plates; burgers, steak, etc. Yucky salad bar.
Atmosphere: Semi-run down place that can reek of smoke. The twist with Wanda's is that on the weekends, they have a LIVE band playing and move the tables off the dance floor! Suddenly Wanda's is transformed into a C&W joint Hank Williams would be happy in.
Prices: Pretty cheap; great deals on all you can eat catfish and steak nights. Avoid the steak - the catfish isn't half bad.
Recommendation: A little too rough for a family night. It's the kind of place you could go after you've been working in the yard and didn't want to take a shower before eating.
If you are interested in the live music, call to find out exactly when and if the band is playing.

Type of food: The usual Subway menu. Several bread choices, different meat combinations and condiments to build your own sandwich. You can have it heated. Bags of chips and cookies available to purchase.
Atmosphere: This is a new clean Subway that does not overpower you with bright yellow booths and walls, like the old ones. Since it is across the street from a new WalMart Supercenter, it gets plenty of traffic. Teenagers and moms with kids during the day make it especially busy at lunch.
Prices: Typical sandwich is about $3. Specialty sandwiches that vary during the year (chipolte chicken, for example) are around $5.
Recommendation: My sons love Subway because they get to pick and choose what goes on their sandwich. It is really fun for them and they are eating relatively healthy food.

Pasta Fina is one of a small Italian restuarant chain. They are all family owned and operated.
Type of food: Basic Italian favorites done very well. Great lasagna which comes to the table piping hot. The portions can be easily split by two people.
Atmosphere: Casual; kind of dark and soothing, especially on a hot day in the summer for lunch. Wait staff is attentive and you are never left to fend yourself.
Prices: $6 lunches and dinner entrees ranging from $7 and up. You get bread and a small salad on the side. Plan to take your leftovers home for dinner!
Recommendation: Don't hesitate to drop in for lunch one day. The prices are good and service is fast.
