If you are looking for a thoughtful, competent, socially, environmentally conscious, salong & spa I strongly recommend either of Mode's locations. The Roosevelt location is a smaller neighborhood style salon compared to their Downtown location that offers skin, make-up and nail services.
I love that they are an advocate for continuing education for all of their stylists so i feel like i'm always dealing with a professional. But the best part of all is that all of their products are organic. Not only is it better for your hair and the environment but there's not icky smell of strong solutions. just the smell of clean gorgeous hair!

Piece of Cake makes a Fresh Fruit cake that has kiwi, melon, strawberrys sliced in between the layers of light, spongy, not too sweet cake, and iced with a light whipped cream based frosting that is anything but heavy. Absolutely delicious, and both my husband & I are not cake fans. But this was perfect. we didn't have it 'decorated' and instead put lovely collections of edilble flowers on it. it was simple, delicate and easy.

Located in the old Brie & Bordeaux location next to Luau, the restaurant and wine bar are sectioned off from each other nicely so the casual atmosphere of the wine bar doesn't effect the white tablecloth elegance of the restaurant.
We sat in the wine bar that had a nice long bar and ample table seating. The menu offers small plates at $4-6, snacks at $8 and dinner items at $14 -16 - so it fits any budget or appetite. The food was fresh and unique (I had roasted chicken w/blood oranges, green olives on a bed of lentils), and we had an organic wine that was great.

As a Style Consultant and Personal Shopper I try to support smaller independent boutiques as much as I can when working with a client. I took a male client into Bliss to check out their selection of shirts and anything but jeans because that's all he had. We were basically accosted by a male sales associate that was rude and disrespectful towards my client and when i asked him to please stop badgering my client he got nearly belligerent and started throwing clothes over the dressing room door at my client and insults at me. When I tried to talk to the manager about how upsetting this was she wasn't much help either and offered a measly "oh sorry".
I have supported both Bliss & their sister store Dream for my own shopping and the shopping of clients in great volumes before but I will never, ever patron them again after this experience.

For our 5th anniversary my husband took my existing vintage art-deco filigree engagement ring to Greenlake Jewelry Works to have a setting and additional diamonds added to it. The criteria was complex given that I didn't want anything too big, too showy or too cumbersome. In addition to keeping the integrity of the original vintage design. What they created is quite possibly the most amazing 5 stone setting that fits my hand, my style and my lifestyle perfectly. Not a day goes by that I don't get a compliment on it. I've since sent 3 newly engaged friends there that have been delighted with the results.
With my 10th anniversary coming up I'm hoping for a repeat performance from my husband and Green Lake Jewelry Works. I don't think I'll be disappointed with either. ;-)

But more than that it teaches you the art of wanting, like when you were a kid, again. By identifying what you really, really want and going on a Treasure Hunt to get it , you can discover some really cool stuff about yourself along the way. I used it to get clear on how to approach the next stage of my business.
I did a 10 week course that was awesome and I met some great people in my group. They also do Treasure Hunt Cruises for the ultimate vacation! That's my next adventure.
