I've been to Caplan's a few times and usually end up frustrated at the high prices. The auction house is neighbor to a lot of anitque stores in this quaint little town and it seems all the dealers go to these sales and are willing to pay through the nose for stuff. It's hard to get a deal on anything.
The room is also small and it tends to get stuffy and warm. The auctions start out fun and entertaining but the auctioneers tend to get tired and cranky as the sale wears on. I enjoy other sales more and get better deals elsewhere.

We have bought at least ten major appliances over the years at Cummins and have always been more than pleased with the sales help and the delivery. They carry only reliable brands, no junk, and their sales people know their stuff. They are friendly and helpful without being pushy.
The showroom is bright and clean and you are always welcome to just look. We always got delivery within a few days of purchase and the delivery people always showed up right on time. They used to take the old appliance away for an extra $10 (ask about this in case it has changed recently).
HIGHLY recommended.

Cindy and Bob Isennock run very nice auctions of nicer furniture and smalls, jewelry, and also lower end furniture and box lots outside (weather permitting). They have a great crew and they are the most honest and also the friendliest auctioneers around. Even at 10:30 pm at the end of a long sale they are still polite and cordial.
They also have specialty auctions now and then, like Fostoria glass, postcards, or Hummel figurines. Their website is excellent with lots of details and photos for each sale. They have email and regular mail lists.
You do have to pay attention to how they pull things off tables to sell. It does not seem to follow a pattern from sale to sale and if you're not right there watching, you could miss something.
Food is prepared and served by the fire department and it's much better than most auction house fare. Cheap, too!

PlaZa Artist used to be Towson Art Supply but they were bought out a few years back. The new store is just as good if not better. They expanded into the next door space and now they carry more supplies. The service is very friendly and helpful. They offer buyer discount cards if you are a regular customer. They also have a website though the last time i looked it was still under construction. The location is great except that parking is tricky. You can always park in the mall lot kitty corner and then walk a block or so to the store.

A. C. Moore seem to me to be less obnoxious than either JoAnn's or Michael's. I'm not sure why because they do carry pretty much the same stuff but it just seems a little nicer somehow. There's always a flyer in Tuesday's mail with a coupon good for 40% off one item and I think they take competitors' coupons, too. They have cheap matboard in the art department (not archival). I go here mainly when I happen to be at this shopping center for other stuff.
The store is crowded and sometimes untidy. Lots of parking unless you are there on Friday or Saturday evening, then forget it.

I have gotten a lot of matboard and some other supplies at this Aaron Brothers store. At first I assumed it was just another huge chain store with overpriced stuff but it isn't---they do have a lot of basic art supplies and a really nice selection of stock frames arranged conveniently by size. They also have regular sales and sometimes 40% coupons. You can get some real bargains on nice things. The help is exceptionally nice and efficient. They were able to track down a second frame that I wanted when they only had one in stock and I had it within days. I high recommend this store.

Bill Kidd's offers good reliable service for your volvo or Toyota. I have been taking my car there for many years and have been very happy with the service. There is never a long wait to get my car in and they will take emergency situations without an appointment, like the time recently when one of my car windows wouldn't close. They fixed it on the spot and I was on my way again within an hour. The facility is clean and spacious and brightly lit and there is a comfortable waiting area with papers and magazines and a TV.

This Barnes & Noble book store is in a great location in the heart of Towson with all kinds of other interesting and fun shopping within walking distance. The store layout is a bit confusing but once you figure out where everything is, it's a breeze. They do not have a huge selection of the kinds of books I read but they will order anything they don't have. They do have a great selection of magazines with seating so you can browse in comfort.

I don't understand the reasoning behind having live music in a bookstore. I like quiet when I am browsing for books to buy. Other than that, this bookstore is a pretty good one with a lot of variety and good selection. Their kids section has lots of loungey seating and very kid-friendly displays. You will need to check the store map to find everything because there are three or four different levels and many sections. We've gotten many good books off the sales racks. The location is great but parking is a pain.
