This is not a bad choice for Italian subs if you're in the area. Most are cold sandwiches, but they also offer an Italian sausage and an Italian beef (a respectable rendition) sandwich, which are both warm. Their hot Giardinera makes for a nice complement to their items. I wouldn't drive a long way to eat here, but Fontano's is a great alternative to the corporate sandwich choices in downtown Hinsdale (like Einstein Brothers and Corner Bakery).

This is the retail storefront for a major seafood distributor. The staff here are very knowledgeable, and can advise you on how best to choose and prepare their wide variety of fresh and frozen fish. Their fresh fish varies by season, and is always of the highest quality. I make the trip to Villa Park about once per month to pick up some of their smoked salmon fillets (of which they have a few varieties). If you come here once, I suspect you'll find yourself coming back.

The friendly waitstaff, exceptionally fast service, and good food make for a compelling Chinese food choice in downtown Hinsdale. Just one block away from the BNSF depot, the Jade Dragon offers convenience for locals and commuters alike. Lunch specials are low-priced, and offer a choice of entree, soup (their hot and sour is very good), and egg-roll for roughly $5.00. Portions are respectable, but not gargantuan.

Ask for the Thai language menu in order to get more authentic and adventurous selections. This site will provide a helpful translation of the items: http://www.silapaahaan.com/menus.html.
I recommend the somtam thai green papaya salad (with dried shrimp).

Their tortas are particularly enjoyable. If you plan to go for lunch, I suggest arriving at before 11:30 or after 12:45PM, as seating is somewhat limited.

Their Gyros are large and tasty. In fact, I haven't found a better place in the western burbs for a quick gyro. Despite the semi fast food nature of the place, I wouldn't consider it a bargain place to eat. They don't take credit cards, but I think there is a little ATM in the store. The architecture is not really in keeping with the Greek flavor of the food, but it is definitely distinctive.

This authentic Mexican restaurant has great food at reasonable prices. It's in a strip mall on the south side of 63rd, a little bit set back from the street. I often get the carne asada tacos, which are garnished with onions and cilantro -- piping hot and very tasty. There is little atmosphere or charm here, but the employees are very friendly. It's probably not a "date" sort of place, but you'll definitely get your fill without emptying your wallet.

Chinese Kitchen is an excellent spot for a tasty, yet inexpensive lunch. Lunch specials are generally less than $5, and portions are very generous.
