Famed fried chicken along Route 66 -- somewhat disappointing

Monday, April 10, 2006
Perhaps it was the hype that I've heard about Dell Rhea's which gave me unrealistic expectations, but I was a little let down by my experience at Dell Rhea's. I went one day for the lunch buffet, which commanded a surprisingly high price, as I recall. From what I've read, Dell Rhea's, along with White Fence Farms, offer the best fried chicken in the Chicago area (though some like to mention Harold's Chicken Shack too). The day that I went, the chicken was a little on the greasy side. The first piece was very good, while the second piece was merely adequate. I left feeling full but with a sense that I hadn't received my money's worth. I'll probably give it another shot, as it enjoys a very good reputation, but I'll order from the menu instead of the buffet.
