Strand's has such a good collection of art and photography books, it's amazing. There's a good mixture of both used and new books. And the prices are unbeatable. I've gotten a lot of biographies here on Monet, van Gogh, Raphael, Manet, etc. And I've saved a lot. I love their calendar sales as well. New calendars for more than half off sometimes. They have really huge calendars too (black and white photography of major cities).

Sweet Tater leaves something to be desired. It is a small vintage shop with brick walls and warm lights. Everything here is in unbelievably good condition. Their selection of leather bags is great- soft, tan leather, big leather bags. Also, great selection of skirts. Can be pricey though. This is a great vintage shop; better than most.

Screaming Mimi is a small vintage shop located near Washington Square Park. The inside is brightly lit and very clean (kudos to them because they don't smell like other vintage shops). You will find: period clothes (Victorian, 70s, 50s, etc.), frumpy skirts, ugly shoes, ugly boots (both of which are overpriced), and bags. Really really elaborate wicker bags that are covered with fower patterns and sequins and are uncomfortable to carry.

Chocolate is one of my favorite things, and I don't care what anyone says, a Hershey bar is just not as good as gourmet chocolate. And it's not just because they taste different. There are a lot of factors that go into this. For one, it feels so much NICER walking into a chocolate shoppe- it's got that strange mixture of Paris and Florence- than a convenience store. Secondly, there's the packaging. Mariebelle's has even better packaging than Godiva's if you can believe it- work of art!

I absolutely adore Kate's Paperie. My sister got her wedding invitations done here and the service was great. They sell beautiful paper by the foot- quite expensive for paper, but sometimes when you want to make a nice scrapbook or write an old-fashioned snail mail, it's worth it. They also carry lovely stationery, photo albums, and hand-made cards.

They are handmade, sewn with beautiful patterns, and makes me swoon. I brough a brown handbag here with pretty flower designs. The quality is excellent. It also cost around $200. It was a splurge.

I love the interior design of this place- bright lime green chairs mixed with the red sofas and black tables- whoa. The service is very good. I just love going here for meetings or just a casual brunch.

I don't very much like Talbots because, in my opinion, it fails in sophistication. I feel as if it is trying to have both an American and British sensibility- but it doesn't work. I don't like the pastel colors here. I'd rather go to Anne Taylor's. However, while the style is not one that I would follow, the service here was just wonderful- they assisted me and gave great recommendations. I walked away with a light orange sweater; I find that it's okay to mix clothes from Talbots with something from your own wardrobe (preferably something dark to contrast); en entire outfit from this store would be bad in taste.

When I think of Anthropologie, I think Paris, Milan, Madrid. The style is perpetually summer, perpetually lovely, beautiful, and sweet. To describe a pair of shoes I bought here: soft leather soles, navy satin cloth with white polka dots, a lovely little bow on top. Very feminine. They're so beautiful, I wear them around the house sometimes. The dresses I find at Anthropologie makes me weep with joy- simple, original, comfortable.
Don't bother with cheap imitations. The real thing lasts forever.
