We first called Blau when during a bitter cold snap, our furnace was just not working. Why did I pick Blau? Because there was a Blau service tag hanging on the pipe from the previous owner. Figuring they had been here before, I gave them a call. It was a risk I am happy that I took. The customer service people were thorough in taking down the details of the problem and setting up a time for us to get service and the technician arrived as scheduled...to find us huddled under an electric blanket!
As it turned out the problem was not with our furnace, but with Mother Nature, a bird had flown in there. But the Blau Dude had it cleaned up and the heat back on in no time flat and there were no surprise charges or pressure to buy other products. Next time we need to call in heating or plumbing people it will be Blau because we feel comfortable with them and their service!

Panera is one of our favorite spots to grab a quick bite on the weekends, or to pick up some warm (still warm from baking!) chocolate croissants or bagels on a Saturday morning. Their soups are just the thing on cold blustery days and their fresh breads are great to bring home to jazz up a regular weeknight dinner. I particularly like their sourdough bread to use in homemade cheddar fondue..mmmmmm!
On quiet afternoons I like to hang out there with the laptop and enjoy some coffee and their free wi-fi access while I surf the net or get some work done. LOVE that they don't charge for the internet access!

In the summer you won't wait as long because the outdoor seating is available. The staff is always friendly and willing to work with my husband to make certain dishes vegetarian. The green enchiladas with goat cheese are not to be missed!

I can remember the first pair of shoes I ever got from Payless: I was in 7th grade and they were iridescent purple skimmers that I was convinced would bring me happiness.. And they did! And I have been going back for over 15 years.
I love that I am able to pick up super-cute shoes for such low prices at Payless. I love a lot of these girly, sparkly beaded satin ballet flats styles, but I refuse to spend 40 dollars or more on something that isn't sturdy and will look dated very soon. Payless is the perfect way to get the cuteness on a real life budget. I also love to get a couple pair of plain white canvas sneakers there every summer for kicking around in.

For our anniversary, we wanted to go somewhere nice, but also somewhere that my husband could have a really good vegetarian meal that wasn't pasta so we chose brunch at the Lake Park Bistro. It is such a lovely place! It has an almost cottagey feel with pretty views and lots of open green space around. The food was scrumptious, the atmosphere was relaxed and the service was divine.
What would have made it better would have been chairs that were a bit more comfortable and perhaps a tiny bit less crowding of the tables. We wanted an intimate brunch, but not with the people at the next table. I think there was a large party there that day as well, though, so perhaps that is why the tables were slightly crowded together.

How can noodles with all kinds of toppings go wrong? I love that you can customize your dish to suit your tastes. My favorite is the WI mac and cheese with broccoli and chicken breast. My husband loves the Japanese pan noodles with tofu.
If you are a vegetarian or trying to include some meatless meals, Noodles makes it easy to get something on the go that isn't a complete nutritional wasteland.

I have been really pleased with all of the services i have gotten at the Penney's salon. I started going there because I had a few miserable hair weeks and something had. to. be. done. and I didn't know where else to go. Honestly, I figured "it's Penney's. it can't be that awful!" And it was actually fabulous!
The salon is simple and not a luxury spa escape but it was clean and modern and what counts is that they can do some good hair there. And for reasonable prices, too!

Sometimes the store can be a bit overwhelming, but they have such a variety of yummy items. They have all the tried and true products we have all become addicted to, and often at great sale prices. And now they carry other lines that aren't found all over the place yet, the kind of stuff that is in a lot of fashion magazines.
The downside is that sometimes you fall in love with a scent. You use it every day. Your morning begins with that scent, and alas, it is discontinued and you have to find a new scent to fall in love with.

I have been a fan of Michael's since high school, longer than I would like to admit! They really have a huge variety of craft stuff here from the latest trendy crafts, to tried and true standbys, huge wedding and floral sections and their frames department. I adore their cardmaking supplies and could easily blow hundreds of dollars there on their incredible stickers and papers.
They have a good yarn section, if it is a bit chaotic. Their floral area is always intriguing.
And this is odd, but the one on Brown Deer always smells like cinnamon sticks, which I find to be very pleasant. But the scent does permeate the whole store and I can never figure out if it's a product or what. If you are sensitive to scents then you should probably know this. It's like a special crafty scent.

No more carrying around a scrap of fabric hoping you will find the right trim somewhere in town, they have a ton of trims and beads and ribbons right there in store. They have fabulous seasonal accessories for inside and outside the home as well.
The yarn section is pretty impressive in most stores as well, with national brands as well as their own line of specialty yarns.
The one thing they don't always have is knowledge. Perhaps because they are so large and spread out over many different craft areas, you can't always find someone who has an answer to any specific questions. Sometimes the person at the cutting table can be somewhat careless in cutting delicate fabrics, some of those edges are mighty jagged!
