I don't read a lot of sci-fi. I've only gone in here a couple of times with my LOTR fanatic friends. The place always struck me as very high- the ceiling is higher than most other stores. The people who work here are dorks (I say that as a compliment). I have picked up several Calvin and Hobbes here; they have a decent selection of comic books. And of course, action figures.

Golden Carriage sells delicious cakes for 60 to 75 cents a slice. They also sell many types of bread (hot dogs, bread with corn and mayonnaise, bread with egg and ham, etc.) that cost less than a dollar each. In addition, they sell coffee and many cold drinks (cold milk tea, fruit drinks, each cup around $1.50). This is one of my favorite breakfast places when I want a break from bacons and eggs or donuts; very inexpensive, very good service.

It is true that the basement is not as good as the upstairs restaurant. But the setting is a bit more eloquent than upstairs; the prices are a bit higher. The food is still very good: beef with tomato is excellent and costs about four dollars, I think. The service is wonderful- it's so easy sharing a joke with the chefs and waiters. They're very friendly.

The NYU bookstore is ridiculous. They tell you they have sales at the beginning of each term...but they lie. You can find your textbooks for much cheaper at Strand's or any marketplace online. Don't get your textbooks here! They also give you low prices when you try to sell your textbooks back to them.

Century 21 is where I go to get most of my shirts, pants, and ties. The prices are very inexpensive compared to other stores. However, there are always A LOT of people here, so the experience might get a bit frustrating. Downstairs, they sell a variety of home goods, bed and bath, and electronics.

I've never once gotten good service from this place. Everytime, I've had to wait forever just to talk to a salesrep. And they're always giving me a bad attitude as if I can't afford whatever I'm asking them about. But I have to admit that the prices in this department store is more expensive than in others- don't expect to find great sales here.

Regardless of how great the food was, I'm giving it one star because of the terrible service we received. We walked in, asked for a table, they told us to wait as there were no tables available. Then, a bunch of caucasians walked in and they were served right away. There were three of us and three of them and as far as I was concerned, Yeah Shang Hai does not deal with reservations. I thought this was ridiculous and completely rascist, but...we stayed anyway because we had searced the entire area and we had waited. Finally, we got seated. We ordered. One of the dishes (squid, I think) tasted funky. So we asked to order something else with the same price. We order a shrimp and egg dish...and there was like a total of three shrimps! We told them about this and they said, "if you don't like it, eat somewhere else."

J and R is a great electronics/music store. They have virtually everything you need and with great selections: digi cams, pcs, monitors, iPods, headphones, stereos, etc. Their music selection is also unbelievably good (two flights) with a video selection in the lower floor. Also, things are a lot cheaper in J and R than in other NYC electronic stores like the Wiz and Radio Shack.

i have been shopping at dee and dee for many years. this is a good store to go to if you're in a hurry and need to pick something up: snacks, clothes, home goods, school supplies. things are very inexpensive. the quality of things isn't that great, but what do you expect from a notebook that costs only fifty cents? service is only so-so.
