The Alhambra discount warehouse is not listed on Judy's book for some reason, but just atop the University Village is this great little nook completely devoted to sales! The prices come down significantly from their main store on out of season items. The t-shirt collection, in my opinion, is a godsend. In the colder months you can always later cotton tanks and tees and in the summer, one of their sleeveless tanks will do great. What sells these tees for me are the colors- not just your regular gray, black, and blue as most Seattle-items stick to, but rather these very vivid colors that will definitely stand out in any wardrobe, despite being in design just a tee-shirt. Great quality materials ensure long-life for these shirts and the sale prices will have you walking out with more than one. Go in and see what you can find!

I have the pleasure of living a block away from La Creme beauty and like to sneak in every once in the while. The owner is very nice and keeps her store in great order. The products here range from La Luz bath products to Voluspa candles with so much more in between. The lingerie assortment is great with a lot of Hanky Panky brand items. The fragrances really stand out in this beauty supply boutique. I am not sure of the brand names but they are not you ordinary department store countertop perfumes.... rather, vintage, classic, and unique combinations of musks and light flowers really give this boutique it's stand-out product. The prices are reasonable, reflecting the quality products accurately. Right off a Metro 74 busstop on 55th-- indulge and wander in one day.

Piattis in the University Village does not mess with the tried and true classic recipes of Italian ambiance and cooking. The restaurant is fancy enough with the usual warm colors, simple platewear and friendly servers. The owners of Piatti are not looking to put a modern, hip twist on the romantic Italian restaurant formula. Rather, they depend on the clean, elegant atmosphere of Tuscan colors, building design, and fireplaces. The food, in this sense, is very similar- great Italian recipes without funkification. The vegetable pasta selections are the best, in my opinion. Make sure you dine here during the warm summer months as the small patio is perfect to watch the evening settle in. Enjoy!

I have never been into this store so why would I want to review it? Because even though they have an appointment only policy, Madina Vadache is the best window-shopping I've done in my entire life. Specializing in the most glamorous, elegant, chic wedding dresses in the are as well as evening wear, the Vadace is my dream come true (well, probably never come true because it's so freakin' expensive). There wedding dresses range from spectacularly odd (bedecked in feathers and ruffles) to the utmost classic designs (strapless cream gowns). If I win the lottery and Medina Vadache is still around years down the road when I get hitched, you bet my dress will be from here. I already have my top three choices picked out, just by window shopping. :-)

Cereal. Check. Diet Coke. Check. Booze. Check. The Mix ice cream. CHECK! The Mix ice cream parlor is a great Ave. tradition enjoyed by locals and students alike (drunkards and potheads included). Choose from the eight ice cream flavors and then add in a smorgisboard of toppings ranging from classic sprinkles to TWIX bars. If you get lucky, you might even be able to mix in the toppings yourself behind the counter. Great prices, great ice cream. Next time you're in need of a sugar buzz, brave the lines and eat some truly customized ice cream.

The University Village Bartell Drugstore is the best in the bunch. The sugar-free candy selection far surpasses any grocery store's and the cosmetic aisles are always chock full of discounted brands. The vitamin selection is also very impressive and once again, always on sale. The staff here is so friendly and since I work in the Village many have come to recognize other staff members and I. Great big store, no big clutter.

Overall, a good theatre, but the atmosphere was literally very stuffy! I was boiling in my seat during Miss Saigon (the play was good, but the male lead was a shrieking nightmare!). I was dismayed to see so many of the audience members in shorts and casual tee's. Seems like with the price of tickets you should at least make an effort to have a classy evening instead of just wandering in off the street (shopping bags and all). Great shows keep touring, so watch the newspapers for showtimes of upcoming shows.

For instance, the website advertises their Warhol and Lichtenstein collection. However, they only have one or two works of each artist in reality. Wait for traveling exhibits and if you can, go on a Thursday (the first of the month) and get in free. The building is big but sparse in actual art and I do believe they are already remodeling again! Why spend more money on renovation when you can spend that hard-earned funding on drawing more great art to the museum (echoing the last Van Gogh success).

Just got back from the traveling-Lichtenstein exhibit. Fantastic! Earlier this year they had a Lynn Hershman exhibit up and the works were very provocative. Compared to the Seattle Art museum downtown the Henry is the superlative choice. While the Art museum has a more varied collection, the Henry will more often bring in the better traveling exhibits. And on top of that, it's FREE for UW students!

Student shopping for textbooks at the U-bookstore? DO NOT PASS GO! DO NOT COLLECT 200$
The textbook wing of the U-bookstore is, first and foremost, a monopoly: Professors can determine whether or not to allow buyback, and it is often hard to find a text of the correct edition/color/whatever online that isn't as expensive as the U-bookstore issue ones. Pray for a merciful professor who is sympathetic to his students. And, never take a class with Joseph Weis unless you're into pissing your money away.
