Ciao Bella is the perfect romantic, neighbor-hood nook. The large fireplace in the middle of the restaurant casts such sultry lights and shadows throughout the restaurant to create a true ambiance. The wait staff are personable and friendly, even if the kitchen is backed up with orders. Last time I dined here I was referred to as "bella" throughout the course of the meal--- what girl would not enjoy that? The menu is a typical Italian one but at Ciao Bella you have the added guarantee that anything you order will be well-prepared and flavorful. The portion sizes are just right--- not skimpy as in high-end downtown restaurants and not excessive as in some casual Italian restaurants. You can always expect to take a little of that pasta home with you.

Fran's Chocolates in the University Village is by far the greatest thing to happen to employees of this shopping mall. Have a bad day at work? I treat myself to a small chocolate from Fran's! The chocolate here has such a high-quality that the flavors sometimes take you by surprise... as consumers we are all so used to the flat, stale milk chocolate used in candy bars, energy bars, and such. This dark chocolate, however, is what chocolate should be all about. Chocolate should be about indulging, not about stuffing covering it with all sorts of sugars and disguising the flavors. Dark chocolate is something to be savored. Have a bad day at work? Use my Fran's method and let the endorphins soar.

Like another poster, I have always been a great fan of Starwood hotels. They are clean, convenient, accessible, and always on the hipper side. The W hotel in Seattle is the pride of the branch, in my opinion. The decor can be a little forced-modernist, but otherwise, the setting mixes casual with trendy flavors. The bar-scene is always the place to be. The rooms are small but clean and the beds are stacked high with fluffy duvets and such. Great downtown location and near all the hot shops and venues. Give it a try!

I just returned from viewing the dress rehearsal of the Pacific Northwest Ballet's "Sleeping Beauty" and I was blown away by the artistic creation that was at hand. The costumes were brilliantly colored, ethereal in some cases, and flowed well with the dancers. The sets were large and anything but static... the trees moved and the dancers flew through them. The dancers danced their hearts out in the most graceful, exquisite production of artistic movement I have ever witnessed. Perfect for little ones if they can sit through a two hour plus show-- a great dance sequence between two cats had all the children screeching in delight. Take the family and enjoy this lush display of art.

I wish I had the money to be able to afford the lingerie at Zovo in the University Village but unfortunately I am still regulated to Victoria's Secret. Guilty walks throughout the store, however, have really been all that is needed to help rate this store as a glamorous, sophisticated lingerie boutique. The lines they carry are high-quality and ultra-chic so I do not mind the prices at all. When I save up, I'll definely become a frequent shopper here. Check out the non-lingerie goodies also! Lotions, candles, a few beauty products... every girl needs to treat herself now and then.

For I love this place beyond words! Lucy Activewear in the University Village is the best activewear store I have seen in a long-time. They have a great yoga-wear selection and you're guaranteed to find the perfect sports bra within seconds there. It is the sales that really get me though. They always have a clearance rack chock full of amazing deals. For example, I could not but help try on these great lounge wear pants despite the whopping price of 80 dollars. They were so comfortable it was hard to part with them even at that price, but I let them go and walked out of the store empty-handed. A month later I check back in and they are on the sale rack for half the price. Still too much, in my opinion. But a few weeks later they are now 19.99. Ka-ching! Shop the sale racks and you'll be as happy as I was pattering about my apartment in these great pants at such an amazing price. Enjoy!

Okay. So it's Abercrombie and Fitch. We all know they cater to a select group of people. So much so that (from the mouth of an actual employee) if an attractive woman walks in the store and appears to be the right size with the correct facial/hair features, a working employee will actually approach her with an in-store application for a job. I'm not going to argue that the store is racist, sexist etc... this is not the business review anybody wants to read. Abercrombie and Fitch have a select range of clothing... embellished tanks for outrageous prices (60 bucks for a spaghetti strap with a few rhinestones!) to logo-smeared track pants and hoodies. Like the color black? You won't find it here, according to am employee, they are not allowed to carry items in the color black (uh??????????????!). The Ezra clothing line is attempting to be a high-fashion line with jean prices reaching in the upper hundreds. But this is Abercrombie! The pre-teens that walk in with their mothers should not be wearing 180 buck jeans! Not that their parent's pocketbooks would be stretched by such a purchase. If you do go into Abercrombie, just had to the back and see if they have a few items on sale. Otherwise, just walk on by my friends, but do take a peak at the half-naked bulky men and stick-girls they make stand near the doors to promote.... um... okay so I don't know what they're promoting.... probably a forewarning to "get a job elsewhere, look what they made me do" .

The Key Arena, despite it's lame-o name, is a great venue for both sports and music entertainment. I have seen the arena as a Sonics basketball court, an ice rink and a packed mega-concert stage. The versatility of the Arena allows it to remain the number one large-seating venue in the area. Just look at the deteriorating Tacoma Dome... The revamp of the Key is a benefit to the city and now draws such great acts as the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, the Killers etc.. Seats are surprisingly comfortable and plenty of room is given. The sound system is top-notch and makes any sports or entertainment event an interactive one.

Seattle is not known for it's plethora of Mexican restaurants. We may have a few Taco del Mars and Chipotles running about, but other than that, you're subjected to places like Azteca---- Mexican food as Americanized as we can make it! I appreciate the price and the quick service, but I do not appreciate poor quality meat and vegetables that should've been thrown out days ago. Azteca is a chain of restaurants and it should be treated as such; minimizing output costs and hoping the masses will not notice, therefore increasing incoming profits. Wait till Seattle opens up a few more authentic Mexican restaurants and pass on this chain.

When I was younger my mother used to take me to All for Kid's Books and Music several times a month to let me loose amongst the shelves and shelves of books. I really appreciate my mother for instilling the importance of reading in my life and All for Kid's was a great tool for doing so. The bookstore is chock full of new classics (Harry Potter displays included), yet still stocked with old classics and series (Nancy Drew, Boxcar Children, Goosebumps!). They organize the store well and it is easy to find an age/reading level appropriate book. All for Kid's is independently owned, no big chain logos here, and therefore the store actually has a bit of personality and class to it. Great childhood experience!
