I love the Pink Door, especially in the summer time when you can sit out on the patio and watch the ferries. Whether you're inside or out though you'll find a wonderfully cozy and charming atmosphere and great food and service. The location is prime - who doesn't love the quaint Post Alley? Look for the Pink Door (creative name, huh?) and you're there!

The main reason to go to Ruby's Diner is because you're with your kids and you know the trains scooting around overhead will keep them busy for longer than a nanosecond. Other than that - there are better choices for a meal at the Alderwood mall. Not to say that Ruby's is "bad" - it's not. The food is ok, the service is ok and the restaurant is attractive in a 50's red and shiny chrome kind of way. They do have great old fashioned sodas and shakes, and for that reason I'm giving them 3 stars rather than 2.

I love the chocolate at Fran's - a cute little shop in the University Village. For Easter, I splurged and went here for little treats to fill my kids' Easter baskets. They had these pretty chocolate eggs wrapped in pastel foil, nestled in natural grass and tied with a pretty lavender ribbon. Of course - the kids didn't appreciate *good* chocolate versus the grocery store stuff, but I did when I needed a little pick me up after their bed time! Their chocolate tastes European - it's very creamy and rich, just as chocolate should be.
I haven't tried the ice cream here - sounds good though!

I discovered Peet's on a recent trip to California - and then I discovered that we have them here! Happy day! They made a really good cup of coffee and the employees are pleasant and friendly. Cool! If you buy their coffee beans by the pound, they will grind them specifically to what kind of coffee filter you use. (I have a gold basket filter, thankyouverymuch.) And then they'll give you a free cup of coffee.

Don't give away the secret cafe in the market - the Sound View is hidden underneath the bustle of the market and not many tourists ever find it. This is a great stop for lunch - they have good salads and sandwiches. Nothing is spectacular, but there IS the view and the fact that you can sit and enjoy your food with a book or magazine in relative quiet.

The Spanish Table is a fun stop on Western Avenue at Pike's Place Market. They have all kinds of interesting things that are hard to find elsewhere - Spanish pottery, paella pans, a true Spanish deli, where you can savor some of their unique foods. And don't forget the wine! They have an extensive collection of Spanish wine (as you might expect) - prices are about what you'd expect for a very specialty store.

I've loved this store since it was the Admiral Thriftway. The Metropolitan Market is pretty similar, if even more upscale. This is a fun place to shop - expect to pay a bit more than at a more mainstream grocery store, but you can also expect a gorgeous, high quality produce selection, fabulous cheeses, an extensive wine collection and every so often they have gourmet cooking classes right in the middle of the store.

There, I said it. I love Starbucks. They make a GOOD cup of coffee and it's consistent no matter which of the gazillion different stores you happen to pop into. My personal favorite store is the one attached to Benaroya Hall - on the 2nd Avenue side. The employees there are so nice and they seem to consistently produce great drinks. My current favorites are the cinammon dulce latte and the caramel machiatto.

I have a ring that has three sapphires, each surrounded by tiny diamonds. My husband bought it for me while we were on a trip in the Caribbean. After we'd been home a couple of months one of the tiny diamonds fell out. Ack! I took it into Ben Bridge to see if they could fix it. The salesperson I got was very nice and helpful and didn't seem annoyed at all that I wasn't there to *buy* something. And - they did an excellent job putting new diamond in my ring!

This is a great place to get fresh, great tasting Mexican "fast food" - it's definitely several notches above Taco Bell or Taco Time. They use very fresh ingredients and nothing is greasy or fatty. I love that fresh flavor that their food has, and I will eat here any day over the mexican fast food alternatives.
