One of the best dive bars in Seattle 6/9/2005

The Canterbury is definitely a neighborhood bar at its finest. Right when you walk in, you are greeted by a full suit of armor (Canterbury - Chaucer - England...ringing a bell?). The front area is smoke free for those of you who aren't brave enough to enter the main seating area fittingly titled with a small piece of cardboard "Chain Smoking Area" and a skull and xbones. They have recently cleaned the ventilation system though, and the stink of cigarettes is nowhere near as bad as it used to be in there. The two main seating areas have service, and you can always go to the bar and order straight from the bartender. The waitresses are always very friendly there and always give good service. Make sure to tip them well. If you don't feel like sitting without any distractions, you can go to the back area of the bar that has 3 pool tables, pinball, golden tee, shuffleboard and a plasma tv. highly recommended for a casual, cheap night out with VERY stiff mixed drinks. more
