Stay Somewhere Else! 3/31/2006

Sight unseen we booked a room here for our first Galveston vaction and we were sorely disappointed-actually horrified would be a better term. When we arrived they wanted payment in full on the spot which I suppose some places do this but I have never been to a place requiring payment up front-until now that is. After our 32 hour drive to get here we just wanted a place to sleep and shower. So, how was the view you ask? Looking out the window we see we have a view of the railroad tracks a few feet away. We thought nothing of it, thinking they were probably abandoned. I mean nobody would put a hotel practically on top of useable railroad tracks right??? Wrong-long trains went by four times in two hours shaking the entire building. While I unloaded our vehicle, my husband showered. I was walking around in barefoot when I noticed my feet were sticky. My feet were black! My husband said it was from walking outside and back-I didn't agree and neither did he once he looked at his freshly showered feet-black! Now my husband grew up in Texas so he knows the a filthy floor is a breeding ground for cockroaches but so far we hadn't see one..... We did a the "towel test" on the floor in which you swipe a white towel against the carpet-it came out black in every spot we tested. Then I opened a dresser drawer........ Very very large brown ugly ugly ugly FLYING cockroaches flew out. Not being bug people, my daughter and I scream, automatically jumping on the bed for cover. My husband begins throwing all our belongings out the front door toward the car, shaking them out and just throwing them in back while daughter and I stand screaming as the big ugly brown insect flys about the room and we duck for cover..... We convinced management to refund our money as there is no possible way we could have stayed that night. Pros: *Dirt cheap-but there is a reason for this! *Came with hairdryer and coffeemaker Drawbacks: *Filthy *Roaches *No pool *Practically on top of Train Tracks *Long Trains go by Often *Building shakes and you have to yell at each other when trains go by *Far away from anything *Filthy Comforters Under $400.00 a week-If you can afford an extra couple hundred it would be worth it for peace of mind to stay elsewhere unless bugs, trains and dirt don't bother you.
