In the heart of the Bowery restaurant furniture & lighting district, Satellite Records is easy to walk right past. The place is mainly frequented by DJs, turntablists, producers, and avid techno afficionados. Satellite Records has a selection of turntables, mixers, and all sorts of DJ equipment, as well as an expansive collection of house, drum and bass, electronica, etc. records. I like to stop by and grab flyers for upcoming raves, parties, and club events from the shelf at the front door of the store.

It's fun to look around this store, but generally not worth coming out with a hole in your pocket after a purchase. Also, the staff is not very friendly or helpful.

There's nothing that separates Joyce Leslie from Forever 21, LVL X, or any of a number of young women's clothing stores. That being said, the clothes are trendy albeit average, and the prices are very reasonable. The store is best suited for young women, 18-25. This is a good place to find "clubbing" style clothes, but I'd recommend buying the rest of your wardrobe elsewhere. In its favor, the Joyce Leslie on University Place has quite a selection, with 2 floors of apparel, lingerie, and accessories.

Starbucks is everywhere. If you stand at certain intersections in the city (cough cough Astor Place!), you are within view of 3 different Starbucks! Starbucks is a great place to grab a cup of coffee, eat a sandwich, catch up with friends or colleagues, study, use wireless internet, read the newspaper, or simply just relax. A decade ago, few of us could imagine paying upwards of $3 for a cup of coffee, but nowadays, for many of us, a cup of Starbucks has become a necessity in order to start the day right.

My favorite Thai food restaurant in the city was formerly Spice, but after my first visit to Lemongrass Grill a couple of months ago, my favorite is not so clear anymore! What makes the decision even harder is that Spice and Lemongrass Grill are both merely blocks away from each other! You can't go wrong at Lemongrass Grill. As another poster commented, the chicken satay with peanut sauce is superb, and the Pad Thai is delicious. All in all, Lemongrass has great Thai food, at very affordable prices.

Josie Woods: the quintessential NYU hangout. Although some may argue that NYU has no campus community, a night at Josie Woods will make you feel like you're at the bar on the corner of your state school's campus, for better or for worse. Expect a mainly NYU crowd, as well as a few older men who can't get enough of drunk NYU girls. Oh, and lots of cheap beer. And don't quote me on this, but it's beyond easy to get in with sketchy IDs.

The Hook is impossible to find. I've been to the venue about five times and can still never seem to find my way there. About once a month, rave promoters in the city will throw an underground rave here. The entrance fees are usually kept to a minimum. This is a basic and grimy venue where anything goes. Expect lots of jaded ravers who believe the glory days of the rave ended with the '90s, as well as lots of newcomers, candy kids draped in plastic beads. I love this place. Some of the best times of my life have happened at raves at The Hook. You'd be surprised at how big the rave community still is in NYC.. it's not dead yet :) So put on your UFO pants and bring your glowsticks, and party the night away at The Hook!!

I celebrated my birthday here with my college roommates two years ago. In mid-December, the place was incredibly crowded, but what else do you expect in Times Square around Christmas time? The food was delicious, and I had a good time. Red Lobster's seafood has always been a favorite of mine. My only complaint is the $100+ bill that I had to foot at the end of the night, having stupidly agreed to treat my three friends for the night. Watch the prices at this one.

Although I believe Jamba Juice started out in California, the Jamba Juice Corporation has quickly begun to infiltrate New York City. On a pleasant spring or summer day, Jamba Juice is the perfect place to head for a refreshing snack. The smoothies are absolutely delicious, and there are many flavors and varieties to choose from. You can also add a shot, of energy or healthy nutrients, to your drink. A+ for AMAZING!

Although the wonderful St. Mark's location in the Village closed for good this January, I have been checking their website religiously for updates and finally, some news! A new NY Milkshake & Co. will be opening at Dag Hammarskjöld Park on 47th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue, across the street from the United Nations. It will be opening in May 2006, meaning that I WILL be able to get my fix of the best milkshakes EVER this summer! You'll never want an ordinary milkshake again after heading to NY Milkshake & Co. Oh, and they've also got the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever. I love NY Milkshake & Co.. don't think I can ever get enough of this place! I am so happy to see that it's not gone for good!
