This store is really neat. They have lots of high-quality real wood furniture that has not been finished. You pick out the piece of furniture that you want and then you can pick out how you want to stain or paint it yourself. If you don't want to do it that way, you can have the folks at Beach House do the painting or staining for you. They really know what they are doing and they are a good resource for any questions that you might have regarding how to paint or stain your furniture.
Besides the fact that you can stain the furniture the way you want, the best thing is that the furniture is really sturdy and high quality instead of a lot of that particle board stuff you get at other places.

I have also seen the corsages and boutennieres that they do for proms and other formal events and they are really pretty. One of the things that I like is that they have a big assortment of flowers and not just the usuals like roses and carnations. They have beautiful flowers that I have never even seen or heard of before.

Stinn's jewelery has been a part of the Central Coast for a long time. They just recently moved from Pismo Beach down to Santa Maria. The really neat thing about Stinn is the original and custom jewelry. Anything that you see in that store is something that you will never see again at another jewelry store. They will also custom make jewelry for you. If there is something that you want them to make, they will work on it with you until it is just how you want it. You can tell that their quality is much better than the chain stores. One of the things that I noticed when looking at wedding bands was that the gold was much thicker and less likely to wear down than the bands you get at the chain stores. Their prices are higher than what you would pay at a chain store, but you are getting much higher quality as well.

United Rentals has a lot of items that you can rent like large, expensive tools or even utility trailers and moving trucks. We came upon them when our moving truck rental fell-through and we had to find something last minute. We tried all the major places (Budget, U-Haul, Ryder) and none of them had a truck available. We decided just to give United Rentals a try as a last resort and were thrilled to find out that they had a moving truck available. They also had a utility trailer so that we could move even more stuff. Their prices were way cheaper than the major national places and the people were a lot nicer to deal with. They were a little more lenient - we didn't have to worry about getting the truck back to them at a "to the minute" time - as long as we were within reason, it was fine. Now we go to United Rentals first if we need something like a trailer or van.

Iversen Motors has been around for a long time. I can remember going there with my parents when I was a kid and they were looking to buy a car. They have a really big selection of used and new cars. They have a nice showroom and lot. The thing that I like the most is that they don't have a lot of high-pressure sales. I am a person who would much rather browse by myself and seek a salesperson's help when I am ready. They allowed me to do that without having a salesman looking over my shoulder. I have bought two used cars from Iversen's and always felt like I got a fair deal.

California Blonde is a really fun store where the inventory is always changing. It is full of gift items that are really original and unique. They sell things like dancing hula lamps, funky margarita glasses, etc. They even sell really original hand-made (by local person) clothes and corsets. This is definitely one of those places where you never know what they are going to have, so if you see something that you want - you have to pick it up, or it might not be there when you come back. If you are looking for an original gift for someone that has everything, you are pretty much guaranteed to find it here.

Personally, I think that the cookies are a little bit dry and would prefer to go around the corner to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I guess it just depends on if you like a moist or a dry cookie. It's a matter of personal preference. I obviously would like to support a local business person and buy the Cowboy Cookie, which I do sometimes, but it's just not the best around. It's still good, it's just not the best.

They also have pretty good sales occasionally. They have a pretty big selection of Christian jewelry, t-shirts, sweatshirts and other items. They have a large selection of Christian CDs and DVDs as well. I like to go here for gifts for people because they have beautiful wall-hangings, frames and other decorative items for the home. The atmosphere is really relaxing and quiet with just some mellow music playing in the background. I would highly recommend The Parable.

This place has the most amazing bread that I have ever tasted. A lot of stores sell their bread and it is really good, but you haven't really enjoyed it unless you have bought it fresh from San Luis Sourdough. They sell loaves, rolls and all kinds of other sourdough bread products (breadsticks, etc.). It is a real treat to get freshly made bread like this. I like it that I can just swing by on my way home and pick up fresh bread for dinner that tastes like I slaved over the oven all day making it myself. It doesn't have a processed taste at all - it really tastes homemade.

The Madonna Inn is such a neat hotel. They offer so much. First off, the hotel is really unique. Each room has a different theme. For example, one is like a cave with a waterfall and rock theme and one is a Victorian theme. There are several other themes in between. You can check out the website and see pictures of each of the rooms. They also have a bakery and coffee shop with the most amazing cakes you have ever tasted. They are huge and the slices that they give you are huge. The pink champagne cake is the best. They also have a steakhouse called the Gold Rush and it is pretty good too. It is a lot of fun to come and check out the Madonna Inn lobby during Christmas time. They are famous for their beautiful Christmas decorations.
