I have been going to this Chevron station ever since I got my driver's license. The location is convenient because it is near the freeway. They have a nice food mart with fresh food (which can be rare at a gas station) and they have great prices on their fountain sodas. I have never dealt with anybody rude working there - in all of the years that I have been going, I have always been treated well. The gas prices are usually about the same as everywhere else in Santa Maria, sometimes even a bit cheaper. I also like the fact that every Tuesday is customer appreciation day and they give a couple cents off per gallon on the gas.

I have used Costco tire center in the past, but they stopped carrying the tires that I like. So, I gave Big Brand Tire a try and I was really impressed. They had a large selection of tires for my car, including less expensive tires than what Costco sold. They were really nice and they were competitive with their pricing by offering to match any competitor's price. They also were very fast at installing my new tires. I did not have to wait long at all. I just had them give me a call on my cell when they were done and I was on my way. I will definitely be going back again for several reasons: price, selection and service.

I recently saw Dr. Franta at the Shepherd Eye Center and was really impressed. I had never been to him before, but I had an emergency with an eye infection and had to see somebody. I was really pleasantly surprised by him. He was very kind, gentle and thorough. He took his time and did not try to hurry me out the door. The thing that I was most impressed with was that he asked me about my prescription insurance plan to make sure that I would be able to afford the medication he was prescribing because he would find another more affordable one if I could not afford it. I will definitely go to him next time I have a problem with my eye.

Adkins Dance Center is a great place to introduce your child to dance and get them involved in lessons from a young age. The instructors are really good at what they do and they are great with working with the children. Some of the types of dance taught are ballet, jazz and hip-hop. The kids have a blast and they always put on a great recital. They teach anywhere from beginners to advanced - so it is not just for the little kids. It is a great place where a child can start young and kid of "grow up" in the dance that they choose.

For one thing, they have a ton of styles and colors - from ultra-modern to classic to old-fashioned Victorian. They also have a ton of different sizes that are difficult to find at other shops. If you can't find exactly what you want, they will custom make it for you so that you have just exactly the size and style that you want. They also have a variety of mats for matting the picture into the frame. They really have an eye for what looks good and have good recommendations for getting just the look you want.

This is the only estate jewelry shop around, which makes it kind of a novelty. I like the fact that you can go in and you will see jewelry that is of the most recent styles, but also lots of cool retro and vintage jewelry as well. It is all pretty high quality stuff. It is neat to go in and look for something special for yourself or for a gift because they have so many unique pieces. I am a huge fan or art deco style jewelry and this is one of the only places besides ebay that I have been able to find it.
The place is run by a really friendly husband and wife and they make it a pleasant place to shop. I love shopping at stores where the owners are local and involved in the running of their own business.

This is a really unique theater. It is the only theater in the area that shows foreign films and a lot of the independent non-mainstream films. I have actually come across some of my favorite movies by going to the Palm. For example, I never heard of the movie "Being John Malkovich" or "Made", but just saw that they were at the Palm and checked them out -they ended up being a couple of my favorite movies. The Palm is not the fanciest theater at all - the halls are narrow and the theater is small with no stadium seating. You won't get the amenities that you get at the newer theaters, but it is actually kind of nice for a change.

This is a neat little bookstore. They have some new stuff, but pretty much everything else is used. I like the fact that there area constantly new used books coming in, so you never know what might show up. The prices are really good and it is entertaining just to go in and look around and browse. Another neat thing that they do is that they usually have a couple of big boxes of books outside the store that have books for free in them. Obviously they aren't the newest bestsellers or anything, but you can sometimes find some really neat things in there and it's free.

This is an awesome bike shop for the whole family. It is run by a guy who is really into cycling and knows everything about it. Therefore, he carries quality items and has answers to whatever questions you might have. The store has a variety of bikes from in-expensive to the top of the line. They have bikes for kids and bikes for adults. Not only do they have bikes, but they have all of the accessories for dressing them up or increasing performance. You can also get bicycling clothes/workout wear and helmets. Pretty much, you don't have to go anywhere else but Art's for all of your bicycling needs.

This is such a beautiful vineyard. We have had company Christmas parties here for a couple of years and it is always a big hit. The vineyard is out in the country behind San Luis Obispo and there is really nothing else around it. It has a really country feel to it. At Christmas time, they decorate everything with white lights and they have live music playing softly in the background. It is really a relaxing atmosphere - not to mention that they have great wine for sale as well!
