Alex and I discovered the Staff of Life when we were searching for alternatives to going to Safeway during the terrible negotiation problems a few years back. While they don't have all the staples that we were used to (read processed food), we made out pretty well. And we certainly ate a lot healthier. Although, I'm not sure the next time I will buy tofurkey, I am pretty stuck on the Chik Patties, and Amy's Pizzas. The prices are a bit higher, but that is to be expected.

I avoided going to the Buttery for a long time because I imagined everything would be coated in butter. Perhaps that is the case, but the treats at the Buttery are pretty darn good. Not as good as Kelly's French Bakery, but still a great place to go when you want some baked goods, or sandwiches.
Alex and my personal favs are the eclairs and the tiramisu, which comes with a little chocolate stick on top.

Alex and I used to snicker at Charlie Hong Kong whenever we went by. My gosh, how much more could you poke fun of Asian people in this town! But then we had a friend come to Santa Cruz who had heard about it and wanted to try it out. So off we went.
Despite the name, CHK has pretty good food. Vietnamese fusion, or something like that, CHK uses organic and fresh ingredients. The food has great flavor, although it can get overwhelming towards the end.
They have a tiny parking lot, and you may end up driving around in search of a spot. Also, it can get busy so seating can be an issue as well.

I went to Mobo's after hearing a friend rave about it. He promised me that I would never forget the experience if I gave it a shot. Boy was he right! The sushi there has these little extras that give them great flavor. From crushed macadamia nuts, to mizo like sauce drizzled on top, their sushi is in a league of its own. Be warned, lines can take a while on their busy nights. After all, it's good sushi!

David's Bridal was my starting point for wedding dress shopping. I knew nothing about wedding dresses, and had a great experience at the shop. You need to make an appointment, and they match you up with your own salesperson. They give you everything you need, from undergarments to shoes, and are pretty helpful. The dresses are not of the highest quality, but are ok. If you plan on buying your dress there, I would wait for the sales which occur every few months. Also, you can get a fifty off coupon if you visit their booth at wedding fairs, and sign up to go in during the week.

I've had some pretty bad experiences with other companies before coming to t-mobile. Even though they say it's "no mobile," I haven't found this to be the case in Seattle. I get reception almost everywhere I go. I love the customer service, and their little extras that make life easier. For example, I can call in to see how many minutes I have left. When I was with AT&T, I couldn't do that over the phone. Rather, they forced me to log in online.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but do sometimes hit Starbucks for their Tazo shaken ice tea lemonade, which is pretty darn good. Over the last few years, they've been adding more and more food to accompany their drinks. The sandwiches are pretty good, and their fruit and cheese platter hits the spot when you just want a little bit of something special for your day.

Ann Taylor Loft in Northgate Mall is one of my go to places when I need to find clothes for work. First, they have a petite section--which is a must for short, little me. Next, about a quarter of their store--in the back--has sales clothes. I used to try getting away with buying cheaper clothing at places like the Limited, but found that shelling out the extra bucks at the Loft is worth it because my clothes last so much longer.

The first time I bit into a Krispy Kreme donut, I closed my eyes and just savored the moment. It just melted away in my mouth. And don't even get me started on the ones that come fresh out of the conveyor belt. Krispy Kremes are something that is best done in groups--hopefully they will keep you from eating too much. My all time favs are the plain (ahh, sugar coated) and chocolate (sugar coated and then chocolate coated).

It may be a matter of perception, but everytime I walked into the Kmart in Capitola, I kept asking myself where are the deals at. Yes, they had stuff that I couldn't get anywhere else. Since there were not many, if any, competitive stores like Target around. But I kept getting the feeling that they were charging high prices for okay goods. After all, there is practically no competition. Things may have changed since I was living there a few years back, so I may be wrong. But I doubt it.
