After running from a dive motel at 5 in the morning during our honeymoon, Alex and I were starved. Alex spotted lights on at the Paradise Cafe while driving through Port Orford, OR. In this small town cafe, we were treated to amazing customer service, and had a fantastic feast that was also wallet friendly. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, and couldn't stop marveling at how huge the biscuits were. Easily twice the size of any biscuit I've ever seen, with delicious melted cheese, eggs, and thinly sliced mouth-watering ham, this sandwich was one of the bests I've ever had. Alex ordered one of their breakfast specials, and received hearty portions of crisp, eggs, and other fixings. Amazingly, the portions were so large, that he could not finish his plate. A rarity indeed. If you're looking for some good down home food, stop by the Paradise Cafe--you won't be disappointed. Beware, this is not a diet friendly eatery. Come ready to dig in.

So the building was rather dated. And the comforter looked about ten years old. And the "closet" was shorter than I was, and crooked. But when you have a dog, are traveling late at night, and just want somewhere to stay without a hassle, the Travelodge in Medford works. Yeah, it was old and slight run down. But Alex, dog, and I were exhausted and needed somewhere easy to crash. There is a clerk on duty at night, who was very friendly even though we stumbled in at midnight. No hassles, just a warm bed to sleep in--even if it was slightly lumpy.

Imagine renting a moving truck and not having to worry about whether or not the truck will actually show up the day it's supposed to. Imagine dealing with friendly customer service people. And imagine professionalism and a fantastic product from a truck rental company.
We got all that and more when we rented a truck with Budget for a one way trip from San Francisco to Seattle. The prices were very comparable to Uhaul, probably within 30 bucks, and everything else was superior. From the friendly sales people, to the cushy seats that are adjustable, I loved my experience with Budget.

Okay, I admit it. My fiance and I are very much attached to our dogs. And at one point, I was baking them fresh dog treats. Needless to say, we always worried when leaving them. In the past, we've had a dog sitter at our home, but we haven't made such connections since moving to the Seattle area. So we had to...board them!
Fearful and worried, we contacted the Downtown Dog Lounge. They were absolutely wonderful. We had been in a few times prior buying fun treats, and liked how friendly the staff was. Like all dogs, our girls had to have temperament tests, and we had to show that their shots were up to date. The staff made recommendations/boarding decisions that were based on how our dogs interacted with others and alleviated all the anxieties that my fiance and I had, and were so understanding of our situation. We will definitely take them to the Dog Lounge the next time we have to leave town.

Okay, I understand the place can be daunting. Especially if you don't speak the language and are pretty not adventurous. However, for people willing to try something new (sorry, I'm miffed at a narrow minded post I just read) Genki has the best strawberry nutella crepes to offer. They're made to order so the crepes come to you crispy and warm. And how could you ever go wrong with strawberry and nutella? Prices are low, but parking and seating can be a pain

Every time I go to Caffe Greco, it is packed. The lines go out of the door. There are great desserts and drinks to be had. If you're bored you can people watch. It's strange, but there is also a sense of privacy in all of the bustle. One note of caution is that parking in North Beach is absolutely horrendous. Come early, or be prepared to drive around.

One of the joys of being a younger sister is that I get to benefit from the food wisdom of my older sisters. While visiting the city, my sister took me to one of her go to restaurants--Houston's. Wow! Not only was the service prompt and funny, all of the food I had was fantastic. We started out with artichoke dip that was one of the best ever. I then proceeded to baby back ribs that we so tender, I almost didn't even have to chew. Absolutely wonderful. I also loved their little shoe string french fries, and cabbage coleslaw. A great place to go if you want some good grub, but not so good if you're watching the waist line.

In the midst of wedding planning, I am furiously trying to figure out ways to make my dollar go further. A friend suggested that I scout out the Flower Mart. I am so glad that I took her advice--this time.
A wholesale flower market for people in the business, it is open to the public for limited hours during the day. If you know someone who has a badge, bring them with you so that you can get the better deals, and access more stores. However, I still found some extremely great values even though I'm just a common person. There is a huge variety of beautiful blooming flowers in the different fronts, and there seems to be a current emphasis on orchids in a number of places.
Parking can be a bit steep. It's about 75 cents per 15 minutes. If you're lucky, you can grab one of the free two hour spots across the street.

I was reading a post on JB about Cafe Besalu and decided that I had to try it. Oh my gosh, boy was the food there good!
On a Sunday morning, Alex and I dragged our doggies for a brisk walk to the Cafe. After devouring our quiches and croissants, I was glad that we had to burn some calories walking back. There is no dearth of butter in the food here!
I still need to go back a few more times; there were just too many interesting treats for me to try in one sitting. From ginger biscuits to chocolate croissants, the offerings at Cafe Besalu makes my mouth water.
In typical man style, Alex complained about how much more food he could have gotten at a cruddy diner. However, it is very interesting to note that he went back on his own the following weekend while I was at a wedding the in Bay Area. Hmmmm...

Stonestown Galleria is one of the things I miss about the city. I moved to Seattle about a year ago, and have not found anything that quite fills its shoes. Not too say there aren't any great malls in Seattle, they're just not the same.
As I write this post, I'm in SF wrapping up some last minute wedding plans, and of course, made time to shop in Stonestown. In less than hour, I left triumphant. From cute, glittery flip flops that I bought at Macy's for just 9 bucks, to a pair of slacks and simple tee that I got at Banana on reduction, I walked away feeling triumphant.
The mall is rather small, but there are a number of stores that cater to my shopping needs. From Gap to Bebe to Nine West and Eddie Bauer, Guess, and Crate and Barrel there are lots of store to wander in and out of looking for treasures.
