Regal Crossgates is what I would consider to be the premier update mega movie plex in the area. Since they closed the other theater located in Crossgates, it has become the movie theater to go to to see your popular hits.
They offer stadium seating, which is nice compared to how the other theater in the mall was. The disadvantage to this seating however is that during extremely popular showings of movies, you need to get there early to find a good seat. I once saw the remake of "Dawn of the Dead" on opening night, and our group of four could not find a seat in the upper level. We were forced to sit on the bottom flat level and lean back to stare upwards at the screen.
Regal, as a chain, has high prices. Expect to pay $9.xx on a weekend night. The advantage to it being a Regal theater though is that they have their Regal Rewards Card. You get points for every show you see and concession item you buy. With 40 points (4 ticket purchases) you get a free medium popcorn. Though it's not the best benefit in the world, it is a nice treat especially if you are someone who does not normally purchase concession items.

Considering all of the other options available to people in the Troy area, Uncle Sam's Lanes is not exactly a bad option. Since they made the billiards hall into a homeless shelter, bowling is the only indoor sporty option on a weekend night.
Uncle Sam's is your regular bowling alley. They have about 30 lanes and plenty of balls. It's not in the newest condition, but at the same time it's not horribly ratty either. Be sure to bring hand cleaner along with you though.
I have purchased food at their concession stand, and the prices are very reasonable. Although their pizza is a bit greasy, the rest of the food seems to be good quality fast food fare.

I have gone to Holmes and Watson several times. The very first time I went, it was for a banquet taking place on their second floor. That time was a disappointment because even though the food was of a decent quality, it was bland and did not have any personality.
Subsequent visits to Holmes and Watson have been much more satisfactory. They have a decent sized menu with lots of options. Their menu has a lot of sandwich selections as well as cooked meal options. Their lighter faire, such as salads is also wonderful. I have ordered a chef's salad and received a plate of salad covered in cold cuts, which though not necessarily healthy was fulling and really a decent surprise.
One of the down sides to Holmes and Watson though is that their meals do not include fries, but potato chips. That really is a shame though because they serve some really good waffle fries. You just have to order them separately.

Fresno's is a nice concept. A chain that offers south western food at a good price. However, it seems that whenever I ave gone to this restaurant I have been disappointed.
There was the time on Father's Day that my family waited over an hour for our food to be served. Or the times I have gone with about groups of 10 -20 and had food served out to the group over the course of half an hour.
On top of the general quality of service, there is the topic of the quality of food. As someone who is a fan of southwestern food, I will often attempt my own fajitas, quesadillas, nachos, etc. When I have ordered similar things at Fresno's I have found the quality something comparable to what I can do at home. I am not a chef nor do I have a lot of experience cooking. I feel that when I go to a Southwestern restaurant I have southwestern food. I have some friends who originally come from Texas, and both of them despise Fresno's because they feel it is not authentic south western quality food. In fact, they both feel that it is very bad.

DeFazio's has a lot to offer the real pizza connoisseur. As someone who grew up in New York City, I have become accustomed to good tasting pizza. Upon moving to Troy, I was disappointed in the quality of most of the pizza that was available. DeFazio's is an exception to that statement.
Their pizzas have a heavenly crust, and their sauce is made with good seasonings so that you actually feel that you are eating true Italian pizza. Their toppings are high quality and are offered in many traditional Italian styles. If you ever have a chance to taste their homemade pasta, I recommend that as well.

I had gone to this place several times when it was the Troy Pub. At that point in time their beer was good and so was their food. However, when they switched to Brown's Brewing Company, their menu changed and I feel that their selection and quality has gone down, while what has remained the same is just their atmosphere and their beer.
I would only recommend going to Brown's Brewery if you are a beer drinker. They will have a lot to offer you if you go there for that. However, if you are looking for good food, I recommend you go somewhere else that has more selection and better quality.

UPDATE: THIS CAMPUS IS ABOUT TO BECOME A DRY CAMPUS - INCLUDING OFF CAMPUS FRAT HOUSES - BEWARE
There is a reason RPI is a top-ranking engineering school. They place so many of their resources into Engineering and strictly engineering that the other areas that the school has available as majors suffer. Students in non-engineering majors often have trouble finding jobs after they graduate. Part of the reason for that is because of the Career Development Center's focus on strictly engineering. They will work hard to provide opportunities for engineers, but rarely do they bring in companies wanting to hire science, architecture, IT, or humanities majors.
Additionally, despite these disparities in quality, the tuition has gone up continually ever year that I have been here. If as a prospective student your student aid package leaves your family tight on cash, realize that the amount they or you will have to come up with out of pocket will only increase. Also, if you are going to be having siblings going to college after you, and your parents will have to suddenly start paying 2 tuitions at once, do NOT expect RPI to give you any additional financial aid to account for the extra money your family is paying.

My first experience at Plum Blossom was really unique experience. The atmosphere inside is very high class, with oriental vases and ornate woodwork. When I went there they were able to seat my large group very quickly, and serve us with efficiency.
Our meal came with soup and tea. It was a nice addition to what we had. When we received our meals they were very large portions placed upon large oval plates. I ordered beef with broccoli and it was of better quality than what you would get at fast food places.
Overall, a meal at Plum Blossom will run you $15. That price wasn't really worth the meal to me, but for some the high class dining and quality is worth that price.

Ted's Fish Fry is a unique place in the Troy area. It is reminiscent of an outdoor ice cream parlor, because when you go in you have to go to the left side to the ordering area. The employees are all enclosed behind glass windows, and you can see them preparing the food. They are able to get your order prepared quickly and efficiently.
Ted's food is generally good quality fried food. They have fish fries, clams, chicken tenders, etc. I have only ordered their chicken tenders there, but I have always been pleased with them. Their milkshakes are all very heavenly.
You can expect to pay about $8 for a meal with coleslaw and fries. You can definitely get more food for your money else where, but it won't be the same.

When I was in High School, Amadeo's was the nearby Pizza Parlor that people went to for lunch or to hang out. It was really unfortunate at the time because there was not enough seating for the demand.
Unfortunately, like all pizza places, Amadeos will serve you pizza by the slice by reheating cold pizza. That is my main complaint about this establishment.
If you order a whole pizza and get it, you will find it to be of decent quality with good taste and plenty of cheese.
