The Pasta Bowl has a little storefront, but be sure to stop in. The pasta is amazing! All the pastas are very inexpensive (less than $8 a piece) for a serving that will allow you to take home some leftovers. The bruschetta and the caesar salad are excellent (although a little heavy on the black pepper), and the pasta dishes are pretty varied. The conchiglie gorgonzola is creamy but still light, and very delicious. They serve very cheap wines too.... about $5 a glass. Yummy!

The people who work at Stamp On In are the nicest people ever! They are helpful without being pushy, and know when to leave you alone when you're just looking. Stamp On In also has sales going all the time, as well as really cute examples of cards you can make. The prices are reasonable, and teachers get a discount. During my last visit they were selling the sample cards they made for only $1 each... how great is that? They have stamps, ink pads, paper, cards, envelopes, gel pens, brads, etc, plus classes. They're a great value and a good resource for crafting needs.

I went into Crossroads Trading Company on Clark Street with the hope of finding some cute jeans like the ones in the store window, and I was very disappointed. The items in the windows seem like they're the best ones in the store... Many items are a little too worn-looking, and the prices aren't that fabulous. For example, I was looking for some designer jeans, but found mostly acid-washed type classic cut Gap jeans... for about $20! I did find one pair of Seven for All Mankind jeans, but they had a huge hole in the crotch and were still $65! I've heard the other location is better, but I don't know if I'd even try it.

Sister Arts Studio is tucked back on Wrightwood off of Halsted, so it's not something you'd easily walk past daily, but it's a great stop for cute craft ideas! The windows look inviting, full of yarn or other craft supplies. They sell craft sets with all the items you need included, plus fun items you can buy individually. They also offer knitting classes and will host parties, and the environment is so relaxing. The staff is very knowledgeable as well. A great little craft store in the heart of Lincoln Park!

Bourgeois Pig is a nice alternative to Starbucks and Caribou, if you're looking for a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. They're very close to the DePaul campus and the Fullerton el stop, and open late into the night. Their coffee is great, and they do a variety of hot beverages. It's a good place to go for a snack as well, since they have ice cream, wonderful cookies, and organic-y sandwiches. It's a nice change of pace!

I love going to Einstein Bagels for a leisurely breakfast. Their bagels are very tasty and pretty hearty, so a bagel with cream cheese can really tide you over. My favorite is the cinnamon sugar bagel with lite plain cream cheese... delish! The coffee is great too, especially the hazelnut kind. They also have fruit and fruit juices. I've never tried the sandwiches, so I'll have to experience that, but at least ways go for a great, inexpensive breakfast!

Climate has great and unique gifts for a variety of people. I love stopping in the store since the merchandise changes pretty frequently, and they always have cute seasonal items. Their card selection is great and unique, although I wish they had more cards. The best items are the baby gifts, like a little frog onesie and bib. Each of the two locations (one on Clark in Lincoln Park, one on Broadway in Lakeview) carry some different merchandise, too, so there's lots of variety between the two stores.

I went to Gracie's on Webster for the first time this weekend, and I was impressed. We went for a late dinner (around 10:30pm) and they were still serving food, which was great. The buffalo chicken sandwich was excellent, as were the fries that accompanied the sandwich. A bottle of Corona was $5, which I thought was a little expensive considering the sandwiches were only about $8. There was a DJ going already, but there was a very laid-back feel to the place. I'll definitely go back, and maybe try something else in their upscale bar food-type menu.

I've purchased popcorn for gifts a couple of times from Garrett, and I don't understand what the big deal is. The lines are horribly long at the Michigan Avenue location - around the holidays I once waited in line for over an hour! (I didn't have a choice... I had to bring the gift to a party that night.) People will wait that long and just buy a little one-serving bag, which I think is crazy! The cheese popcorn is a little greasy and VERY cheesy, but the caramel corn is good. Try the caramel corn with nuts mixed in .... big bucks, but people love it! Try the locations in the Loop to save yourself a little time.

I love going to babyGap for gifts for friends and relatives who are having babies. They have a great selection of basics and more fashionable items. The baby items range from 0 months to 5 years, and at the high end of the size range, children can wear either baby or kids Gap clothing (the baby clothes accommodate a diaper and are a little shorter than kids clothes). The onesies and similar newborn items make great gifts, and it's easy to get a good deal on their items. Watch for items to go on sale - they usually start at about 30% off!
