Whether you are looking to buy a bike or just rent one for a little bit, Gregg's Greenlake Cycle is definitely the place to go. The store is located a block away from Greenlake. It's comprised of 3 departments, cycle sales, snowboard & skate sales, and rentals. As the name suggests, the store is mainly focused in cycling. They have one of the largest selections along with the most knowledgeable staff around. Their snowboard and skate department is mediocre... nothing to brag home about.
What I personally like about Gregg's Greenlake Cycle is their rental department. Nothing beats a renting a bike or a pair of rollerblades and cruising around Greenlake on a sunny summer day.

Borseno's Barber Shop is a locally owned barber shop in Seattle. It opened its first location in U-District approximately 5 years ago.
At a quick glance, the shop may give off the wrong impression with its industrial/punk decorations, alternative music, and tattooed/pierced stylists, but don't let that fool you... they are truly professionals when it comes to their quality of work and customer service. The combination definitely makes the experience unique and worthwile.
The shop has only 3 seats available, with 2 stylists on staff. Reservations are recommended, but drop-ins are available too.
A typical guy's hair cut runs about $17 dollars, plus gratuity. And I believe the girl's hair cut start around $24. They also do all sorts of coloring, etc...

If you live in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, then there is no doubt you have driven by All Seasons Cleaners on E Olive street. It is very conveniently located one block off Broadway in an old glass building.
At first glance, you may be very tempted to use this dry cleaner because of their convenient location and parking, but that is reason for their poor customer service. Without asking for permission, they wrote my name on the insides of my clothes using permanent marker. On one batch of my shirts, they even spelled my name wrong. To top it off, the black ink bled on a couple of shirts such that it was visible from the outside, and I had to throw them away. When I brought the issue to their attention, they denied any responsibility and did not offer to compensate for the shirt.
I would not suggest using All Seasons Cleaners, even if they were the last dry cleaners on Earth.

Platinum Records is located on E Pike St, one block East of Broadway on Capitol Hill. They specialize in vinyl records, DJ equipment, and PA systems.
For vinyl records, they have of the largest selection in Seattle of Top 40, Hip Hop, and Dance. There really is no comparison, you might be able to find smaller shops that specialize in a more specific genre, but overall, I think Platinum takes the cake. Although you should be prepared to spend some time in there, as they don't have a computer inventory system, and stuff is usually grouped by labels. They also have a decent selection of underground CD's and DVD's that you would not find in a typical store.
I would personally stay away from their DJ equipment, as you can easily find the same gear for cheaper prices either online or at Guitar Center. However, I would definitely check out their PA system rentals for your next social/work events.

Bonzai is a trendy little restaurant down in Pioneer Square. As the name suggests, it serves Asian (mostly Japanese) food. Anyone familiar with Wasabi Bistro up in Belltown should recognize similarity in their style, menus selection, and price range because they share the same ownership and target audience.
Their food definitely pricier than your average sushi bar, but they also do have one of the more creative/non-traditional menus, eg. "Las Vegas Roll", a deep fried eel, crab, avocado, cream cheese sushi roll. A full menu can be found on their website at http://www.bonzaibistro.com/web0804/sushi.html.
Bonzai is very conveniently located within 5-10 minute walking distance of Safeco and Qwest Field, so definitely make it one of your stops when down in the Pioneer Square area.

Second Time Around Records is on The Ave, about 2 blocks south of 45th. They specialize in the purchase and sale of old music (records, cassette, CD), video (VHS, DVD), video games (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, etc...), and some music / video equipment. Similar to a pawn shop, they have a lot of used inventory at a discounted price.
So if you are looking for a cheap or discontinued item, try your luck at Second Time Around... but do expect to spend sometime in the store as they have a lot of stuff to dig through, and do not expect a great deal of customer service.

Scarecrow is U-District's very own local video store. They are mostly known for their eclectic movie selection, not found at your corporate video stores. Their inventory includes a large selection of foreign films (grouped by country), anime, adult, and your typical blockbuster movies. They also bolster one of the more knowledgeable staff, who always seem eager to help.
If you ever get bored of the movie selection at your corporate video stores, stop by Scarecrow and expand your movie experience.
Note: Please pay attention to their strict due dates, because they have very pricey late fees.
