I agree that it used to be the best taiwanese restaurant in town. Yet from my experience, the new chef clearly have not yet mastered all those dishes written on their walls. Another thing, Mandarine Wok is considerate enough to offer two different menus, one in Mandarin and the other in English. Strongly recommend those who are used to order from the English menu have a try of those Chinese dishes for a change (that is, of course, you have sources to translate those Chinese characters into English for you). They're utterly different.

Nevertheless, the food is far from authentic. American-style Chinese restaurant indeed it is. Chef specials are worth trying, some of them could be surprisingly good.

I would think KAMAKURA is the best Japanese restaurant in Champaign. The price of their lunch specials are especially appealing. Their sushi, especially those with fish and seafood, I'd have to say, taste nothing like authentic Japanese sushi. Their terriyaki chicken and tempura (I consider them the safest choices when visiting a Japanese restaurant for the first time) are above average. In a small town like Champaign, Kamakura does its best.

I always have to remind myself not to go to Four Season House again. The buffet is always a quick solution, providing variety and convenience. Yet strangely, almost without exception, having a meal there always upset my stomach. Perhaps it's just me, yet I came to doubt whether their dishes are fresh and clean. Nevertheless, I like this Mongolian BBQ thing they have there--basically you mix your own choice of vegetables, meats, and sauces, and the chef will cook them for you.
