I am so lucky that I live in a city with Bliss. What a great spa day. My company gave me a day of facial, massage, pedicure and manicure at Bliss. I visited the location on 49th Street & Lexington, although they have a few other locations in the city. There's one even in London! I was impressed from the minute I walked in. Great customer service, clean and comfortable lockers and changing spaces. The lounge area where you wait before your services is wonderful. I could have sat there all day! They offer delicious cheeses, olives, cucumbers and little cookies and brownies along with fresh tea or water to nibble while you wait.
You won't wait long though! I had a spectacular massage (I've been carrying a ton of tension in my shoulders and know it's gone! Until I go back to work that is! :) Then I had a wonderful facial with Emmie...she took the time to fully explain everything she was doing, gave me suggestions on what I could do differently and even recommended some products to add to my routine (All of which were conveniently waiting for me at the counter when I checked out, although there was no pressure to buy and I decided not to.) The manicure and pedicure was nice, but nothing special or unique, although the technician (Monique) was nice and did a good job, I think next time I'd save my money and spend it on a longer massage or another service.
Bliss has a huge menu of spa options and they will tailor it to fit your needs. There prices are high though, and I was only able to go because I was using gift certificates. It is a great 'special event' place or if you just want to do something a little extra special for yourself. As soon as I can afford it, I will definitely be back.

I love Linda at Skillman Nails. This is a great neighborhood place if you need a simple manicure and pedicure. 15 bucks total gets you both. For me, a $50 manicure lasts just as long as a $6 dollar one, so I'll keep the extra change thank you! Linda is the owner and is almost always there (she does waxing and more complex manicures.) She also has a staff of 3 or 4 other women who do mani/pedis. Sunday and Saturday seem to be their busiest days, so either go early, or bring a book. You'll be glad you did.

I just enjoyed a lovely early morning at Diedrich's Coffee. This particular location is in the middle fo a quiet neighborhood. They have a large outdoor seating area and cozy indoor area. Good prices, and a wide variety of food. Pet and kid friendly, so if you're planning on getting work done, bring your headphones. But a great way to start or end your day! {Please note the business name is actually DIEDRICH'S)

The Cherry Creek Arts Festival is an impressive collection of beautiful, interesting, and straight out bizarre art. There is literally something for everyone, and although you could spend thousands of dollars on some pieces, there are affordable works too. From photographers, jewelry makers and some guy who makes what look like rocket replicas out of vacuum engines, there are some really cool things at this year's festival. Wear your walking shoes and bring water - the July 4th weekend is hardly ever cool and balmy! I recommend going early in the morning (they open at 10am to beat the crowds. If you can, check out Shelby Keefe whose scenes of Denver are really cool. Her painting of a Denver neighborhood is featured as this year's poster. Absolutely check this out.

When I found out that Tattered Cover had moved from its flagship location in Cherry Creek I was surprised. How could it possibly be as cool a place to hang out, find books and get delicious coffee? But the new location in the old Lowenstein Theater near City Park delivers on the expectations of the old. It's a more spacious setting - you don't feel jammed in with the books, and they've maintained the visual aspects of the theater which I loved as a child. The old balcony spaces are now private reading areas! The coffee space is much smaller than it was in Cherry Creek, but hopefully you're not there to just buy coffee anyway. Happy Reading!

I have been getting my glasses and going for checkups at Union Square for about 5 years. I love their collection of funky frames and the sales staff is honest in their feedback about what looks good on you. They clearly explain charges, and if you get contacts from them you can go back for free solution. My only problem with them came earlier this year during the Bausch & Lomb scare with the cleaning solution that was causing eye infections. I had been given this solution with my last order. The only way I new to stop using it was by reading about it - no one from the doctor's office or the sales staff notified me. I feel like they should have been on the phone to every client who received the solution, instead of me having to come in on my own. Overall, good for frame selection, but be a well informed consumer before you start a relationship with these guys.

This review is about the Stop&Shop in Sunnyside, NY off of Northern Boulevard:
There is a Stop & Shop a short walk from my apartment and I've been going there every other week for years. I avoid their busy times by going on Friday night or early Saturday morning - the aisles aren't obstacle courses during those times. They have a good produce section, although not the best selection I've seen, but good for basics. The clerks for the most part are friendly. If you go, closely monitor the check out process, I have found several times that the item scans at a higher price than what is listed on the shelf. But if you catch it the item is free so it's worth paying attention. You will generally have to bag your own groceries if you want to get out of there quickly, but I don't mind doing this since i have a particular way I like to bag things. Overall this is a good, clean grocery store where you can find just about anything you need.

Whether you're looking for a blooming violet for your grandmother, or a nice orchid for your office, a trip to the Violet Showcase will not disapoint. The mom and pop store (literally, husband and wife have owned and run the store for nearly 28 years) has everything you could possibly need for your home growing. Stands, supplies, and tips and advice. They spend time with each customer, and even on a busy day you feel quite at home. They also offer shipping of starting plants and supplies. I know people who have made 8 hour drives just to purchase plants at this store. [ Note that the store's name is The Violet Showcase.]

Katagiri is a gem. It is a Japanese grocery store, carrying just about every Japanese food item you can think of, and many that you've never heard of. Don't be intimdated by the Japanese packaging (most of is imported from Japan)...just about every product has label in English that explains what it is and it's nutritional values. Fish days are Monday and Thursday, so go on those days for the freshest fish. They also sell delicious sushi and snacks if you want to pick up a quick nosh instead of fixing it yourself. The staff is helpful but will also let you walk the aisles for as long as you like. The Q32 bus stops right in front, or it's just a couple blocks up from the Lexington Avenue Subway stop.

I have been a member of FAPC since 1999. It has a wonderful young adults program - infact a majority of the 2,500+ members are under 40! Wonderful music, and some of the most amazing preachers I've ever heard. We have had a turn over of pastoral staff over the past year which has been a difficult adjustment but the programs are still going at this amazing church. 2 years ago they did a massive renovation that now can house Christian Education programs, nursery school, and there is a homeless shelter that operates out of the basement 365 days a year. There is a smaller chapel which would be perfect location for a wedding. The building's steeple was the tallest point in Manhattan before the Brooklyn Bridge was built, and as soon as you enter you know this place is steeped in history. I prefer the 9:30am service for the music (plus it gets crowded at the 11am). I highly recommend if you are looking for a church home.
