I have a good friend who's sister was in the hospital experiencing a very difficult childbirth. My friend sent her sister flowers by this company, and they were either never delivered or it got delivered to the wrong person. Anyway her sister never got the flowers. When my friend called the florist to ask what could be done, the clerk laughed at her and said "it wasn't her problem" and actually blamed the bedridden sister for losing the flowers! When my friend asked for her money back, they refused.
I understand hospitals are crazy places and it's quite likely the thing got mis-delivered or taken by someone else, but it struck me as unprofessional that they treated my friend so poorly and then were unwilling to do anything to rectify the situation. My parents own a florist and they always replace a lost delivery, no questions asked. The customer is always happy, and they remember good service.
I guess Flowers by the Bay forgot what good customer service should be, and they certainly must not know about Judy's Book!

I have studied with Joanna Beckson for nearly 2 years now and highly recommend her to any actor or person interested in becoming an actor. JoAnna teaches the Meisner method of acting - a stronger reliance on instincts in behavior than on other forms of study. (For example, you don't have to have experienced child birth in order to accurately portray a woman giving birth on stage or film.)
Joanna is a wonderful mentor and will challenge you to do your best. She takes loads of time with every single student, and her classes constantly fill up. She teaches a great Sit-Com Acting course as well as year long Meisner courses.
If you've ever dreamed of moving to NYC and becoming an actor, put this fantastic coach on your list!

I enjoy Uptown. Delicious mixed drinks, nice food, and the service is attentive without being Upper Eastside obnoxious. They have outside seating, or bar service in addition to their booths and sit down areas. I didn't know about their 1/2 price martinis, will definitely have to take advantage of that! A good place for a nightcap, or a nice way to start a date.

I love the TKTS Booth in Times Square (there's also a location at South Street Seaport. The booth moved from it's normal location due to construction, so for the next few months look for it's temporary location just outside the New York Marriott Marquis hotel on West 46th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. There is one window that exclusively offers plays, the other windows offer musicals and plays.
Their hours are:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
for 8pm perfs: 3pm - 8pm
Wednesdays and Saturdays
for 2pm matinées: 10am - 2pm
Sundays for matinees:
11am - 3pm
Sundays for evening perfs:
3pm TO CLOSING
If you're lucky you an get tickets to just about any show - the more popular Broadway musicals run out first. There are always staff on hand to give you suggestions on what play to see if you're not sure which one to select.

I just discovered the new Apple Store on 5th Avenue. It has a huge glass 'box' on the ground level that encases a spiral staircase that leads you underground to the huge store. Everything is laid out simply and clean, and I really like the natural light coming in. This particular location on 5th Avenue is open 24 hours a day! On Friday nights they bring in a DJ and you can rock out to music while you shop. The sales staff will let you explore to your hearts content but are readily available when you need help. My next computer will definitely be a Mac, and it will absolutely be purchased from this store!

I never thought I'd be typing these words in the same sentence as "hotel in New York City". This is a 'residence' hotel...where the rooms are basically one foot bigger than a double bed and you share bathroom facilities with your neighbors. There is no elevator in this building, so bring your hiking shoes. The hallways are very narrow, as in I don't know what would have happened if someone had been coming the other way. However it was quiet, each room as it's own window AC unit and a TV hangs from the wall. The bathrooms were clean, but it's a good idea to plan an early shower or late at night to beat the rush. This particular hotel is a block from a subway that will take you directly to midtown Manhattan and the theater district. Your best deal is Sunday night - 60 bucks for the room!
Basically if you come to NYC for the ambiance, this is not the place to stay. It's a place to sleep and that's about it. But odds are you're not spending that much time in your room anyway, and this Upper West Side neighborhood is very safe with loads of shopping and restaurants in the neighborhood. This is a good choice for travelers on a budget who don't mind navigating the subway system to get around.

I love Slate. I use it as my venue for my birthday party with friends. People can play pool or ping pong, or sit back in the comfortable lounge areas and just eat and talk. It's also a good happy hour place with coworkers. The drinks are a little pricey, but I really like the ambiance and service. I didn't know about their weekday lunch specials! Great tip!

My business has a York installed AC unit for our floors in a building we rent. Over the past 6 months the unit has required thousands and thousands of dollars of repairs, replacements and upgrades. Last week a pipe broke in half due to the poor installation that was done on a compressor only 9 months ago. Today, after 'working' for 4 hours, the repairman 'discovered' a sliced wire. There was no signs of corrosion so I believe it was cut accidentally during the repair process and the guy didn't' want to admit it.
The unit was working last week, so no way was this wire cut earlier than that. Then he tried to charge my company for 16 hours of work, when it is unlikely he spent more than 8 total. Unfortunately my company is stuck with this unit until we can figure out how to replace it. But I urge anyone looking for residential or commercial service on their air conditioner to avoid York like the plague.
Sorry to be so angry in this review, but no business person or home owner should be treated the way we have been treated by this company.

If Bed Bath & Beyond didn't exist, I probably wouldn't have credit card debt. This the most entertaining store I've been in for a long time. Of course, I don't know many people who are entertained by kitchen gadgets, bathroom stuff and lamps. They have a fantastic registry service which is easy to use, and if you ever have to return anything purchased off your registry you can get cash if you don't want store credit.
They send out lots of those $5 off and 20% off coupons, so if you don't have one now wait for it. Or go check your mailbox right now, I"m sure you have one. No, it's okay, go check.
Still nothing? That's odd, did you really look? Go ahead, I'll wait.
See? I told you it'd be there eventually.
Anyway this is a fun store, great for gift ideas and their online ordering is a breeze. I restocked my company's kitchen supplies all from BB&B and my employees are thrilled.
Make sure to check out their clearance items and wait for sales, it's worth the wait. Happy Shopping!

I few years ago I was trying to figure out my path as a writer so I took a couple courses at GWW - An intro to screen writing and a sketch writing class. Both had fun, interesting teachers (who no longer teach there) and the classes were a nice size. Not to big, not too small. We had assignments each week and a structured way of getting and giving feedback.
The Workshop seems like a great idea for a new writer or someone who has never studied a particular form before. However if you're thinking you're going to break into the industry through this school, you're going to be disappointed. This is for people who think they might one day want to be professional writers but who aren't 100% sure. But it's a fun way to spend a few hundred dollars and it will help you figure out what kind of writing you want to pursue.
