I ate at Edwards Mill Bar & Grill during a business trip. It was the closest restaurant to our hotel (Ramada Inn at Blue Ridge) but we still had to take a 5 minute cab ride to get to it. The service is pleasant and they offer non smoking and smoking sections. The good was fine, considering I was starving, but nothing exciting and imaginative. It's standard bar food - sandwiches, salads, hamburgers, etc. - and was decent. Certainly not the worst restaurant I've been too, but not the best either. There are many other places to eat in Raleigh and my overall impression of this place was that it could have been set in any town in America. Nothing special about it stood out in my mind which is why I'm giving it an "okay" rating. More information can be foudn at this http://www.edwardsmill.com/raleigh.restaurants/

If you're in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood outside of Boston, the first item on your list for food probably isn't burritos. But if it is, the Purple Cactus would be on the top.
Purple Cactus offers a variety of wraps, burritos and salads and while the add ons (meat, sour cream, etc.) can get pricey, it's worth it. It's so hard to find health fast food and I really enjoyed a corn and squash wrap when I ate there last. The service is fast and the place is bright and clean. The ingredients are fresh and I especially appreciated that all meals are served on real plates. Just because it's fast doesn't mean it can't feel like a meal at home! Enjoy!
Unfortunately Purple Cactus doesn't have a website yet, but any search engine pulls up their address and some interesting blog comments from 'foodies' in the area.

I recently used Metuchen Limo & Taxi Service from the Metuchen train station to go to a hotel in NJ. I was impressed with the ease of use! The service is directly across the street from the train station, no confusing signs or wondering where to stand to get a taxi. There was a driver ready right away so I was off the train and into a car in no time. The driver was safe and helpful and had interested information about the neighborhood. It was a wonderful way to start my weekend and the next time I travel to the Metuchen/Edison area, I will definitely use Metuchen Limo & Taxi again! I spent the weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott at Edison/Woodbridge. It was a nice, clean, good sized hotel with excellent amenities. I particularly appreciated the free wireless internet :)
I stayed as part of a wedding and got a very affordable rate. The breakfast buffet is nice - if you add $10 to your room rate you get a coupon for 4 breakfasts . Make sure to do that, it's definitely worth it. They don't have a lot of seating for breakfast so come early or wait until the morning rush on the weekends. I imagine it's quieter during the week.
There is a pool on site (no lifeguard) and helpful staff. Both times I called before check in, the staff gave me excellent advice on how to get there and what taxi service to call. (The Courtyard Marriott website says that the closest train station is Metropark. Technically Metuchen is closer and will cost less in a cab, so if you are coming from the airport or elsewhere via train, use the Metuchen station stop.)
I highly recommend this location for any wedding or business hotel needs you may have. Next time I need to be in the Edison/Woodbridge area, I will definitely stay here again. For more information, here is their http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/EWRED

Spot is a great hangout in the Eastman School of Music area. Students, professors, performers and locals call this place home at least one day a week. They have a large menu of coffee drinks, smoothies and teas as well as a kitchen in the back that makes light meals.
Spot is built in an old car dealership and there are still touches of the auto world in the art deco design that Spot maintained. The space is large and open and is good for studying, talking to your friends or a good way to end a date. In addition to the tables and chairs, there is a great area in the back with couches and arm chairs. There's also an upstairs seating area.
The only hang up is that the ordering process is a bit confused. Drinks come out out of order and there is general confusion about who ordered what. On the bright side, the prices seem a bit cheaper than other coffee houses in the area.
Check out the spot if you're in the neighborhood, I just might go today! Here's the http://www.spotcoffee.com/chevy.html

Moore Brothers Wine Company is new to the NYC area. They have a couple other stores in DE and NJ, but a few months ago opened their NY location. Moore Brothers works with a select group of wineries in Germany, France, Spain and the US. Their small selection allows them to really know the wine, they work directly with the wine makers and visit them on a regular basis to make sure quality is maintained.
The staff members really know their stuff, and can make recommendations of particular wines based on what you are planning to serve. They don't pressure you to by the most expensive bottle either. Delivery is available and you can also order online.
They have a tasting area in the back of the store so you can try before you buy, and upstairs is their events space where they do larger tastings, often with the wine maker himself present to answer questions.
A really unique aspect of this store is that they have a play area for kids! Coloring books, toys, etc. so mom and dad can shop while the kids play.
The wine is boxed up in nice carrying cases, so you can go strait from store to party without having to worry about a gift bag. They offer special collections of 6 or 12 bottles of their best wines if you're looking for a spectacular gift for the wine connoisseur on your list.
I will definitely visit Moore Brothers again for all my wine needs! Here is their http://www.wineaccess.com/splash/moorebrothers/

Whenever I visit my sister in Rochester, we always stop by Starry Nites. They have wide selection of delicious coffees, teas and other specialty drinks, as well as a great menu if you're in the mood for a light meal. The Chai Tea latte is one of the best I've had anywhere - not too sweet, not too spicy. I'm going back later today for their fall special of "pumpkin spice" coffee.
The staff is friendly and helpful - both to newcomers as well as their regulars. They know people by name which is so rare these days! The seating is comfortable and spacious - you won't feel like you're sitting in the lap of the patron next to you. Their website also has some great information about coffee in general - you may learn something about that espresso you're drinking you never knew before!
If you're tired of the Starbucks/Dunkin' Donuts scene, make sure to check out Starry Nites! Their http://www.starrynitescafe.com/ can be found here.

I just visited this restaurant/deli and was impressed.
The food is fresh and assembled right before you. If you are getting a sandwich you can choose from any bread combination or have it done as a wrap. They have a wide variety of soups, salads and of course sandwiches. I recommend the Jimmy - fried chicken with melted provolone and grilled peppers and red onions. Yum!!
Lenny's caters to the breakfast and lunch crowd so if you want to avoid lines go for a late breakfast 9:30-11, or wait until after 2pm for lunch because otherwise this place is a madhouse. But that is always a good sign. I found their prices to be a little high and the menu maybe just a little too complex, but overall very very good and I will certainly go again.
They also have business catering and delivery (with a 7 dollar minimum). You can go to their other locations at:
489 Columbus Avenue
302 Columbus Avenue
1481 Second Avenue
16 West 23rd Street
60 West 48th Street
1024 2nd Avenue

The Nasher Art Gallery just off the campus of Duke University is an absolutely spectacular art gallery. When I visited only their permanent collection was open, but despite not getting to see everything, I was incredibly impressed. The permanent collection has an amazing assembly of art. Items from Greek and Roman times, portraits from the 1800s and even 'modern' art. The descriptions of items are clear and easy to read and there's some interactive pieces that might interest the kids.
If you're going to the Nasher, make a point of having a meal at the Cafe. The menu features local, organic products from local farms. The price range for food is a down right bargain when compared to most museum menu prices: Soups $4; Salads $6 - $8; Sandwiches $6; Plates $7 - $12; Sweets $4; Wine by the glass & carafe $5 - $10. More info is available at this http://www.nasher.duke.edu/museum_cafe.php#cafeinfo
And any visit to a museum wouldn't be complete without a stop at the gift store. The Nasher doesn't disapoint here either - I picked up a super cool purse and even a few Christmas gifts that were on sale.
Hours of the Nasher are as follows:
Monday – closed
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday – Noon to 5 p.m.
If you're in the Duke University area, check this place out!

During my visit last month to the Sarah Duke Gardens http://www.hr.duke.edu/dukegardens/index.html at the campus of Duke University, I was really amazed to still be able to see gorgeous plants and flowers in the middle of October! There are over 55 acres of gardens here - even a section that dedicated soley to the native plants of North Carolina. I can imagine this being a spectacular visit really any time of year - not just spring or summer - as their plantings change with the season.
The gardens are open daily 8am to dusk and some of the gardens are even available for weddings. This was just a wonderful way to spend a fall day and I highly recommend a visit if you are planning a tour of Duke University or the surrounding areas.
